  1. i got a 87 rx that is gonna have a ej in in and i was wondering if the whole dash needs removed, im just trying to get things done before i get my harness back
  2. I'm certain the cam timing is on I left the shrouds off also so I can see what's going on I'll mess with firing order tomorrow
  3. im dealing with a 85 ea82 carb wagon, it backfires while cranking over and wont start and ive triple checked cam timing, firing order and set dizzy where rotor points to hill holder at 0 degrees and tried on center of the three marks on flywheel. it also has delta cams in it and remove egr stuff, was a smooth runner until i changed the block and did a full reseal ive put together a ea82t 4 or 5 times without this much problems
  4. I should check the lines. But I have 14 21 22 23 24 I believe for codes but it's still strong and fast just doesn't like cruising the boost gauge needle jumps and flickers a Tad bit under boost
  5. my 87 rx runs almost good now until i get on the freeway. when the engines warm the check engine light comes on and if i go faster than 55 it jolts real bad and my boost gauge shows right on zero and the turbo spools and in 5th gear, when i floor it the boost goes to 9psi instantly and takes off quick and doesn't cut out if im accelerating even a little, the car gets real bad mpg like 15-20ish and about 175 per tank. the car rolls freely and nothing seems to be hanging up, i can even cruse in 1st gear and and rpm above 3k it jolts, pops, and spudders, unless i get on it and it gets full boost by 2k rpm i adjusted the tps to get best vacuum which is about 18psi at idle so what could this be? Im going ej real soon but i wanna know whats up with it
  6. from what i understood on numchux's write up on the swap i strip down to engine control and i wire it to gauges, fuse box, relays, grounds, string hotwire to ecu and ignition relay, and leave my wiring for lights, fuse box, wipers, and all the other stuff?
  7. so you strip it to engine control and i merge them myself? sorry im learning
  8. Well i got the 92 auto harness and ecu and i could pay 250 to have it done right. i got all the front end wiring, dash and wires running from ecu so i give you those and harness from my ea and you will make it to where it just basically plugs in and wiring is done?
  9. thanks because thats what i bought
  10. theres 2 ecu looking things arround steering column area and which is ecu?
  11. Well I got the harness out but if I would known I could have got from a newer one lol
  12. sorry i dont have much knowledge on the ecu stuff so whats the big difference between obd-I and odb-II?
  13. Is there anyone In the Olympia area that knows how to make wire harnesses to swap a 92 ej into my 87 rx
  14. ok thanks for the assistance
  15. i inspected my hydraulic lash adjusters and one is spongy, so is there anyway to prime them or is it done?
  16. What is recommended for headgasket brand. Would the cheap eBay ones be durable enough or should I go with cometic MLS, felt pro or?
  17. i pulled pan off to clean grime out and did they come with a pan gasket? mine just had grey gasket sealer that wouldn't dissolve in solvent. any suggestions. I was also considering delta cams for mid range to top end power, any ideas on that? I appreciate the help
  18. its out of a 92 legacy and im going to swap into a 87 rx and i heard ej22's up to 94 are the most durable
  19. i just bought a ej with 170k for 185 bucks, i pulled the heads off and the cylinder bores still have all the cross hatches around them and motor just has grease all over it and my question is, is there any common things that fail like seals, gaskets, oil pump... i dont wanna tear it all the way down unless i have to.
  20. OK I'll just get 5spd stuff
  21. im thinking about ditching the ea82t in my rx and getting a ej22 out of a 92 legacy at the junk yard but my question is since its a auto will the wire harness and ecu be the same a 5 spd. theres a 5 spd car there with harness and all that stuff but the hoods been off and the motors all rusty:confused:
  22. maf is very clean but i may try another one i got, i forgot to mention that my fuel pump is wired to a toggle switch, which i couldn't imagine is to good but i couldn't get power to the pump i tryed looking for loose wires and replaced the relay but nothing but it was going ok with the switch until this started happening. do ecu's short out that often on these cars?
  23. just bought Bosch platinum plugs and it ran better but was still cutting out, then i connected the little green test plug and it completely quit the cutting out except when i take off it doesnt like it if i lug it and i gotta push the gas a little more than i should before it responds. i heard that when the green connectors are connected that the timing wont advance, is that true?
  24. also is this normal? go to link for quick vid http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Icl6408vg6g
