  1. You are convinced that this is the axle(s) hey? To be honest I don't think that I would attempt that myself without supervision. Unfortunately, my normal "support group" is a bunch of "muscle car"/truck guys. They are, shall we say, less than enthusiastic about delving into "Outback territory". I did convince one friend (who rebuilds trannys for a living) to take a quick look at it after work...so... I may have a better idea what's up, by tonight.
  2. I don't have any drifting or pulling while braking (just a "warped rotor pulse") As I think I mentioned before, I may have more than one issue going on-but I am leaning towards the motor mount(s) being the main problem at this point. Mount(s) seem to make sense to (ignorant) me... -The loud clunks I heard at the start of all this, was maybe the breakage of mount(s). -More subtle(than initial clunks) tunk, tunking while under load. -Pulling during acceleration, and during shifts. -And (maybe didn't mention before) vibration at idle.
  3. Not a pic., but... anyone see the WRX STI racing a dirtbike on TopGear the other day?? Pretty impressive! It's about 13 mins. into this video- Enjoy! http://www.history.com/shows/top-gear/videos#top-gear-2-hollywood-cars
  4. Front diff. fluid is at the same level as when I bought the car 14,000 miles ago, it is slightly over the full mark- just touching the "F" in full. I do see a small amount of "seepage" where the right axle goes into the trans. But no leaks big enough to drip.
  5. Still dealing with this issue... I have a new idea... engine mounts... Anyone have an opinion on this??? If this is my problem... good places to purchase them??? Do they need to be new? or is used OK?
  6. No comments on "The entertainer" by Scott Joplin?? Hardly an appropriate soundtrack... No- on second thought, I guess it was "entertaining" in a disturbing sort of way...
  7. You did (some of the) the "power tour"? I'm jealous-that's one of my top goals in life... (but in a 68 Chevy Van) and, to see the big trees- then I can die...
  8. ...This reminds me of the 80 Cutlass I bought for $25. right out of high school...Couldn't open the driver door, brakes were bad- but, Ah, yeah....memories.... #1 Keep oil in it...someone elses used oil is better than none. #2 Popping/jolting... Are all of your tires the same size? Are fronts more bald than backs? vice/versa? You would be suprised how this will affect an AWD... even if they are the same size/make. Move one front tire to the back- Have one bald tire, and one w/tread, on the front... and one bald, and one w/tread on the back... This kept my (non Soob) AWD on the road another 6 months. I couldn't believe it, but it's true... Keep the front ratio same as the back. No matter how "wrong" they may be... Good luck! -K
  9. Thank You again, to "1 Lucky Texan"- I wasn't able to get back on here for a while...(wow it looks different) I haven't -smelled the smell- since "the spouse" used my car to deliver pizzas. The other symptoms are getting worse/more noticable though...I'm hearing the tunk tunking at lower speeds, and I now feel pulling at every shift (change of RPM). I haven't been under the car for a week or two- but, didn't see any residue that would have led me to a clue as to leakage...
  10. H-6 FSM........ Got this from someone here... http://phantomotaku.com/SVX/011822-MSA5P0631C.pdf Did mine w/o proper torque- so far so good...
  11. #1 (Wifes' car)...I am no Subaru (or any car) expert, but... Had 3 GM's do a similar thing recently... selenoid in the tranny. ($30.part+filter,gasket,fluid) Has to do with the torque converter lock up- that's all I know. Seems to fit your symptoms... Really closely (too close for comfort to be anything else, in my opinion)... For what it's worth...
  12. Yes, You may ask... The previous owner installed them in Oct.2009 w/103,827 miles on the clock... He was a traveling salesman- they were installed in Alabama... He and I, both live in Wisconsin- within 20 miles of each other... I know enough to research my purchases-(care about my car) apparently he did not...
  13. Wow...No one watched this, or likes vintage car/americana footage??? So sad...
  14. Hmmm, Perhaps ROOWHO could provide us with some updated images!!!???
  15. Gosh Darn! I wanted to be the first one to wish Tom a Happy 21st Birthday!!! Hope you had a great one brother! And didn't do anything I wouldn't do... hehehe Please contact me- I want to return your items to you... -K
  16. Thank You to "I Lucky Texan"!! What car does your Wife drive? Stuff you say makes sense to me... (Correct or not) All of this started when Spouse used the car for pizza deliveries... (Of course... all was fine...) I cannot say what may have occured... Does this diagnosis depend on a visible leak of gear lube? I will continue to monitor levels- but see no "visual evidence" at this time... I do know, that both front CV axles are Napa aftermarket replacements, which no-one on here likes...
  17. Yes Brother!!! Love Ya!!!

  18. Never done this before, don't really know how-

  19. Wow! OK I just came back here- sent a couple emails in the process... <3 -K

  20. You know, it feels like something has "popped out" but I checked all fluids/boots a week or 2 ago, boots were dry, fluids OK. As I recall, diff oil was a little overfull when I bought it, and is now (as of 2 weeks ago)... Pardon my ignorance, WTF is a "differential stub"??? I will go check anything right now, if it will help me finger this out... Thanks!
