Tell me your rally setup
TheMeatWagon replied to TheMeatWagon's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Yeah i noticed that in the last rallycross results how much the brats dominate. They really are excellent car/truck's. I always hear people trash talking the Justys... whats that all about. Just cause theyre missing a cylinder... I believe you though that they rip up rallying... i can totally picture one of those ripping up track. Thanks -
'83 and '84 Turbo Auto to Stick Conversion
TheMeatWagon replied to a topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
FT4WD stands for full time all wheel drive correct? So if i find a complete good condition tranny from an 87-89 rx and take everything out of it and then took a couple DOJ joints from a turbo legacy plus the other stuff on that list of new stuff i need then i can have a 5 spd ft4wd d/r tranny in the car right? Im looking to make this a rally type car so would it be more practical to have the d/r or go with the LSD in the XT6 Tranny? Thanks for the help Cheers:drunk: -
So im sittin here and im bored out of my mind... got to thinkin about rallying. I always hear about everyones offroading experiences but apart from rallycross results i dont hear a whole lot about rallying. Any info at all would be cool... favorites places to go, maybe some vids or pics etc etc. And most importantly i would like ideas on what to put on. Tell me your setups what do you use. What kind of lights? Lift or no? tires? wheels? engine mods? other mods? etc etc etc just anything about rallying. Thanks in advanced Cheers:drunk:

TheMeatWagon replied to a topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
AHHHH this is perfect. Okay so im sitting here and its like 2:30 in the morning and i am having severe medical probs with my eye and cant sleep. So i just happen to be scanning old posts and find this. this is EXACTLY what i have been searching for for oh so long. Anyone else who is thinking about this it should help. Oh and Turbone i remember you and GD talking about the correct terms... well heres where you probably heard em. It brings up a couple questions though... anyone know how hard it will be to put in the clutch pedal? And if is it possible and practical to add fulltime awd and d/r?? ahh this makes me happy Cheers:drunk: -

I found this post... just thought it would be cool to show everyone if they havent seen it. Anyways Cheers

TheMeatWagon replied to TheMeatWagon's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...

Wow man talk about your dedication. Welcome to the board. Im sure youll find absolutely most everything you need here. Sorry about your parents. And same id love to see pics if you got em. Cheers:drunk:

One more question, tranny cost?
TheMeatWagon replied to TheMeatWagon's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
haha yeah thats what i figured is that i could always go to board members to find good deals and exactly what i need. Tranny price sounds fine, i should have plenty enough. The yard ill probably check first is one up in anacortes in washington. Anyone have first hand experience with this place? it was recommended by Turbone, probably because im like 45 minutes away. How are prices? Thanks a mil Cheers:drunk: Edit: haha see there comes turbone to the rescue again. When i get your car ill probably ask for that map or directions or even just a phone number if you got it. -
Okay so this should be one of my last questions regaurding the tranny conversion, at least until i get started (after that ill have hundreds im sure). Okay so im putting an ea-82 5spd into an ea-81 that currently has a 3spd auto. My question is roughly (and i mean totally roughly) how much will a tranny out of a yard cost, which includes all the other stuff i need. Im pretty sure ive got enough and if not ill work up. Oh and also is it going to be a lot of extra work to put a d/r in it? will i even need a d/r? Its currently a pushbutton 4wd.Thanks Cheers:drunk: (sorry if im gettin old haha i just like to be informed )

Ah im going through the same thing with the tranny conversion only im doin an ea-82 5 spd into an ea-81 3 at. From what i hear its not to difficult if youve got the tools and the USMB. If you find anything useful would you mind lettin me know? As far as ground clearance i think Calebz is right, pugs and a little bit bigger tires if you only need a few inchs. Goodluck Cheers:drunk:

Problems up the ying yang
TheMeatWagon replied to redrum3433's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I dont think GD is that angry, but just a little peeved at all the false info bein posted. Ive read around and saw a few other places people posted and i realize that most people share the knowledge they have and hope to be helpful, even though sometimes it is completely off. Im sure for somone who is an expert such as himself it may get kind of tiring so dont give him a hard time, besides if he wasnt around most of you would be royally effed so lay off his back. -
Want some opinion.

And it is people like you... mr. GD... that keep the legacy of old subarus around. I sure as hell know that i wouldnt have ever been inspired to buy an old soob if i hadnt stumble upon this board looking for new STI's. If there was no one around to teach me what im gonna need to know then there is no reason for me to buy one and try to mess around with it. Cheers:drunk: -

Ah well im still a newb and i feel kinda dumb asking some questions. I think people say it just to let people know they are starting out and not to freak on em. Anyone whos been here even a couple days though figures out pretty quick that everyone here is really rad and they arent gonna be a-holes to you like some other message boards. (cough cough honda hahrmmmf) Any newbs reading this though remember that. Dont be afraid to ask any dumb questions... ive asked about a thousand and i dont think anyone here hates me to bad just yet. Better to learn the answer from a pro here then to try and BS it yourself. Cheers:drunk: -
Thinkin the worst right now!
TheMeatWagon replied to mickytrus's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Ah could be. My brothers girlfriends camry had a split hose and it was spewing anitfreeze all over under her hood and it was billowing smoke. It sounds exactly like the kind of smoke your talking about too. I dont know much so thats just my 2 cents. Cheers and goodluck -
Help With My New Subaru
TheMeatWagon replied to mase18's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
haha they can still be fun cars though. Dont buy a soob if you want a rocket on the paved but for dirt tracks or climbin rocks they are king for their price. Did you see the latest rallycross info? An ea82 was holdin his and barely got 2nd to a WRX. Not to mention the fact that you cant work on a WRX or most any new car for that matter without a fair bit of experience. You can come to the board and ask a question about how to do something and have an answer in a couple minutes. Welcome to the board. -
How much is a Dual Range Worth?
TheMeatWagon replied to sandman's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Im pretty sure i heard no GL-10s came with a manual tranny they were all autos. My first project whenever i finally get Turbones 84 coupe is to drop an ea-82 5 sp d/r in it. Should be fun seeing as how im 16 and havent really dont a lot with em yet. But if got the tools and ive got the will so i might as well eh? -
He wants $100...what would YOU do?
TheMeatWagon replied to Scoobywagon's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Yeah id agree. Even if they never run you could part em out till you had your $100 back and then just do with them as you please. Im sure theres a fair bit on there worth keeping. -
