  1. Yeah i am on the south end of the island... about 10 minutes from the ferry depending on whos drivin. Thanks to GeneralDisaster i already have a post by Edrach about how to do it. Reading a lot of the stuff is like reading spanish to me though, i know enough to get around but not enough to do it by myself. Thanks a lot for the offer, eventually i may just take you up on it:grin: . I still need to do some other stuff before im ready though. Thanks a million you guys really rock. EDIT: buahahahaha u r edrach lol i didnt notice that.... hahahaha
  2. lol hahahahaha... hell for $20 and a 6-pack of beer ill attempt to sew you one badarss flag . maybe tell my mom its for school and she'll make one. Hey speakin of flags, do you guys think it would be cool if i got a big CB antenna and attached some kinda flag? i was thinkin a pirate flag maybe or i dunno im sure i could find somthin cool?
  3. okay thanks guys for givin me a rough estimate. Will the book:"How To Keep Your 72-84 Subaru Alive by Larry Owens" go over how to do this? I just ordered an old used copy for like $10 off ebay because i heard they are incredibly useful. Im gonna need to learn to do all this stuff sometime.
  4. yeah i have a feeling ill have to do a lil customization... but ive moved seats before and i could always chop em down and remount the brackets thats no biggie. Itd be worth it. I love the look of the ea-81s with a lift. I with BYB made bigger then a 3 cause i would certainly love to buy a 4 or maybe 5. I wouldnt know where to begin on a custom job so nah. But yeah i agree if i saw this car i would definately give it a good double take.
  5. oh was it only the wagons with ea-82s? hmm so since im gettin a hatch now i could get a hatch all the way up till then and stil have an ea-81?
  6. yeah i was the same way 2 days ago so no worries. EA-81 is the earlier model 80ies from 80-84 i believe and after that it was ea-82 till like 88 i think?? i dunno. from what i hear the ea-81 is better for offroading because it is less maintanence and much easier to fix. The ea-82 has a problem breaking heads on it which is easy to repair but they leak a lot too and some other stuff... The ea-82s were more powerful though. hehe thats what i know from like the last week of research
  7. oh that brings me to another question.... im like 6'6"... am i gonna have any problems drivin an 82 hatch? If so how easy is it to move the seat brackets... The person sittin behind me will have ahell of a job fittin but o well cheers:drunk:
  8. i think all around a soob is way more badass lookin then say a lifted f-350 or some such. And all those new trucks or jeeps or whatever are all big and shiney and pretty; i bet their drivers wouldnt even dare to take em offroad because of the looks... especially not the places ive seen some soobs goin. Well keep the good things comin guys i wanna hear more cool stuff i can point out to friends when i drive up to school next year.
  9. oh i know thats one of the things im lookin forward to most is learnin to work on one of these. I found one of those "a billion things to do to keep your old soob running" or whatever its called (lol) for like 8 bucks on ebay the other day so that should come soon. I wanna learn it all and know how to beef it up and repair etc. All the new cars these days are impossible to learn to work on. Its all crammed in and the only way to get repairs is pay some jackass in a shop $400 to plug in a little computer and then hit that secret button that turns the warnings off. I just think the customizability of these cars is so cool.
  10. oh im gettin a soob... i agree on the ea-81 thing those cars are so rad i love the looks especially lifted. A lot of the reasons you guys said are what i was thinkin too. I just want to know your guys input is all. Thanks
  11. okay i know this is an incredibly rediculous silly question. Dont even read passed here if you get angry easily. if you feel the need to flame me have at it, just do it in your head and dont waste electrons. Sorry if i have been askin a lot of silly questions lately i just wanna completely research this car before i go droppin a few grand into buildin a offroad mobile. Okay so the stupid question of the year is why a soob? Why not an older model jeep or truck or something like that? I have about a million reasons i can think of but i want to hear your guys thoughts. cheers
  12. ah i see thanks. So the 4 would have to be a custom extra inch?
