Importance of upstream and downstream o2 sensors
matt167 replied to Sube Buggy's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXSubaru prior to 2005, the rear O2 does nothing to the fuel trim or open/ closed loop. All it does is light the CEL and throw P0440 if somethings amiss with the cat.. Subaru after 2005 will alter the fuel and ignition map to attempt to correct the catalyst efficency if it's off.. Using an anti fouler on 2005+ electronics would be a bad idea.. My 2001 Forester has had an anti fouler in the Cat since about a week after I got it ( burned out cheap aftermarket cat ). No ill effects and CEL hasn't come on

Tire options
matt167 replied to ThosL's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThat's super expensive for a 50k mile tire depending on the tire brand/ model and it sounds like it's an el- cheepo for an all in one type deal.. Consider this. a 4 wheel allignment is only $60-80 in most places, and a production tire shop is NOT where you get a good allignment. tires your wanting are in the $80 range from there.. Most places offer free mounting but charge $5-20 for balance. $10 for road hazard ( yes, it's not really free. you can usually opt out despite the sales pitch ). Walmart or Sams gets what is called "Priority" tires.. This is a tire made specifically for them. They buy a set amount, and that's what gets made.. They are generally less expensive versions of a tire that's in the regular lineup.. ( Goodyear for Walmart, Michellin for Sams Club ) I would buy 4 new tires from Walmart. Go for the Douglas All Season, Douglas Performance or the Douglas Xtra Trac II ( if there still available, they have been discontinued due to tooling changes ). The Xtra Trac used to retail for $57 IIRC. You would be out the door approx $250+ tax on 4 tires with lifetime rotate and balance

97 Legacy wagon
matt167 replied to ThosL's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXSea foam is alcohol, water and pale oil. Its a decarbonizer that should be added via vac line or thru the intake or carb. It was never designed for gas or oil tho the marketers put it on the can. Originally it was designed to decarbon outboard motors, hence seafoam

Preventing overheating in 2.5 Subarus
matt167 replied to ThosL's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXNo because the Turbo engines are essentially the same head bolt/ cam arrangement as the EJ25D.. The bolts are different, but not in diamater given the threads on all Subaru blocks are the same.

damn. Small oil seep. look like head gasket.....options?
matt167 replied to vtwinjunkie's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXJust keep a check on it every oil change. it could be valve cover gaskets too.. Make sure it's got fresh coolant in it with Subaru coolant conditioner and run it.

97 Legacy wagon
matt167 replied to ThosL's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYou need 4 tires. No tires are exactly the same diameter, so regardless of tread depth. If there mismatched, they need replaced.. I wouldn't do Viva 3 tires, there over rated, cheapened Eagle RSA. I would do Douglas Xtra trac II if you can get them, or the Douglas All season which is the Xtra Trac replacement.. $9 lifetime rotate and balance, free.mounting. You can't beat a good TLE.

Fuse for switching from AWD to Front wheel.
matt167 replied to Mary32's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXthat's what it's there for.. The spare, or smaller tires should be put on the rear and the fuse placed for FWD only

Help lining up crankshaft and cams on 99 Legacy 2.2 motor
matt167 replied to LeolaPA's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIf it runs ok, just run it like that. Yea some of the valves probably bent but if it's not missing or throwing a code it will be just fine... My brother ran a 16V Kia engine that had a broken belt, and it ate all the valves since he said it sounded like marbles when it let go... But stuck a belt back on that car and it still ran ok for another 50k miles.

Rims patterns question
matt167 replied to minimac1010's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX2004 STI is the ONLY USDM year they were 5x100. starting in 2005 they went to 5x114.5 ( common Ford 5 lug actually 5x4.5 ).. Japanese and other markets had STI's with gold rims before USDM so gold BBS wheels that fit may still be obtainable thru the right channels, but pricey.

Used vehicle screening
matt167 replied to ThosL's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI'd grab that one, it wont last.. Cel can be filler neck, or broken wires. Both are no big deal..

Preventing overheating in 2.5 Subarus
matt167 replied to ThosL's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXNot really. The thermostat is going to regulate the engine temp. The cooling system can cool the engine a lot more if a different thermostat was there.. Your thinking along the lines of air cooled where the cooling is variable based on load and ambient temp

Baja tubo change tips please?
matt167 replied to lumpy53's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIf the turbo came apart, the engine might have ate it.. Turbo is a couple hundred for a good one, and a couple hours to swap doing it in no hurry. But if the engine ate turbo bearings, then the price and damages go up

Preventing overheating in 2.5 Subarus
matt167 replied to ThosL's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThe easiest way, don't buy one or expect it to blow and swap a 2.2l when it does

Forester hatch replacement..
matt167 replied to matt167's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXInteresting. see to me, there visually the same. I know the colors and interior changed, but didn't know about hatch changes. So it might be easier to cut a patch out of another hatch and fix mine. I have a MIG welder, and could do that in a few hours

Forester hatch replacement..
One of the things that has bothered me on my '01 Forester is the rear hatch is rusted out where the wiper goes thru. someone stuffed it full of bondo but it looks like crap, and leaks I'm sure, tho I have never noticed water I had to replace the hatch latch due to it being rusted solid.. I took the latch from a '98 Forester that was same color, sadly I did not have the means to get a hatch home that day and they crushed it before I got back to get it.. Same yard is having an upcomoing sale soon, so I may just have to grab one. They are normally $65, but on sale could be as low as $30.. Where are the connectors that go to the hatch? I know the hatch/ hinges are straight forward.. And will the hatch fit into the car with the rear seats folded? I don't have a truck anymore

2005 Subaru Legacy Engine Swap to WRX?
matt167 replied to O.win246's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI think a WRX EJ205 puts out less hp than a B spec Legacy GT's EJ255.. it's a swap that would be backwards unless you did a JDM swap with a V7+ EJ207. You would still need a USDM wiring harness to make it all work

2005 Subaru Legacy Engine Swap to WRX?
matt167 replied to O.win246's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIt is a 2.5L, just a sohc non turbo.. You could swap in a 2005 or newer wrx setup into it with the wiring harness, and need to notch the crosmember but you can get a Legacy GT spec B and have the same thing.

2002 wrx
matt167 replied to dp213's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXRight, and a stock used STI up pipe won't be expensive at all.. STI's were exempt from the strict emissions crap since every manufacture was allowed 1 model to exempt back then.. You could use one off any '02-'07 STI and it will be a catless up pipe

2013 Crosstrek Rebuilt title -- what does that mean?
matt167 replied to unibrook's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXCould be deployed airbags. They are one thing that insurance does not like to deal with due to liability. That's not a set in stone thing, but an at- best scenario.. It's been totaled tho, that's for sure with a rebuilt title, get a carfax. it will tell the tale

2002 wrx
matt167 replied to dp213's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIt's an '02, so you can use an 18mm spark plug anti fouler, drill it out and put the rear O2 sensor in it. the ECU does not use that sensor for anything else except tripping a catylist inefficency code
