  1. i have 2000 2.5RS with a/c system removed both rad fans start working when engine is just warm but not hot. even now in cold weather and driving on hwy they spin all the time what could be wrong? thanks in advance for any input
  2. funny i got a few pms in regards of this matter. so, this is how it was done: made a hub out of an old GL wheel, cut out the center of an STi wheel, clamped them together, drilled 4 holes and then just bolted them together. took me a few hours though =o) before i had momo wheel installed but wanted to put it in my 01rs so i couldn't leave '86gl without any steering wheel =o) u can fit pretty much any wheel to any car. it just takes two of them and one has to be original here is how it looked before for the seats i had to customize the rails

  5. it only does that with the vacuum advance line connected so, how do i bypass the valve? thanks
  6. i shoot lots of vids and a few pix here're couple of them recognize those guys? oh, and of course i was the only one wearing SUBARU cap=o)
  7. yeh, it could be around 2000 or just a bit over i was watching the mark more than rpm's =o) but it definitively jumps up i had a timing light borrowed for one day only. (don't want to buy one since i'm planning swapping the engine later anyways) i'm gonna look closely into it when get back in a week. going to monte-carlo next week to spectate first round of world rally championship!!! =o)
  8. due to the sluggish performance (22sec 0-60) did some timing checking on my '86 hatchback initial was 7 (corrected it to 8 which is not a big deal) it climbs steadily with rpm increasing 9,10...20 but then all of a sudden when it passes aprox 2500 it jumps to what it would be 40 degrees (aprox. since there're no marks) once again from 20 to 40 big jump once it goes over 2500 vacuum hose connected any thoughts? thanks in advance! EDITED finally bought timing light today =o) it only does the timing advance jump from 20 to 40 degrees only when i connect vacuum line so, how do i bypass vacuum advance valve? thanks
  9. i've got the same problem with my 86 hatch launched it a few times 0-60 yesterday and all i get is 22 sec in average i wonder how does Your car performs? and was going to buy timing light today anyway (it's not that expencive - $40-50) and play with it

  11. i'd definitely pick up one of those if available in my city! but i'm sure you can try to sell them on ebay You won't loose anything if you go "by order"
  12. i don't know if there's a direct fit but i'm sure one can make any seat fit as long as it's not overly wide for this seat swap i had to manufacture base and weld it to the new seats and then just bolted sliders to it. once i was driving my daughter's acura rsx and i though " man, these are the most comfortable seats"! and i was gonna buy those and make them fit. but decided to stick to OEM Subaru's parts so, why don't You just unbolt one of Your seats (it'll take couple of minutes anyway) and try what ever You like and go from there but i'd recommend to go with seats as newer as possible. BECAUSE IT'S YOUR back and butt man!

I swapped my old seats on 86 GL hatch with newer (i think 04 wrx) seats which i find the most comfortable, even better than sti ones (i like them for removable headrests) bought them from wrecker for $180 and actually bought both passenger's side because they are usually in much better shape spent couple of days making bases and fitting the rails but quite satisfied with the results. can't wait for the next rally oh eah, and while on it i also made a hub from my old steering wheel and bolted Momo on it =o)
  14. thanks for the usefull info. but my initial thought was not to take parts from a few cars and try them to fit but rather take a donor's car body and throw it away leaving two subframes complete with engine, transmission, axles, wiring etc. on the ground and put my stripped car body on a top of it (sort of =o))) i realize of course that donor car will have a wider body ond i got to widen my e81 i've been working on cars for a looong time and no stranger to fabrications and modifications just want to avoid hassles trying to fit parts from a few different cars now i already said i admire Your work =o) Your patience and deducation amazes me. i myself was looking for 25 y.o. impreza or audi quattro for almost two years and the car i was looking for had to be in really good shape. and as soon as i saw one on craigslist i was the first there early in the morning with cash in hand. and what do ya know - week later '84 quattro side damaged poped up at the insurance company auction. i bid on it of course but was overbid (it was a closed auction)- she went for $3800
  15. that legacy was no go. it had an auto transmission anywayi wonder if the whole subframe from a donor (with suspension and steering, brakes and rotors etc.) could be swapped? then i wouldn't have to shorten drive axles, only the drive shaft though i guess i'd have to roll the fenders
  16. this is my car don't know about the body but i'm pretty sure it has e81 engine in it next to it is also subie ...but almost 25 years younger =o)
  17. i can't believe the amount of work you put into it! you might as well build a new car body from the scratch =o) i wonder if you had to shorten drive shaft and axles i'm just asking because i got 86 hatch and will be doing complete engine/transmission/suspension swap in a while and started looking for a donor car. any advice? especially on suspension and drivetrain part was ready to buy 96 legacy turbo cheap for a donor but it has auto tranny and i think dohc engine is a bit too big
