Supercharger
Yeah mine is dead, but you have to ask "why?" Greedy. It doesnt matter what you boost with if the timing isnt pulled. Run stock NA ecu and after awhile of high boost you are going to break something. Mine broke real bad but because I knew it was going to so I forced its hand and took it too the drag strip not once, but twice with bad compression, ran the crap out of it, AND THEN, ran the crap out of it at a rallycross. Near the end the boost was hitting almost 10 psi. I still drove it home, washed it off, went and picked up my kid, and drove it around the next day. And then parked it. You need some sort of engine management no matter what you have if the car wasnt intended to have boost.

A little story for those with cloth seats.
So back in 1991 I bought a 1978 (I think, it was many many eons ago) station wagon. It was subaru orange, fwd, and had crazy plaid cloth seats. After an engine swap (just a 1.6 for an actually running 1.6) I drove it for about almost a year. Then the cloth in the drivers seat started to tear. So I started yanking on the drivers seat cloth. What do I see? Brand Freaking NEW BLACK VINYL!!!!!! I proceed to yank all the cloth off all the seats I had BRAND NEW SEATS!!!!!!!!! It was awesome. The only damaged seats were the drivers since it did have 180ish K in miles. But the rest of the seats were brand freaking new. It was amazing how nice every seat was. The plaid seating took a serious beating and kept all the damage away from the seats. Oh yeah, it also protected the doors! My interior basically looked 95% new. But then since it had no engine my wife had it towed and crushed.

Yeah, a major mudfest. The worse the mud, the more the tires come into play. I was competative last year with my cut tires, but I was completely out of the loop this time and was embarrassed. Of course the fact I had no compression may have had a little to do with it. I only was able to do two runs due to "exessive" smoking. The XT6 was hot though.- May 15th Rallyx #2 in Oregon
Of Course! I have to be competative with bill price the evil wizard somehow!- May 15th Rallyx #2 in Oregon
I'm gonna be there to kick your asses. And if I can't kick your asses, my blown rings will blow smoke and oil over you windshields so you can't see where you are going, therefore allowing me to win. See you there!- Whats the hardest and fastest your 1973-1979 went?
I still miss my 1977 sedan. I drove to Chicago and back in 1990 with it. First I drove from Portland Oregon to Bozeman MT, no biggie. Then I drove from Bozeman to Minneapoilis in about 16-17 hours straight (1000 miles almost to the dot). This was the fastest top speed and fastest average I ever did in this sedan. I hit 113 once (basically redline in the little 4-speed) and I did 400 miles in 4.5 hours. AND I GOT 36 MPG for one tank!. Then I diddled about the midwest for a bit. Then I left Chicago at 12 noon. Hit the east side of Nebraska at 2 in the morning. Slept for 4 hours in a truckstop, started it up and didnt stop (except for gas and food of course) until I hit Hermiston Oregon 21-23 hours later. Wooh, what a drive. I miss that car.- Hood Scoops, when and why?
reddevil replied to Spokane-Pete's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXAny subaru with a hood scoop from 1995 till 2004 that was NOT a WRX has a non-functional hoodscoop. 1991-1994 turbo legacies had scoops. 199?-2005 wrx have scoops that work 2005 Legacies have functional hoodscoops. Although, the 91-94 turbo legacies didnt have an intercooler so they also were kinda non-functional!- What MPG do You Get in your 2.2L AWD?
reddevil replied to 95LEGOBW's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX20 mph when lucky and freeway driving. 12 when heavy boost. But I am also running 370 cc injectors when the ECU thinks I have 270 cc injectors. I used to get 25 ish .- Gen-1 Population?
Guy down the street from me has two coupes, a brat and a wagon, all 76-79.- I got a laugh from the dealer parts guy
U-pull it axles are $30-$40 each. Currently at the Foster road U-Pull-It, there are about 20 axles available. Whenever I go there, I see axles pulled and just sitting there. I have gotten a few that way without getting greasy!- Is this possible!?!?!?!?!?!?! need help fast..
reddevil replied to 98legacywv's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI have a 1990 2.2 Sometimes I check the oil and get nothing, or really low, so I stick in a quart. then the next time I check it is about 2 quarts to high. I still havent figured out why it does this. I have rebuilt the motor twice so I supposedly know how to check oil levels.......- Have you seen this insane gl-wagon video?
