2003 OB with head gasket prob?
scoobyclimbs replied to r3227's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXGet the cooling system pressure tested for leaks .Then get a chemical test for the headgasket if needed. Headgaskets usually leak internally into the combustion chamber (so when a chemical test is done the color of the chemical turns a different color when exhaust gases are present).

alittle spring snow!
I don't think so ....only 8"(lifted I have almost 10" of clearance) I was breakin trail in foot deep! Too boot it was wet snow too! A year ago I broke trail in a foot and half of powder stock!

alittle spring snow!
I'm working on the lift one thing at a time ......besides a bigger lift will only let me get stuck in deeper snow . It's like hot rodding yea a mouse motor is great but a rat motor.....and so on.......it never ends ! I like pushing the envelope with what I have to work with, it's more challenging.

alittle spring snow!
Saturday I went up to Mt.Hood FS RD.4220 (aka Old Skyline rd) + a few spur rds and a gravel pit off HWY46. Yep, I got stuck a couple of times but dug out in five! The snow was soft, wet about a foot deep . I was pushing the limits of my 2" lift with street tires/chains(I did break one chain at the left rear) I had a blast all day! I can't wait to get some mud tires!

Serious Question, Why do dealers charge so much for service?
quit whining ! go somewhere else. As a mechanic myself and 99% of all shops we buy our own tools!!! I've invested $30,000........and years of training....so give the mechanics a break! Yea I'm picky about my tools a craftsman tool just don't cut it vs a Snap-on or Mac, Matco.....The dealer is there to make money and mechanics are an expense to them. We don't make $75-100 an hour. The dealer gets all the profits. But unless you own business you really can't understand the cost of doing business . The dealer only charges what the market will bear. Get a Haynes manual or cd rom, go to school and learn.......buy some tools! quit whining!

2003 Outback is also a PIECE of JUNK!!!
scoobyclimbs replied to rem14's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI love my '03 outback only problems so far have been a rheostat(heater fan )resistor failure. Also a TCU problem with the 4eat(reprogrammed no problems). I have almost 25,000miles on mine and drive the piss out of it on offroad. It is a tank! I have modded the hell out of mine. I'll keep my outback for ten years or better.

Who's Who Two (Roll call for lifted rigs)

Who's Who Two (Roll call for lifted rigs)
I'm fully lifted now! I finished last night. almost 2" clearance at front and rear. Now I just need some offroad wheels / tires. I'll post pics soon.........

Who's Who Two (Roll call for lifted rigs)
I'm half way there! I just lifted the back of my '03 outback wagon! I'll have to finish the front soon. Before 7 7/8" at factory rear diff. guard, after 9 3/4" . I used Kings Springs KSRR-29's rear , KSFR-32 up front. The King springs are about 25% stiffer and yellow in color (beefy springs!) Took about 40min r/r the rear. So for now I have a raked look , but It drives great (tight). I will do the frotns tommorrow and get an alignment as well . The search will continue for tires/wheels.

Harsh downshift 4eat 2000 Outback
scoobyclimbs replied to smurffjet's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXdo you have a CEL? I just had my'03 outback in for service and had the TCU reprogrammed shifts much better now .Mine shifted really hard in every gear .I hated the backlash feel .......nerve racking. give you dealer a call.

How to remove crank pulley
scoobyclimbs replied to ndu's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI used two large bolts to stick in the holes(not threaded) and a prybar . then wedged between the two and rocked back and forth changing locations . it took me about 15min then it finally walked out. This was on an '03 outback ! I then dressed the shaft with emery cloth and a touch of anti seize.

Converted to the Subaru! poll
I was a longtime Chevy man until 2003 and sold my S-10pu and got an '03 outback wagon .I will never look back again.........Although I still love mouse/rat motors! My subie takes me where I wanna go...! Now I'm hell bent on modding my outback for offroad!
