  1. Well, I was trying to assess the number of conversions because I wanted some general idea as to the ratio of successes to failures. The higher the success rate, the more confident one would feel before undertaking a project. To everyone who has commented on this thread: Thank you. This actually seems to be a viable project. Now to set up a budget and find a donor vehicle...nothing acceptable yet, in either venture
  2. I may be wrong but it is my understanding that the driveline would have to be shortened? Pick your evil I suppose. Back to the TCU. Why would I need an EJ TCU if I already have a TCU that controls my current 4 spd in the Loyale? Does the TCU and the new EJ ECU have to communicate?
  3. This much be such a bad idea that no one wants to say how bad it is
  4. Now, if it were totally up to me I would be putting in the 5 speed. However, since some things are beyond my control, such as with all things wife-concerned, I will be looking to keep the 4-speed auto. I have made several attempts to look this up but with no success. Been done?
  5. Thanks everyone. I got quite a few questions answered by this thread. General Disorder, the next time I'm up near the City of Roses I could stop by and yak with ya a bit. I'd make sure that lunch or dinner would make it worth your while.
  6. Ok. This swap thing looks pretty cool. Currently, I've got an ea82t and I can hear some strange noises brewing in the turbo area. I see some really great write ups and lots of discussion on this swap. I'm curious though, just how many people do any of you estimate that have actually gone through with this? 20? 50? 100? 200? more? Last question: anybody here start one of these swaps and give up due to complexity? I'm not talking about funds running out or ex-wifes forcing them to sell their project or anything like that. I mean, just plain give up because they coudn't figure it out (assuming they started in the first place). That friggin wiring scares me to death.
  7. got the headlight and hubcaps. Thanks for sending. great deal.

  8. Tonight my wife watched a movie. In a week she probably will not even think of it again. Also tonight, I read this thread (most of it anyways). In a year I will still be inspired your efforts and devotion. Thank you for documenting this.

  13. markjw, just wanted to say thanks again. I tried your second method and all is aok. I wasn't able to bend the piece back together to get the clip back on but it's good enough on for me.
  14. markjw, Thanks! gonna go with one or the other. Probably one cut.
  15. So I go out to replace the front struts today. Clymer manual instructions seem pretty easy. Jack car up, take clip off brake line, two bolts on bottom, three on top. Easy peasy. NOT So i take the brake clip off and notice that I cant find a way to remove the brake line from the strut. WTF? Does anyone have a Chilton's or know how to deal with this? I figure I'm gonna have to figure out where to take apart the brake line to slide it through the hole. I may have 2 options: 1. At the point where it goes through the strut (i think theres a fitting back there) 2. At the break caliper (but im not sure if that fitting will slip through the hole in the strut) No. 1 looks likely. Then bleed the brakes... sigh...what a freaking project just for the struts... If anyone has a better idea I would love to hear it.
  16. Super clean ride. I like that rack. What kind is it?
  17. lastchance, I know it's been a while since this thread was active. I'm having similiar issues and if you're still out there, did you ever get this fixed?
