  1. I think its three things #1 fireing order 1.3.2.4. , one head fires first then the other 1,3 then 2,4 , #2 VW's fireing is diffrent but have a simmler sound so part of it has to be the shape of the engine 3# the large piston bore VS the short stroke , this is common on all subaru engines of all years H6 or H4. i can still tell a Subaru engine apart from a HONDA or any other engine no matter what exhost system it has .
  2. simple this was a lot easyer , and i get a extra benifit with the smaller tank when the big tank gets below 1\4 tank and i cornered hard i would run out of fuel for a second , this way the little tank will only drop for a second and not starve the engine of fuel , the older Subie gas tanks have no baffels to prevent this . i have built several custom fuelcells for other cars but i didnt want to put it in the box and the under box tank needs a hump for the diff , too much work
  3. I built a second fuel tank for the WRX fuel pump and sender unit, im running the stock fuel pump to keep it full . it fits just under the box near the stock pump .
  4. no welding to the sway bar you would be right , one leg of the arm has to be rebent in so the bar is narower for the older body style and a bit cut off that end , then you can use the controlarms with the stock swaybar mounts .
  5. ya im the one that did the EA81 SPFI swap with turbo on my hatch ( sadly the hach has gone ware all old SUBARUS go ..... sold to some one else for parts after i wore every thing out ) i was on the old message board mostly but i look in from time to time , i used the XT6 hubs and axel ends on the front and had to cut and shorten them to fit the narower car also built custom strut pockets to work with the 2 bolt style nuckle and socket type strut the rear is as easy as a rear disc swap , with XT6 swaybar shortened to fit , the WRX tranny axel splines are the same as all 1986 and newer turbo axels and XT6 . there is a lot of small things had to be fabed up , drilled bigger or taken from some other year or type of subaru to make all of this work well ,
  6. well the brat was a 83 carbed that started out 7years ago when i got it had 250 000 mi on it from California with a 4speed high low , first mods were bigger carb + intake recurve the dist. that was fun for a fue years then came the campleat EA81t with wiring out of a 84 turbo wagon and an 87RX AWD 5speed that was fast , so then came the XT6 brake and hub swap to stop it now i got a hold of a wrecked 2002 wrx wagon and swaped the motor, tranny , rear diff , engine wiring +ECU, power stering rack for the quicker ratio , and fuel pump , the custom parts are the front cvaxels, rad., tranny mounts front sway bar ,air intake and down pipe exhost and back , im a welder / fab. at a big steel shop so building the rad and axels was not hard , MORE PICS TO COME WHEN I GET TIME
  7. It fits like it was desined to go in , no cutting involved only a little frame massage on the drivers side so the valve cover had clearence , and a custom tranny mount , it actualy has more room at the firewall then the 2002 WRX for some reason , i have the 1984 turbo engine saddle so the up pipe just needed some heat sheald hammering , the wiring was the bigest job , i only have the engine management part of the harness left lots of cutting and soddering wires :-\ and days going through the Subaru shop wiring book rechecking wires its hard to estamate the harness because the nessary engine harness runs all through the car all the way to the back , its well intergrated in to the rest of the car not like i first hoped its not as simple as just reading the wiring diograms they dont tell you all you need to know .
  8. This is my current project and the specs are in the EA to EJ roll call thred i havent posted the progress since beacuse i know how some people are when a project like this goes wrong itRUNS and i just have to work out some small details to go for the test launch it will be getting a new paint job and 17inch rims newer racing seats and 4piont harness with a roll bar all to come this winter ,
  9. just get some BFGoorich TA's there cheeper then most and i had a set out last 3 Subarus and 5years i still have them on rims in my back yard , but you are still looking at $300+ CA$ all mounted and ballenced , with tires you get what you pay for and its the only thing that actualy makes your car go , Keep the rubber side down
  10. Well i havent posted much on the board for the last 2 years but my 84 brat is getting an EJ swap but all i have to say is that it will be faster then a new WRX YES IT RUNS !!!!!!!!! I think this it the first EJ20T swap in to a EA81 car other then the Ausie's well correct me if im wrong , i know its the only one in the west coast of Canada , its year in the works and hope it will be finished this spring . Its a 2002 WRX Engine,5speed tranny rear diff. and ECU, XT6 5bolt hubs+brakes front and rear,WRX master cyl. + hydrolic clutch, custom CV axels, drive shaft and sway bars, WRX custom peddle set , custrom fuel tank + pump , custom alu. rad with pusher fans, K&N filter 3inch SS exhost with down pipe no cats. estamate 300HP at the crank in a car that has half the bulk of a new sti
  11. it sounds like the TPS (throttle position sensor) check that its reading at WOT (wide open throttle )
  12. its bin a long time since i've posted here but i thought i could help on this one . i have swaped the xt6 5lug on to my 83 brat but it needs a strut adapter , custom axel shaft , lower ball joint socket reamed bigger ,and the xt6 outer tierods . there are pics on my MSN site http://master.mx-targeting.com/mx/servlet/MXTarget?adcontext=http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t%3D25699&contextpeak=0&contextcount=0&countrycodein=CA&lastAdTime=0|0|0|1101420483|0|1101505509|0|0|0|&lastAdCode=6&cookie1=capdate%3D2616%26capdatedy%3D1126%26lupgtry%3D1%26lupgid%3D184%26lupgdt%3D1101347690868%26lflshdt%3D1097007082%26lstlogdt%3D20041126%26cntp%3Dcable%26capcnt%3D2%26capcntdy%3D2%26&cookie2=fstcidt%3D1097007082672%26&cookie3=1-1101504048-6139:94147:4795:86400:4294:521024:3967:245292:4298:1125886 http://groups.msn.com/RguyversSubarus/mesageboardpics.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=322 RguyversSubarus@groups.msn.com
  13. Yes you can change the stub shafts to the smaller spline shafts from a non turbo diff but you have to have the tranny as far apart as the tranny pictured , do not remove or ajust the side ajusters DO NOT AJUST! unless you know how to reset the diff .