Sorry if this was already posted but I had to spread this video http://www.shift-lock.net/oilcover/Doomwagon.wmv- Fuel Injectors
reddevil replied to wildish's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXUsed injectors are about $5 at a U-pull yard. And they tend to be easy to find because they certainly are not an "upgrade" to other cars.- Anyone ever Turboed their N/A EJ22 ?
reddevil replied to Brett_j's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI am the guy that SC the 1990 2.2. First off, I spent $2000 or so plus alot of time. If you followed my threads, then you would save alot of time. But...... You need 370 cc injectors, better fuel pump, rrfpr of some sort, AFC of some sort AND the aluminum MAF sensor off of the 90-91 manual NA or the 91-94 turbo models. plus other bits. I am running about 7 psi and managed 152 whp and 160 torque with bad fuel pressure and running on 3 1/2 sparkplugs (didnt realize one plug wire wasnt on tight enough.- Anybody supercharged their gen1 legacy?
reddevil replied to dynamiclegacy's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThe plug was firing, just probably not great.- Anybody supercharged their gen1 legacy?
reddevil replied to dynamiclegacy's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXAnother update. I finally took it to the dyno. Turns out I did the dyno run on basically 3 plugs with the 4th having the plug wiring just resting on top of the plug. I also had a horribly clogged fuel sock in the tank that when replaced, allowed the fuel pressure to jump 10 psi. So basically I would safely add almost 10 hp and torque to the dyno numbers. I am getting about 20 mpg (unless I am tracking it, then about 12). Since I solved the misfiring issue, the wagon has been running pretty well and I am damn proud of it. Of course now I need to figure out how to get more boost out of it!- Wheel Bearing Removal :O)
reddevil replied to chevylefty's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYeah you do. And removal of the bearing race can be a biotch. If it doesnt easily press out, you may have to do some serious heating and cooling combined with some serious sledgehammering. Took me awhile to get mine out but once it was out, then I had no problems.- Anybody supercharged their gen1 legacy?
reddevil replied to dynamiclegacy's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYeah. Me. Before Intercooler after intercooler I have since improved the SC to AWIC connection but don't have an uploaded picture currently. This is on a 2.2 1990 block with 225k. Running 7 psi starting at 2000rpm and rises to 9-10 psi near 6000rpm. Upgraded the fuel pump, injectors, rrfpr, AWIC, 7.25" crank pulley, no power steering, half done upgraded exhaust. Pretty fast, this 1990 wagon is faster uphill (more torque I suspect) to 100 than a stock EVO.- Mercedes Eaton M-62 supercharger
I installed the AWIC on October 16th, my 37th birthday! I also then reinstalled my 7.25" crank pulley. Since then I have upgraded my injectors to 370cc and have a near perfect supercharger to AWIC plumbing so now my psi starts at 6 psi at 2000 rpm and climbs up to almost 9 psi at 6000 rpm. Other than ****ty milage due to the large injectors the car run really great and plenty (but still not enough) of power. I am putting down somewhere in the 150 wheel hp range which is about 200-220 crank hp. Not back for a stock 130 hp motor! When I get the money and time I will be boosting higher still, about 10-12 psi which will make me a stock WRX eater.- Mercedes Eaton M-62 supercharger
The clutch style, as pictured, does not need a bypass valve. When off, the rotors simply spin freely as air is sucked passed them. The size smaller than the m62 is the m45 but you can use the m62 and control boost my spinning the supercharger slower than a 2.25-1 pulley ratio which is what it is designed for. I am getting a 6-9 psi through an intercooler into a 2.2 while at a 2-1 pulley ratio. The v-belt wont cut it for gription over probably 3-4 psi of boost. Use Dayco Polycog belts. You should intercool over 3-4 psi. I am at about 150 whp and 200-220 chp at 6-9 psi (psi rises somewhat in relation to boost in my wagon).- Mercedes Eaton M-62 supercharger