  13. Ive heard old soobs eat em up like candy. I was just wonderin about how long u guys take to change em? Garage time and on trail time? Just a curiosity question seein what ill be shootin for. Thanks
  14. i hear people saying they have a 4/3 ozzified lift. The only ozzified lift ive heard of it 3" what the 4/ for? Is a huge lift required to do most of the stuff or will a 3" with like 27" tires be sufficient? Thanks
  15. yeah i was planning on puttin a rack on anyways so i think i might go with a hatch instead. Thanks for the input. Anyone else?
  16. heh id have to agree... even though i know nothing about offroadin yet or about the east coast at all. I have absolultely no experience in this and i can name like a million places to go offroadin around here. I love it
  17. Im lookin into getting an 82-84 GL with an ea-81 non turbo for offroadin purposes. What are the pros/cons of gettin a wagon or a hatch? Besides the obvious room factor is there any other bad side to a hatchback? They both have all the same options right? Im puttin a 3" lift and 27" tires etc etc onto it. I like the looks of the hatches a lot more when lifted and whatnot. Just wondering your opinions?
  18. i dont really know you but you gave me some good advice. Keep you rump roast outta danger cause ill be needin a lot more help on my soon to be project.
  19. This has probably been posted before but im new so i figured i may start a new one. Over the last couple days i have become totally obsessed with these cars. While im at school im thinking of them and when im home im researching them. My new thread is because i want to see some of your guys sites as well as any good sites you know of that have lots of older subaru offroad style stuff. From movies to classifieds to maps of cool places to go. Whatever you think is a cool site. I dont really know of any yet so i cant start the thread but feel free someone to get it going.
  20. ooo nice i like the look of that blue 3 door. Do you do the lift too? how much would a lift like that cost? I like that rack and bumper a lot too. How much is all that? Mind you it still may be a little while before im ready for all of this, but until then ill keep you guys in my mind. Thanks
  21. sooo i have most of what i want worked out. Next thing i need to know is what kind of tires should i get for offroading? I was thinkin maybe some 26" tires to go with the 3 inch BYB lift? where should i go to get these? And then what kind of wheels? I hear 15" pugs maybe? any other big suggestions?
  22. Yeah the movies you have a pretty cool lookin too.. itd be cool to see some more. I have access to a welder and am pretty good with one but wouldnt trust myself enough to do a job like this i dont think. Im pretty sure though that i could find someone to help me out. haha i saw your friends skid plate and it looks pretty beefy. I need to find someone to make one or teach me to make one when i get my car. Looks like it would come in handy. Thanks for the stuff about axle changing too looks pretty detailed i shouldnt have to much trouble now. Thanks again and i think im goin to bed so i dont know that youll hear from me again if you post tonight.
  23. haha man looks like i got some learning to do. Okay 2 questions and both may sound very stupid but ignore my ignorance and pretend you are teachin a 5 year old. Im only 15 and am still VERY new to this as i have said before. So the first is what all would i need to go about changing an axle? The 2nd is how would i go about getting the welded rear differential? (ive heard many people speak highly so it sounds like a good idea) Oh and one more haha sorry i have 3. Where could i find a custom skid plate like that one you have on yours? I am watching movies on atlas4x4... looks like one helluva good time man. Thanks again and again
  24. jeeez i still have so much to learn haha. Half that stuff didnt make a whole lotta sense although i see i need an 82-84 and sounds like 82 is the best plan so ill look for one of those i guess. Thats a lotta spare stuff. The tires i can manage but all the axles and whatnot... where do i get all that stuff? I need to find a guide somewhere all nice and neatly laid out that tells me what to do but i guess where would be the fun in that . And as far as being willing.... i am so much more then willing to learn all i need to know. I think this stuff is so sweet i wish i could learn it all tonight. Enogh of the silly rice burners tryin to go 185 on the freeway, i say bring on the offroad. Just need someone to teach me thanks for the input
