Gas? Fuel? What is it? *EA82T Performance Thread*
Nice read! I'm absorbing and taking ALL of this in for future reference. I quoted the above info for a reason. I remember reading something from 'Skip' here on blow off valve from THIS thread. Here is the quote, "ah actualy the Subaru engineers must have given thought to the problem that a blow off valve or By Pass valve is suppose to solve. (i.e. the boost pressure bouncing off a rapidly closed throttle plate and hitting the turbo's impellor thus slowing it down.) They did this by using a "dash pot" Little known and not often mentioned devise slows the throttle closing just before idle and allows some of the boost pressure leak by the throttle butterfly. I have a Volvo By Pass valve unit fitted to my 87 5 speed turbo and it does help a little compared to the well adjusted dash pot. Newer cars use BPV's because they have higher factory boost pressures." Comments?

EA81 vs EA71 Auto transmission questions
SUBARU3, I'm glad you brought this subject up. I LOVE automatics unlike most of the people here. I have not had an old school Subaru automatic except for my 1989 FWD Auto XT6. I had always wondered why most people seem to bash them as well. I was hoping to own an early modelled Subaru automatic someday and try to have the valve body modified, synthetic or fresh tranny fluid and a nice size tranny cooler put on. So far, my XT6 has been a joy to drive with these modifications. Heck, if I was rolling in $$$$, I'd even consider an upgraded torque converter on an older modelled turbo. Seems like it would be a lot of fun.

And the engine is a-coming out...um, again
Dennis, I hope this works out for you in the end. We have to head up to the tracks together. The tracks are going to be opening up and I'm eager to see how the car runs.

Turbocharged Justy
I offered to purchase a kit from Mr. Joe Davis first even though I don't have a Justy. Before selling it though, could you get a blueprint or something of the kit and make additional parts so you can keep reselling it again and again? It would be a shame to see it go to just one person and that be it. People have been waiting for something like this for quite some time. And thanks Joe for joining the USMB and posting info about your project.

Turbocharged Justy
Stock XT6 injectors flow 185ccs. Now you have to find out what the Justy flows. 185cc?!? Pathetic! Maybe Justy injectors would be an upgrade for me.

How to replace fuel temp sensor
Myxalplyx replied to joutback's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXFound the culprit of my problem about 2 minutes ago. You see, years ago, I had swapped out my stock ECU for other units when modifying my Outback Sport. Recently, after trying week after week to find the culprit of my check engine light (P0183), I had tried 3 different ECUS. The Legacy unit and two 1997 Impreza units didn't work. There are 3 different 1997 2.2ltr Impreza ECUs that you can purchase. 22611-AC830 22611-AC831 22611-AD400 The one I kept getting was the last one (22611-AD400). This is the one that throws the 'P0183' code (Fuel Temp Sensor A, High Input Circuit). Its been driving me nuts for almost 4yrs now but I didn't care most of the time since I didn't have to pass motor vehicle with them hooking up to my ECU. I even swapped ECUs with a fellow 1997 2.2ltr Impreza Outback Sport owner and it didn't work since he had the -AD400 model. Even took it to 4 dealerships and 3 different shops and no-one could help. When hooking up to the ECU, it stated that it was a 2.2ltr 1997 model so the average joe would go off of that and thought the ECU was ok. The correct ECU for my Outback Sport is 22611-AC831. I just tried it out about two minutes ago and the check engine light immediately went out. Woohoo! Now to put it all together, take it through Motor Vehicle and drive. I took off work tonight and tomorrow because I'm so happy. *Tail Wagging* L8Rs.....

how do you define an addiction?
Dang, I don't feel so bad anymore. You guys got issues! Unfortunately, I wish I were in you guy's shoes. I own one Toyota that snuck in and two scoobies. I love my subarus! The Toyota Matrix doesn't seem to have any soul. I told my wife this and she just Whateva! I keep trying to make my slow scoobs do what they aren't supposed to be doing.....go fast. "Yeah baby, that's it....talk to me, faster, FASTA" " Scoob--WooaarrhhhhaaaaaHHHAAAahhhhaaaaHHH......spit..spit" Me.....OMG (Not in a good way either).

