  1. Hey Ed, I run in RM4 class with my 2.5L SOHC in my Impreza. I would suggest a soft to medium compound rally tire for this event. You won't need your mud tires. You will probably be surprised at how much this event will chew up your tires. The surface is slippery gravel on top of packed dirt(no topsoil) which never seems to rut up. There is a concrete pad to park on. I would try to get there early to get a spot on it as this will be a popular event as we have had around 60 drivers at our normal events. Ken has been quite dominate in his EVO this year though I might have a trick up my sleeve for nationals. I am excited to see all you guys out here and have some good tough competition. As for the N/A part, I am pretty sure you have a 2.2L in the impreza right? It has been very tough for me to be competitive with the turbo guys lately and we don't have an N/A class. Ken just seems to get better and better in the EVO and it is hard to keep up with a car that has twice the horsepower as your own. That being said the courses out here are usually quite technical compared to the Midwest national courses over the last few year. This helps to narrow the HP gap. You guys are good drivers and I think that you will be very competitive once you get the surface down. Nationals are on the 9th of October. Early October can be quite cold in Colorado so bring a good jacket, pants, shorts and t shirts as it can also be in the 80s. October and November are our driest months so don't expect rain or snow. But here you never know. As for running of the event, I haven't been to the last couple of races but we have had trouble lately with the not being able to get a lot of runs. I hope we have that figured out by Nationals and we should. We usually run two run groups in the morning and two in the afternoon. So you have three runs in the morning and three in the afternoon. I think we will have a night event at Nationals also. Sorry it is kind of scattered but I hope that answers your questions. Please ask more if you need to. -Max
  2. Before we got back into rifle there was a atv playground and the hatch was the perfect size so i played around a little. Then I found this. -Max
  3. This last saturday, my cousin and I went up on the Roan Plateau outside of Rifle Colorado. The Roan Plateau is also know as the Naval Oil Shale Reserve. 55,186 acres of the Plateau are going to be leased out for natural gas exploration on Aug 14th 2008. We thought we would go see it before the oil companies go in. I was very surprised when I went on top of the plateau as I was expecting a high mountain desert of sage and pinon pine. I was wrong. We started in the town of Rifle at 95 degrees, rose 4000' within 9 miles (2000' of that in one 2.5 mile section of road) and dropped to 75 degrees. Once we got up there we saw high mountain meadows, aspen and pine forests, and wild flowers everywhere. Not what I expected. There weren't many people up there and most of the traffic we saw were oil workers using the roads to get to private land on top of the Plateau. We drove along the rim road taking has many of the little overgrown side road that we could. One of these road started to head into a canyon and then deadended. We got out of the car and went for hike which all we had to follow was game trails. We came across some cool waterfalls, forests and some stinging nettle. I took a bunch of pictures so here they are.   5. Thanks Zap! 12000ft? Yeah, there was probably about 8 ft of snow at this spot in March but it melts pretty quick up here. There are still quite a few trails closed that are at about 9000ft because they are in the trees and they have massive drifts on them. There are also a few trails that are probably not going to be passable this year because of all the snow. -Max
  6. I took a break from clearing some dead trees at my cabin and did some light wheeling up off of Boreas Pass. I didn't do anything too crazy as I was alone, but I had some fun. The car keeps surprising me every time I go off-roading as the only problem I have had is lack of power(1.8 carbed engine and 12000ft don't mix so well). I haven't had any clearance problems yet. Look at that flex! If anyone every wants to go 4 wheeling send me a PM as I am up for it if I am around. I am going to be in the Roaring Fork area for most of the summer but I return to Denver on the weekends often. -Max
  7. Thanks Ed, I just got back home. It was a fun weekend and your son is a tough competitor and a good guy. I wish i could have stayed longer also but I need to get back to work to pay for the gas out there! It ended up being about $500 in gas for there and back. Also, I owe you an exhaust hanger. I remember that it was on my car as I was driving away, then I tried to get it off and couldn't. -Max