  14. thanks thats what i thought . the fuel gage is a good idea i'll try that if the regulator seems to not fix it , What is the stock fuel pump good for + the injectors ? we plan on only running 5-7 psi for the turbo but i would like some ley way with some extra boost creep . i looked on the RS board and there is a lot of good info there, thanks .
  15. Normaly i work on the older stuff 90's and under but this project was to good to not get in to . We got all the mechanical end of it all worked out but when the car boosts it leans out and sputters just after 1-2+ - Psi , we have a air O2 sencer gage . Now my question is this use to be a N/A 2.5 so do we need a turbo fuel pressure regulator ? also we have installed a Gretty fuel management piggy back computer and were new to this and not realy sure how to set it up ? it has the optional desplay screen for it too . Any help with some one that has had this conversion would help me a lot to get some base line settings for the computer . thanks see pics at http://groups.msn.com/RguyversSubarus
  16. hope to see pics of it running this is the next mod. for my brat an EJ motor with a RX Hi Lo , i just hope the gears can handle it
  17. I'll try to send you what i can remember this weekend when i get time, im not on the computer that much these days
  18. well i had a 87 RX D/R 5speed in it but its out for some 1st gear sincro work Im a welder / fab. buy trade so stuff like this is what i do daily but just in larger production for G.M. military , 200 grand motor home stuff and lots of Freightliner Truck parts. i had thought of building just the adapter for the strut if there was enuff intrest but i would have to test it on a EA82 conversion to the 5 hub settup , the adapter would alow you to use the stock ea82 strut so you wouldn't have to try to find the rare coil sprun XT6 strut .
  19. this is my first plan on how i built the strut clamp , the final one i built is diffrent but you get the idea , http://groups.msn.com/RguyversSubarus/subarupartsandmods.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=265 yes i welded this one on but only on the bottem I did use the inner ends from the XT6 shafts too http://groups.msn.com/RguyversSubarus/mesageboardpics.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=325 Im running a built up EA81T with intercooler and 2 1\2" stainless exhost with custom down pipe . http://groups.msn.com/RguyversSubarus/mesageboardpics.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=318 I wish i had room for the ER27 but it is just sitting in my shop flor looking cool
  20. thats the main problem you have to use the XT6 shafts and ends , the EA81 axels have too small splines for the CV outter ends also I'm using the 5speed AWD XT6 tranny so it has the larger splined doj . this settup gives me a positive camber ajustment / \ and still have the stock widht . same E-mail just some times it gets lost in my junk mail
  21. Well its bin a long time since i've posted on the message board to any great extent since the older board . But i thought that some of you would be intrested in my last project , and current one first off can you spot the diffrent in the first pic http://groups.msn.com/RguyversSubarus/mesageboardpics.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=316 if you dont drive a new Subaru or XT6 then you know that the older 80's cars didnt have 5lug rims . http://groups.msn.com/RguyversSubarus/mesageboardpics.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=315 well i got a compleat XT6 drive trane to do the swap , the rear is easy just like a rear disc swap but not the front there are several complations , axel size , strut type , lower ball joint and tie rod ends , I built custom shorter CV shafts , built strut conversion clamps , reamed the lower control arm larger , shortened the inner tie rods. http://groups.msn.com/RguyversSubarus/mesageboardpics.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=319 http://groups.msn.com/RguyversSubarus/mesageboardpics.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=322 http://groups.msn.com/RguyversSubarus/mesageboardpics.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=323 http://groups.msn.com/RguyversSubarus/mesageboardpics.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=325 all this gets me a much better rims and tires , and the brake size is larger, so it stops like its a STi since the brat is so light , also i had the rear sway bar shortened so it has the XT6 + the larger 84 turbo wagon front bar .
  22. what part of Canada do you live ? i live in Kelowna B.C. and i'm part of the Okanagan Subaru Club , i have 5 Subarus my self and all turboed some modified so they are actuily fast ! if you are close i could help out in that department also i have club members in Alberta / Calgary that know a lot . let me know if you want ?
  23. my brat scoop for my inter coolerhttp://groups.msn.com/_Secure/0RgDKAvkVYRvJ3WBTKUwjo0ykfPcBFE*9wXmwzYBwvVq3TdUqhie5*I2*PRMELiwAGmybwFto*635sqJw*UCYIgCvJ4vDaUtpb6VLDQddFg8/brat.bmp?dc=4675389929588077219
