  1. I guess when I get to NC I'll have to start checking out all the great places there!
  2. Okay. I am about ready to install that IC. I noticed that there is a short hose that goes to the bottom of the factory "intercooler" and connects to the thermostat and temp sensor unit. So my question is, what does that hose do, and do I need to connect it to the IC somehow? Thanks!
  3. Cool. I do have a pic. I'll attach it here. Glad to see someone else from this town is on the board! Edit: Changed the attached pic for a more recent one
  4. Hey, that would be really cool. I'll pm you with my addy. Thank!
  5. Thanks! Glad to hear from someone out there. You know, I was wondering if I could get someone to send me one of those apartment catalogs for Chapel Hill. Anyway one of you guys could get a hold of one without having to go to Chapel Hill?
  6. Oh it's not that stuff got in, because, yes, you did tape it up . I just figured since it was used it's probably got a little bit of deposits inside it. I haven't installed it yet though. I will let you know when I do however. Thanks!
  7. That probably true, but I still need the harness for the sub/amp, which plugs into the stereo harness. There's got to be somebody out there with one.
  8. Well, that's easy enough . I'll do it. Thanks!
  9. I was just wondering: Just got an IC (from Mr. 88 here ) and wanted to clean the inside of it before using. Any solutions that would be recommended for this job?
  10. So I don't suppose anyone out there has a factory sub/amp harness out of an Impreza? I would gladly buy it, but still haven't had any luck finding it.
  11. Glad you liked my site . But I'd still like to figure out what those things above mean .
  12. Okay, so I am guessing that OHV = overhead valve? ...and OHC = overhead, what, camshaft? I'm just guessing here so it might be completely wrong ha ha! So my other question then is, how do I identify which one I've got? ...yes yes, I know I'm a novice .
  13. Hey guys, I just had a silly n00b question. (I realize it really must seem silly to all of you) But I can't figure out what the EA81 and EA82, etc. stands for. I realize it has to do with the engine ID? But what exactly does it all mean?! ...wah...me..to.much.n00b...
  14. I do not mean to insult anyone with the following comment, but it is just something which occurred to me. I have heard often times that the younger generations disagrees with the older generations when it comes to auto maintenance. Generally on things such as coolant to water ratios, oil weights to use, etc. It is obvious to me that there are different schools of thought on this. One is maintained by the older generation, and one that is brought forth by the current one. It is the age old argument between the "tried and true" versus the "new and improved." I am not taking sides here , just thought I'd make this point is all .
  15. Any particular reason why a thermostat from the local auto parts store is of lesser quality?
  16. Ha ha. That's pretty silly. Well, I knew that it wasn't actually getting hot like that, cause if it were, the engine would have been toast many times already. That's a pretty quirky thing on those. Glad to have some clarification for this though. Thanks a lot!
  17. I had a related question to "overheating." My temp gauge goes high when I turn on any air accessories. This includes both hot and cold (though hot makes it go up all the way!) and is not dependent on where the air is blowing out of (heat, vents, windshield). Why would the temp gauge go up during this? It's pretty weird as, from my understanding, the temp should go down when you blow out hot air. Is the gauge going crazy? Thanks in advance! Mentis
  18. I would also like to see this thing take off. I think that having a good balance of focus would be an asset to the magazine. As mentioned previously, this balance should be one of subject matter (tech and otherwise) as well as a balance of generations.
  19. Hey, this is cool! So is this the official status thread then? I'd like to keep track of this until the film comes out.
  20. It's funny. I never realized that fram was no good until I read this post. And I've always used fram for the other cars I've owned, which were (1) a '70 Buick LeSabre, and (2) a '77 Dodge Colt (with 55000 miles!!!). I got rid of the Buick about a year ago and got me my Sube (wife still owns the Colt). So, the things that's supposed to be funny here, is that since I got my Sube, I haven't used fram filters because every time I've gone in they didn't have any. I've always had to get the Pennzoil brand. Don't know if those are any good either, but now that I know, I'll go get the better ones. So, anyway, that's my little ironic story.
  21. I see. I guess it just occured to me that since a number of posts seemed to indicate this as a sign that it was usually like that. Especially if the coolant is pushed out of the rad until rad's empty. But thanks for clarifying that. I assumed since my sub didn't push up the coolant when hot that it was an indicator of only one cause. Thanks!
  22. Wish I would have seen this thread sooner. The moment you mentioned that the overflow tank itself was overflowing when it got hot is when I figured it was your headgasket. Pretty much anytime you have coolant being pushed up it's the headgasket. Sorry that I'm too late .
  23. Cool. Well, we'll just have to figure things out. Don't know exactly how yet, but we'll have to. I don't have any contacts ther yet, so we're kind of going into the blue. It'll be an adventure .
  24. My wife and I are both artists, so that's why we're going for Chapel Hill. It's apparently a good place for that, what with UNC being there and all . How far are the mountains from chapel hill though? I don't suppose you know of a good online map for NC, one that shows the mountains? I'd be curious to know, as I am a skiier and hiker too.
  25. First thing I did is the check for a harness at the local dealer. They sent me to a company called "Automotive Dealer Services" where their audio guy tried to order a harness for me. Unfortunately, he said they had been discontinued. So I went here. I found a harness at www.subaruparts.com, but they want liek $75 for it. I found a stereo harness at a local junkyard finally, and on Monday I'm going back to take the seat out of the WRX to see if there's a sub harness there too. Now I just need to figure out how to hook up that good stuff. But if there's not sub/amp harness at the JY, then I'm not sure. Maybe someone around here wants to sell one (one can hope?).