Justy's new web
What's this? A turbocharged Subaru Justy? I've been wanting to see something like this a long time. More info.....more info! I couldn't imagine how a boosted 1600-1800lbs Justy would feel like with about 150-160hp/torque. Could the automatic (ECVT) Justy's belt driven tranny handle this? I don't think a shop like Level 10 performance could 'upgrade' this type of tranny.

update 86 turbo xt mods
Check: http://car-part.com/ I just looked there and saw quite a bit of Legacy Turbos from $450 down to $175. Some even negotiable. Good luck! BTW: I only saw 4 WRX turbos here going up to $500. I call B.S. on the hp to the wheels. *My evil plan to see a dyno chart* B.S...B.S. (Man..that's awesome).

intercooler and blow-off valve/ bypass valve setups
Excellent info Skip! I do no know why I never bothered asking info abou the hoses here. I've been looking for a place to purchase silicone hoses and rubber fittings for a long time. The hoses will help a good deal in future projects. Thanks again!

modded 87 turbo XT - UPDATE 3/18/04 - She Runs !!
Hey Dennis, If you are going to an autox sometime in your XT turbo, shoot me a PM or email. I'm not sure how you feel about the past car 'incident' but I haven't heard anything from you in a bit. If you are down, give me a shout. My XT6 isn't perfect but it's running ok. Maybe you'd like to do a side-by-side comparison sometime.

1.8ltr turbo and dual exhaust ports
Hey all, I just have a quick question about some of the 1.8ltr old school subbies. I have a diagram of a single exhaust port 1.8ltr turbo XT header that I'm looking at. http://mywebpages.comcast.net/thomasck/XT6-TurboHeader1.JPG I've read that some 1.8ltr N/A engines have dual exhaust ports. Do any of the 1.8ltr turbo engines have dual exhaust ports? Thanks for any help!

Why does my oil dipstick keep popping out!?
Thanks Skip! Trust me, I don't take your advice with a grain of salt. I'll just stick with a Subaru PCV valve for now on instead of the Pep Boys brand.

Why does my oil dipstick keep popping out!?
Hello Skip, I'll be doing a bit of searching now on this subject but could you point me to a post or two about this problem? I have been having some oil leak issues on my XT6 for years (like who doesn't on old school subarus?) and it seems everytime one leak is fixed, another springs up. My dipstick used to come out all the time also. After having that rubber ring on the dipstick replaced, it doesn't come out anymore but another leak sprung up not to long afterward on my oil pump. The oil pump is new as well as the gaskets and have been fixed twice. I have replaced my PCV valve with an aftermarket unit from Pep Boys. That's why I wanted to know more information on what you stated above. This is the first time I've heard (read) about this so I'm concerned. Why are the aftermarket units faulty and what name brands seemed to be the ones at fault?

How to replace fuel temp sensor
Myxalplyx replied to joutback's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXUpdate! Went to dealership today and they confirmed that I do in fact have a temp sensor. They simply said that it's probably bad. The way the mechanic described the changing of this sensor is by having it soldered on. I attempted to have my fuel temp sensor light fixed on a few occasions, to no avail. One I remember in particulator was when a shop called Vac Motorsports in PA tried. They failed but what I remember is that the shop owner 'removed' a piece from the pump assembly trying to fix it. He may have said it was the temp sensor but I can not remember. Since he had no Subaru shop manual, he was lost. I still have this small bronze looking piece in my car. It seems to have a few slits on the bottom-side of it and it's shaped like a thimble with the open end closed. The closed in part seems to come down to a small lip of sorts. On the bottom side there's a wire cut off from it. There seemed to have been a wire soldered onto the top of this 'thimble-like' looking piece also. That wire was cut as well. Could this very well be the fuel temp sensor I'm seeking to change/fix? Anyone have a part number for this piece? Nothing in my parts books make any reference to this piece and the dealership couldn't help either. They gave part#85111AC003. Subaruparts.com indicates this is some fuel metering unit. Not what I need. BTW: I can see some yahoo trying to solder this part on inside the fuel tank.

How to replace fuel temp sensor
Myxalplyx replied to joutback's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXHey Glen, I was hoping that the Pocketlogger perhaps had a glitch but the trip to motor vehicle comfirmed the Pocketlogger's reading. The code read P0183 at Motor Vehicle also. The CEL stays on constantly even after a reset. It seems a loto codes that throw a CEL takes time to come back after a reset. Not so with the P0183 code. It just stays on. Otherwise, I could get away with it if it took time come back by resetting it with the Pocketlogger while waiting in the inspection lane. Wifelady has me driving all over the place today and tomorrow so it'll be a hit and run deal with me on fiddling with the fuel tank. I'll take another look to see about the 4-6 pin and report back what configuration I have. Ah.....there's hope.
