  1. My wifes car is an '86 that I bought 3 years ago for $600, with 86,000 miles. It's a west coast car, so entirely rust free and in great shape. I've replaced the cvs, the timing belts, and had small things that you expect on 20 year old cars. Actually, you'd expect a lot more on other 20 year old cars, but this is a Sube. I wouldn't pay anywhere near that much for it. Privately you can do a lot better than that, and probably get some honest answers on what's been done to maintain the car. Mine's carbed, too, but for a new driver it's not a bad idea. It's easy to work on and not bad on gas. Look up the blue book on it and negotiate from there. ~Myles~ that's my 2 cents and worth every penny
  2. I got an '86 gl sedan and the wipers move great. I have two speeds plus intermittent.
  3. Some hardware stores and autopart stores carry healacoil kits. It comes with a drll bit, a healacoil, which looks like threads, and a tap. The healacoil will replace the threads that you had, bring it back to standard size and be stronger. It comes with directions. Make sure you have enough meat around the hole, so that you can drill it a little bigger. If you decide to drill it out and tap it, you might as well put a healacoil in anyhow, to make it that much stronger. Good luck that's my 2 cents and it's worth at least a penny

  5. That's an awesome setup suber styles had, but thieves would be all over that. I agree with general disorder about thieves looking up, that's why I'm going overhead. I'll try to get some pics up this weekend; if I can't I'll pm you. Who am I kidding, I'll pm you, for sure. I have to agree with virrdog on the amp. If you hook up your front speakers to your stereo and your rears to your amp, you'll have to turn your gain down so much on your amp to balance with your front speakers that you'll defeat the purpose of having an aux. amp. Is it a four channel amp or a two channel? How many watts, RMS, is your amp. and RMS watts, is your stereo? Big wheels they keep on churnin' and boy they give me a headache. ~Myles~ that's my 2 cents worth and it might be worth a buck
  6. I'm getting ready to install my amps, too, in my '88 wagon. My 4 channel going to be installed under the passenger seat. You have to put 1/4 to 1/2 inch spacers (made out of platic or wood) underneath each side of the amp, so the air can circulate under it. I screw the spacers to the amp and then put velcro under the spacers, to grab onto the carpet. That keeps your amp from moving around.(Use the hook part of the velcro) Plus if the carpet gets wet, your amp stays dry. My subwoofer amp is in an aluminum box, that I built. I built a plexiglass door for one end of the box and mounted two cpu chip fans, from radio shack, in it. The other end is open. I'm bolting the box to the ceiling in the aft end. That way it's up out of the way, so I can use the cargo area. Just got to bolt it in tight. I'm going to use either nut plates or nut clips. Oh, and for the wiring, I'm running a 4 gauge wire thru the firewall from an 80 amp fuse, in the engine compartment. The wire runs to the ashtray, in the back of the console, where I installed a double fuse splitter. The splitter takes it down to two 8 gauge wires; one for each amp. I was going to take pics and put them in the stereo section, but I'll never figure out how to get them up.   8. I don't have a carport or garage, but I do have a flat wide concrete patio. I've been looking at those yard canopies, by veriflex, called quick shades. They come in 12x12 and set up in seconds. You can also get a piece to enclose them with. I figure that I can set it up to stay out of the rain and then put it away, when I'm done. It's big enough to pull the front of the car in. It'll make a nice shade for summer barbecues, too. I think it'll cost me about $120., a lot cheaper than a garage. Now if I can just get a $120. together. ~Myles~ that's my 2 cents and it ain't worth a plug nickel
  9. Thanks a lot. There was a pinhole right at the thermostat housing, so I cut the bad section off and added a hose fitting and a new section with clamps. Works great.   10. Sounds like you've got a vacume leak. Use carberator cleaner and spray around the vacume hose fittings. If your leaking, the vacume hose will suck up the cleaner and the rpm will rise for a few seconds. Make sure you only do this when the engine is cool, when it warms up quit doing it. You may have moved a vacume hose and cracked it are something. You can also use the carb cleaner around your intake manifold, too. That's my 2 cents and it's worth a nickel. ~Myles~
  11. I got an '88 ea82t. The hose running from the thermostat housing to underneath the intake, is leaking at the thermostat housing. To get to the part underneath the intake, can I pull the throttle body, to get to the hose, or do I have to pull the intake? Please say I don't have to pull the intake. Please say this is a piece of cake. If you say I have to pull the intake, how much will be involved? I just replaced the pita turbo hoses. Now it's leaking up front! Thanks ~Myles~

  14. Bump! This is a good thread, so let's put it back up to the top. It should be added to the repair manual or something. I'd add a tire plug kit and a mini air compressor. You can plug the tire right there on the car and fill it back up or fill up your flat spare:banghead: Oh, also a pair of sidecutters and needlenose pliers to go with the tire repair kit. Now let's go on a roadtrip

  17. I'm with kdixey, rewire the speaker, but don't skimp on the wire. Use at least a 16 gauge or better 14. Most people use 16 unless they're running a power amp.
  18. Whoa How much do I have to take apart this time? Can the engine remain in the car or does it end up all over the driveway? Sounds like I've never done this before, huh? How many petrified rubber o-rings are we talking about, anyhow?
  19. Okay so, my 86 gl sedan, hydraulic lifters started tapping after I drove the car for a while, kinda off and on; now they're tapping continuously. Could that be from rubber o-rings?

  21. I got a rear hatch spoiler for my 88 gl wagon . Now all I have to do it, is get it mounted to the hatch. I tried aluminum threaded rib nuts, but the threads stripped out; they weren't strong enough. Then I tried going thru the back way, but the drill would come out on a radius; so that's out. The holes I have, on the hatch now, are drilled to 1/4", for the rib nuts. So, how do you guys get those cool looking spoilers to stay on there, anyhow? Help! Thanks ~Myles~

  23. Run two new power wires from your fusebox; use a 12volt testlight. You can buy the fuse adaptors at any autoparts store that will allow you hook up your two new power leads to your stereo. One of your power leads will be constant power for your stereo memory; the other new lead will be on ignition or accessory. Use the 12 volt testlight (available at autoparts store) to find the fuse that's constant power and the one that's on ignition. Let me know if you have any questions. I'm pretty good at hooking up stereos. It's easier to do it this way than trying to trace someone elses mess. Just cap em off. ~Myles~
