how do ya "re-center" a steering wheel?
snowstormer replied to snowstormer's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
man i hate to sound like an idiot but how do you get the steering wheel off? its about 1/2 a turn off so i would like to fix it as the turn signals do not work correctly. do you need a puller? is it bolted on under the horn pad? do you just pull the horn pad off? last steering wheel i removed was on a 63 chev 20 years ago... thanks. -
hello out there in suby land. i put a lift kit in a [ea82] 1987 gl wagon a while back but never got around to "centering" the steering wheel again, if you know what i mean. anyone know how to do this without disconnecting the ujoints on the steering shaft? do you take off the steering wheel? how? thanks for any info.

i just put a set on my wifes 91 4wd loyale. got them for $50 each including mounting and balancing at the local cooper dealer.she has only put about 300 miles on them. i have heard from a few local people that they are excellent in the snow. we got about 3" 2 days ago, wet and slushy, and they seemed ok, although 3" is not enough to tell, you need a least a foot to tell if a tire is any good! i have no idea how long they hold up treadwise, but for $50 each i figured i would give them a shot.

cooper tire makes a 185/80/r13. they have a snow tire that is fairly aggresive. i think it is called the weathermaster st or something like that. i think the website is http://www.coopertire.com

Heater not working right
snowstormer replied to vodoobrat's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i had the exact same problem on my 87 gl on saturday. i had put a lift kit in it about a month ago and have not driven it much since then. went to turn on the defrost, but air only blew out the vents no matter what button was pushed. subuluvr is prob right, sounds like vacumn.[sp?]. there is a line that runs from the motor to a funny round contraption sort of thing [heater control unit?] mounted on the passenger side of the firewall kinda in the corner. check that line for breaks, cracks, etc or hopefully just unplugged. mine came disconnected when i dropped the motor putting in the lift kit. or the heater control unit? thingy could be bad. hopefully not anything under the dash. -
i went with 180 deg thermostats in all my cars. most had 195's in them when i got them. with 195's the temp gauge was in the middle of the gauge, too hot for me. with 180's the temp gauge never goes above the bottom 1/4 of the gauge, even in the summer when it gets in the 80's. plus you still have plenty of heat in the winter. your car will not overheat or run too hot with a 180, AS LONG AS YOUR RADIATOR IS WORKING CORRECTLY. not clogged, etc. [not shouting], just saying the radiator is the deciding factor on overheating in my opinion. just ask edrach.

i heard you may be manufacturing a front brushguard of some sort. i have an 87 ea82 gl wagon i would like to put one on. do you have pics and prices yet or any info? my zip is 55806 for shipping. thank you for any info.

i ordered them online, then they called and said they had 3 in louisiana [sp?]. now they say they are backordered until the end of october. do you think they are full of it? am i wasting my time? do kuhmo 14" mudders exist?
-
thanks for the reply, subafly. my console is grey. now that i know it is just the console, i will take it off and monkey with it after work today. i will try to trim it or leave it off. what kind of tires are you running, subafly? hey northguy, go for the lift, should come in handy when the big snows come this winter.
-
how ya doin northguy? i got the 3" byb/ozzified lift from pkdavis. took me about 16 hours total to install. it was a pain to do by yourself, as you have to crow bar things around a bit... but IT IS WORTH IT!! THE LIFT LOOKS COOL! cant wait to get tires. i wish i could post pictures, but have no camera or ability.
-
got my lift kit in a 87 gl wagon with 5spd dual range. looks great even with the stock rubber. any hints on the shifter? a little tight going into 3rd and 5th. waiting for kuhmos to come in from tirerack for my pugs. do the mudders from tirerack exist, or are they pulling my leg when they say they are available? lifted soobs look cool.
-
ok. thanks for the reply qman. gives me another option if the kuhmo mud terrains fall through.
-
on the intercotire website, there are some LT225/85R14 tires available. 6.6" width and 28.7" overall diameter. the tire is a tsl/radial. do you think these will fit on an ea82 wagon with 14" pugs and a 3" byb lift? any fender trimming required? they look like they have some decent tread. anyone ever tried these?
-
thanks for the replys. i want to run the same size tires you have, mcbrat. i saw them on your brat, they look awesome! i have a set ordered from tirerack.com. they have some kuhmo [sp?] 27x8.50x14 mud terrains they say they can get. [i hope] fingers crossed... as you guys surely know, tire selection is kinda limited in this size. i want to go beefier than all terrains if possible.

all of my wheels are the same diameter. [14 inches]. 3 of my wheels are 6 inches wide. one of them is 5-1/2 inches wide. would running one slightly narrower wheel on a car make any difference? handling wise, etc.
-
well, i got a full set of nice steel pugs, i says to myself while cleaning and painting them. then upon closer inspection i notice one of them is a little narrower than the rest. #@!%^& junkyard. does anyone have an opinion? can i run 3- 6 inch wide wheels and 1- 51/2 inch wide wheel if they all have the same size tires, or should i prolong my search for one more 6- inch wheel. these things are kinda hard to find. thanks for any input.

has anyone ever used synthetic [quaker state] automatic trans fluid in a 3at subaru transmission? any reason not to? any comments? is it worth the extra cost?

will these peugot wheels fit??
snowstormer replied to snowstormer's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
ok thanks alot mcbrat and calbez. i will soon join the ranks of lifted soobs. -
i just want to double check before i buy... steel wheels from a 1985 peugot 505. 14'' x 6. will these fit on a ea82 wagon? what about lug nuts? and is pk davis best or only place to get lift kit for ea82? thanks... just want to be sure before i get them shipped to me.

the droolage is running down my face. finding a western car without traveling is a score in my book. -
sounds good junkie and qman. just wanted to make sure i could drive it down the hiway to work every now and then.[50 miles one way]. im gonna go with the pk davis lift. i want to put the lift on my clean arizona gl that i swapped a 5spd dual range into. just have to save up a few more dollars. hopefully before winter hits i will join the ranks of lifted subes! hey miles, when i need something fixed on my rusty wisconsin beater, you are the man!
-