  9. Its pretty sweet, and I've taken it off a few pretty sweet jumps. I am living in Glenwood Springs and will be doing a few cool trails up here. -Max
  10. It was a fun day up there. I was just Jason in his stock brat and Frank and I in my hatchback. First we went up to East Portal Road and tried to go up West Magnolia Road and it was closed because of soft roadbed. Then we tried going up on the Apex Trail and we got about 1 1/2 miles and we were stopped by the snow. Then we went over to Central City and headed up by Columbine campground. There was a nice maze of trails up behind one of the graveyards across from Columbine Campground. We played around on some tailings piles which was pretty fun. Then we headed up Yankee Hill and played around up there. Jason got stuck in a mud hole and I had to pull him out. The cars did amazingly well, I would go through a hairy section and look back and the Brat would be right behind me. -Max

  13. A few of us from CCR are going up on saturday and seeing who else wants to go. I want to try out Yankee Hill, Apex trail, and maybe just drive around and find some cool trails. We are going to meet at 10am at the Milk House on HWY 93 about 2 miles north outside of golden. -Max
  14. I am ready to go.... in about a week(after finals). I went and started a trail by yankee hill last weekend and I could have gotten pretty far, if there would have been another car with me. I was on some ATV tracks and the car was doing great. -Max
  15. figured it out, dash light wiring was lose and grounding itself. Pretty sad b/c I torn apart my whole dash to find it. -Max
  16. I have an 84 hatchback and my Dash/Running Lights have gone out but my headlights, brakelights, signals and hazards all work fine. I checked the fuse box and the fuse was blown. I replaced it, then turned my lights on, instantly, the dome light dims and then fuse blows. I tried another light switch and it still does the same thing. I unplugged everything from the back of the cluster, still blows the fuse. I unplugged the brake lights and the license plate lights and still blows the fuse. Any ideas, any common short places? -Max

  21. I know everything is pretty much snowed in right now but I am getting really excited for spring and summer. Some places I would like to try out this year and the estimated date they would be clear of most snow: - Left Hand Canyon- West of Boulder. Never tried it in a Subaru, but I know a lot of you guys know what it's all about. open now probably or early spring. - Apex trail- Tolland to Central City, This was the one that the Titan tried to go up on our recent snow trip. Pretty easy but there are some cool trails off of it. High Altitude and maybe mine ruins. May - Jenny Creek Trail (again) I think we can get a lot farther and I won't get lost this time. This one should probably be done in Late June or July as the snow Drifts are suppose to be pretty bad up there. - Spring Creek. I have heard it is tough, but we can at least go check it out. May/June - Webster Pass. This one goes from Montezuma (Keystone) to Grant on 285, Suppose to be pretty easy, but there are a lot of roads that branch off from it and they can be tough. High altitude and Lots of mine ruins. June -Boreas Pass. I have a cabin up on Boreas, very easy but moderate trails that shoot off of it. High Altitude and a lot of mine ruins. May/June -Slaughterhouse Gulch- Heard a lot about it and want to try it. April/May? -Wheeler Trail. ??? Please, if you have done any of these check in and tell us how you liked them?   22. Agreed, There are a ton here, and after my recent visit to washington I would say we are pretty close per capita for subaru and it is hard to go a second without seeing an outback in Boulder. I would say it is the most popular car model in Boulder, period. -Max
  23. The Volt meter on my 84 hatchback started to slip slowly from around 12 down to 8 volts about a month ago. I put an extra one I got from a friend in and the meter showned 12. In the last couple of weeks, the number has been slowly slipping again. If I don't drive the car for a couple of days, it will start showing about 11 again but as the a day of driving goes on, it slips to 8. Sometimes randomly it jumps up to 12 again but slowly comes down again. Any Ideas? Thanks -Max
  24. check up on this website once and a while and on ebay under JDM forester STI. You are looking for JDM forester STi Strut and Spring takeoffs. I have a friend who put them in his 03 TS wagon and he got the part of the lift of a forester and the ride of an STi. You might lose a little ride height.
