I have an 01 Outback Wagon, same drive train as your Forester. 2.5l, Automatic, AWD, etc... I have a 97 Coleman Laredo Pop Up (bought it new). It's the smallest Coleman made for that year. It's about an 8ft box, weighs (unloaded) about 850-900 Lbs, sleeps 6 people. We've had it loaded and the car too, and have been camping at least a couple of times a year with it since 01. Never had any trouble with towing. I do regular maintenance on the car, so I've never been worried about issues coming up on the road while towing. We do have AAA too. When we bought the Coleman, we did a lot of research on all of them, and found Coleman/Fleetwood to be the best built and VERY fair priced. I'd buy another tomorrow if I had to. I've kept the crank up system maintained every year. I had a friend who didn't, had to pay $750 to have it replaced on a 20 year old trailer. Our dealer only charges $59.00 to do their check over of tires, bearings and the crank system. Oh yeah, that includes the wonderful New York State Inspection cost too. Oh yeah, I don't have any brakes on the trailer either. No trouble ever stopping either... Any other questions, drop me a PM...

I believe that the Die Hard's are made by Exide. I know that the last battery I bought was a NAPA, top of the line, also made by Exide. Great Battery. So if the Die Hard is made by Exide, it should be the same battery. AC Delco are good batteries as well. My mom has a 96 Olds Ciera with the original AC Delco battery, Still starting like a champ. I didn't see anyone mention Interstate. Had 1 of those too, another good one in my book. Enough about that, On to the next subject...

When we first bought our 01 we started using 89 Octane. When gas started getting expensive, we dropped back to 87. I always attributed the pinging with the car getting spoiled on the 89 and just not liking the 87. It's been pinging pretty regularly (with no ill effects, hopefully) until now... I changed the oil this weekend and put in a quart of Rislone. I've used Rislone before in my old Dodge Dakota, it pinged regularly using 87 also. The Rislone seemed to have helped in it, so I tried it on the Sube. No more pinging. I also used some fuel injector cleaner, but I've already gone through the tank I added cleaner to. I still don't have the pinging, so I'm suspecting the Rislone did the trick. Any thoughts from the "gallery"

I say NAPA... Their oil filters are Wix, their Oil is Valvoline, never had a problem with their Echlin Ignition parts. I just basically rebuilt a 94 GMC Sonoma (sat for 2 1/2 years, bad starter, it's my father in law's, he's got 5 other's to drive). I used a couple of local Independant shops and NAPA and found that the local, independant shops prices were for the most part BETTER than the discount chains (Auto Zone, Advance) Good Luck and remember, you always get what you pay for...

I did the hatch handle on my 93 Legacy Wagon. Part was $15.12 at the local dealership, with tax, about $17.00, something like that. It was well worth it. Installation was simple too. Just have to pop the hatch, remove the lower interior piece (about 10 plastic screws) and look for the 2 bolts of the existing handle, pop off a cotter pin and whalla, a new handle, and no more having to make sure that it is pushed back when you go to close the hatch. It took me only about 20 minutes from start to finish, but was worth it.

I now have to recind these last comments of mine... Saturday, phone rang, guy wanting to see my 93... Did the standard looking it over, listening to it run, playing with all the accessories. Said he'd call me back on Monday, but he's interested. Well not even thinking about it, phone rang on Monday, Same guy, Still got the car... Came over and drove it about 10 minutes. Pulled back in to the driveway and handed me $1600 (had it advertised for $1700) and I drove it home for him. Now I'm heading to the dreaded NY DMV to turn in the plates... Last time I turned in plates, they charged me a buck. Let's see if that has gone up too...

Tell me about it... I've been trying to sell my 93 with 202k, and everyone laughs at me. I guess I'll be keeping it, since it seems that I only know it's true value... It still runs and drives really nice. I too was looking for a 93-94 with around 100k. No such luck. I saw a 90 Legacy L AWD Wagon advertised for $1295 with 131k. Must have been a good one, it was gone the VERY NEXT DAY !!!

as you slide under the front of the car, you'll notice 3 plastic screws and a rubber flapped handle. Remove those screws and mollys and pull out toward the front of the car and you'll get much easier access to the oil filter, and you won't have all the old oil sitting on that shroud burning off for the next month or so... Just a tip from a fellow owner of an 01 OBW. That removable shroud was the greatest thing since my 94 S10 pickup, that had the oil filter directly over the main front frame rail. I positioned my drainpan accordingly, and no oil in the pan... ($*@(#*!!) it had all drained out beyond the frame rail... When I removed the oil filter, low and behold, a plastic cup with a diverter that wouldn't allow the oil to get all over the frame... Only changed the oil on that once anyway... Sold it shortly after I found out that the rear springs were collapsed...

I broke down last week in my 93... Had the wife call AAA, and I told her to tell them to send a flatbed. If a regular truck was sent, it would be refused. My wife said when she said it was a Subaru, the guy she was talking to immediately said "You need a flatbed, it's All Wheel Drive" She and I both were amazed, but then again, as someone said here before, that's their job, they should know this stuff... So in essence, I've had a pleasant experience with AAA, recently... Even the tow driver was nice, only had to wait 15 mins... He picked up the car before my wife picked me up...

My 01 OBW has it, been living with it since we bought it... (Jan 01) It goes away when warm. Not too concerned yet... We just baby it until it warms up... Nice slow take off's, etc.. Not worth the hassle of haveing to deal with the dealer, especially if it won't do any damage... I lived with an 88 Dodge Dakota that had a 2.2L 4 banger in it with bad wrist pins... Same kinda sound... I saw several Omni's, Horizons, Turismos and let's not forget the good ole' K Car with over 100k and knocking wrist pins... Scaravan's and Voyager's too. Boy Chrysler really overused that motor didn't they...

I too love our Legacy's... Outback really... I have a 93 Wagon and an 01 OBW. Love them both. Unfortunately having to sell the 93, eventhough I love it. It's been a great car, will miss it terribly. But with building a new house, and another baby on the way, it's time to sell. Need the extra cash right now to get the house going (finally) With having a work van, I have a daily driver for work, and it (the 93) sits most of the daytime and with the construction starting soon, it will most definately be in the way. But I'm already getting the spies out for another when the house project is all done. This time an automatic, so the wife can use it too. Guess I get to drive the OBW more often though... Only way to look at it I guess.. Thanks for letting me "testify"

The $125 was for the diagnostic fee and the wires. The wireset was $35.49 I thought that an NGK plug, no matter where you buy it, is an NGK plug... I know I didn't remove any washers before installing them into the block. Most plugs I've installed have had washers on them, and couldn't be removed, without a cutting tool of some sort... The car runs great now... I might just leave them the way they are and save the wires for my 01 OBW, if they are the same set...
