  1. I have been working on my 91 Loyale that I picked up a few weeks ago. I have been asking a bunch of newb questions and would like to thank the folks who educated me. Here are a few pics of my car that I'd like to share:
  2. has anyone used 2wd loyale struts on a 4wd wagon? Are they just as low or any difference from the xt struts? I can get 2wd loyale struts locally? For xt struts are there any specific years that they have to be from to fit the loyale or is it all interchangeable?
  3. I think i've figured out what im doing up front: xt struts or similar with an aftermarket spring. Problem is finding xt struts, does anyone still make them? Around here I cant find new or used. anybody have part numbers? kyb or any aftermarket struts for the xt? Thanks
  4. I've notice its not very popular to lower the loyales but have seen a few post of people here who have done it. and I have a few questions for those people. I went ahead and tried today and cut a coil in the back and fliped the top hat. I didnt have much luck with the front though. What would get the front about the same height maybe a tad lower? The back fender has 1" gap from the wheel, 15s with 60 series tire. I'd like to match that up front. Maybe theres a strut from another vehicle that fits the ea82 steering knuckle but has a shorter body? then just swap the top hat and maybe a shorter spring.
  5. Today my accelerator pedal started staying at the floor after pressing it. While looking into that I noticed the butterfly in the trottlebody only opens 1/4 of the way with the pedal to the metal. I think the cable is O.G. and probly stretched out because I couldnt adjust it enough to get rid of the slack. I also think there may be a return spring missing from the pedal assembly. As of now there is only one spring at the pivot point of the pedal. Does anyone have an illustrated parts breakdown of the accelerator pedal assembly, my Haynes manual does not go into much detail of these parts.
  6. I remember seeing it and thinking what does this do?... Oh nothing. you saved my weekend because I would have wasted so much time and I never would have thought to go to that switch.
  7. Wow! Thanks rugby_subie, I was shooting all kinds of wires and getting nowhere. It was blowing my mind but it was just a switch that I had hit.
  8. the cheapest pump I have been able to find is at local parts stores they all go for $146.xx Its been doing fine the way it is now though. I plan on keeping this car and an ej swap would be really cool. Im looking into that and might attempt it around January so Im putting the least amount of money into things that wouldnt stay in after the swap.
  9. Yeah it has some scars, but it mic'd out within spec and made good oil press. Plus they wanted twice that for a pump.
  10. Astroturf, I did that in an old VW, it was great for the beach easy to sweep or vacuum out the sand.
  11. I had everything together then I read flowmastered's post about turning it over a few times by hand. That would kind of re-assure me that it was good to go. I started it up and runs fine. Thanks for the info and help guys.
  12. Tthe previous owner told me it had been ticking since she bought it, at least the past 130,000mi. Her mech told her what it would cost for him to fix it but that it was ok to drive like this so she declined. I have a bit of mechanical OCD, so I could'nt stand to run the car with that tick.
  13. Im pretty pumped that I have eliminated the lifter tick in my 91 Loyale. I know this is a common issue thats been covered a bunch, but I figured I'd let you guys know how it went for me. I started out trying fresh oil and MMO. It worked almost imediatly until the oil warmed up, tho it was slightly less noticable. So I went one step further and replaced the "mickey mouse" gasket, which by the way was in terrible shape. I finished that job up, primmed the oil pump and expected to hear lifters for the first few second untill oil pressure built up. I was kind of let down when the lifters stayed ticking for 10 minutes. So I shut it down and was comfortable just dealing with the sound since the thing ran fine othrewise. The thing that gets me is after driving around today, about 40 miles, I got out of the car while it was idling and the motor was so quiet. Anybody have any theorys why it took so long for the lifters to quiet down?
  14. somick, if you could take a look though and see where your ground is grounded I would appreciate it. even though it works I'd like to have it in the proper spot.
  15. I could tell from looking which one was ground, just didnt remember where it bolted down and it had a strange crimp on the end. I just bolted it up at the bottom starter mount and it starts fine. My corner lights and tail lamps stay lighted now but I think thats an unrelated issue.
  16. Im trying to put my starter back in after some maintenance that required removing it. I have gotten the wirring mixed up though. There are two heavy gauge wires, one red, and one black with a red stripe. I cant remember where the black one with the red stripe goes. I believe it is a ground.
  17. thats the style I think im going with. Couldnt find the PIAAs but they have Rain-X brand just like that locally.
  18. ok the passenger cam gear has the "o" up and the drivers side is down and the fly wheel is on the center mark. Just like when i dissasembled it. Taking a break for supper but then hopefully I can have it running an hour after that. thanks
  19. I have a SPFI ea82, I removed the timming belts so I could change the oil pump "mickey mouse" gasket. I removed only what I needed to get the oil pump out, so the cam gears stayed in and in the same position. Also the crank is in the same position as when removing the belts. My question is do I still have to spin the crank 360* after installing the first belt? Or can I just throw everything back on and start the motor up? Also I believe the ea82 is non-interferance, am I correct?
  20. I'll be moving to Colorado this winter and bringing my '91 Loyale. Never having lived through a real winter, I was wondering if I could get some recommendations on a quality winter wiper blade? I did read some reviews on amazon but they weren't very informative.
  21. I reccomend the murphys oil soap for both interior and exterior
  22. if its a bare block my opinion dont buy it unless you need it.
  23. just wanted to ask again about the total to ship door panels and rear stub axle to 29906 so I can pay-pal you the money.
