  1. No its the right year and I even drove it to verify the speedo and od work correctlty. Weird. I have done the swap twice but maybe I just pulled a bonehead move.....twice. LOL I'll try it again this weekend and report back. Thanks for the feedback guys!
  2. I believe there is a 4 pin on the speedo itself that causes it. I removed the new speedo from the cluster and installed it in the OEM cluster and had the same issue. If its not supposed to I guess it could be a bad speedo.
  3. That's what I was wondering. I know older Ford's from the 90s have the security module in the cluster so I wondered if the Legacy might be the same.
  4. I tried flipping it off and on but it didn't make a change. Hmmm....maybe I'll just try again.
  5. I have a 96 OB and it has a bad odometer. The car has over 350k miles and title branded with unknown mileage so no I'm not doing anything illegal. I tried replacing it and it works but the parking lights always stay on unless I put the old cluster back in. Anyone know the trick to this? Does it have to be programmed to the car? Any help is appreciated!
  6. Another more long term option after polishing is to cover them the clear headlight films on eBay. They don't cost much and will prevent further damage from road debris.
  7. They steal them for the platinum. Metal recyclers buy them. I hate to hear about deadbeats doing stuff like this. The straight pipe is fine. It won't hurt anything but most exhaust shops can install an aftermarket cat for about $150.
  8. Another option is to use a set of baja springs which should give you a 1 inch lift for a little less money.
  9. That's a good idea. I have some very minor slap that lasts about 2-4 seconds before whirring down dramatically at start up. I still wouldn't mind knowing though.
  10. 10-12-14-17 are a must on these cars but you just about rebuild the car with those four sizes. Glad you got it out!
  11. The only thing you'll really have to watch out for are electrical gremlins. These cars has lots of electrical issues according to my father who was the service manager of a local Ford/Mercury dealer for they're entire sales run in the US. If everything works at this point I would think you'll be fine.
  12. Very nice. I had a 1980 Mazda B2000 and it was a fantastic truck.
  13. Thanks for the help gentlemen. The engine fired up on the first try. I ran into a few more issues than expected but all in all a very simple swap.
  14. So I'm in the middle of this swap and things kind of off. The throttle body and IAC seem to be identical to the 2.2 down to the part numbers and connectors. The coil and knoxk sensor however are different. The knock sensor connector isn't the same but I can swap over the original 2.2 unit. No biggie. The coil however is completely different. The connector is different, the outputs are female on the 2.2 vs male on the 2.5 and its a different size so it won't bolt on to the 2.5 intake. Are the pinouts the same so I can just swap the connector? Any ideas on why they're different?
  15. Okay cool. Thanks for the help. Since the headgaskets and timing belt were done 10k miles ago I think I'll try and run it. I will likely take a look at the EJ22 and if it doesn't have a cracked head I may rebuild it. With 330k+ miles I'm sure it needs it and it leaks from everywhere there is a seal. It uses about 1/2 gallon in just 15 miles and runs on 3 cylinders so its pretty bad. If the short block is unhurt I my rebuild and use it for a frankenstein engine if there is head damage. Thanks again for the help!
  16. Did you read my post? I'm not doing this for 30HP.
  17. Sorry about that, I know better. 1996 OBW with the EJ22 and manual trans. EJ25 is from a 1998 OBW with an automatic. Sounds like this will be very straight forward. Any possibility the ECU from the auto will plug and play with my manual trans car?
  18. New to the forums here and have a question. Yes, I have searched the net throroughly and found different answers so I would like to get a second opinion. From what I have read I can swap an EJ25 DOHC into my OBW using the EJ22 harness, ECM, throttle body, and IAC valve while keeping the 25 complete with sensors, injectors, and exhaust/cats. Can anyone confirm this? Is there anything else thats needed? To go ahead and answer the next question a freind had the car with the EJ25 and it was hit in the rear. The engine had head gaskets replaced and was serviced about 10k miles ago and was basically free. The EJ22 in the car has a head gasket that is leaking into the cooling sysem and over 300k miles so that is the reason for the swap. Thanks for any help anyone can provide!
