  1. I'd keep it context with what other motors are going for. Around here, ej22s from junkyards go for around 4-500bucks. And that comes with somekind of warranty. But I was able to find an ej18 on craigslist for half that. So I took it even thought its less power because it was relatively allot cheaper. In otherwards, if the price of an ej18 is approaching what an ej22 goes for, its too much. because for the most part, the ej22 is more universal and moer power.
  2. ok yea I think it travels about 3-4 inches so its probably good then. I think I'll go for this one off the parts car rather than buy one. haha my concern is putting in an axle that will clack...but my experience tells me that paying for a new one doesn't really guarantee me that much anyway.
  3. my 92 loyale gets 28-31mpg on freeway, a little less in town crap...wrong section! my bad, you new car people have at it!
  4. I took the knuckle off the car for myself, and I took out the axle at the same time. So I can't speak to how much it moved on the car as its already off.
  5. So like the title says, how for should an inner cv joint extend? I got a torn boot and loud clack coming from my front drivers side CV so I'm looking to swap it out. A guy down the road has a parts car with an axle that looks intact, but the inner joint really can move in and out allot. I don't recall the reman axles I've used in the past have this much play but maybe I didn't notice... Just trying to decide if I should throw in the one from the parts car, or if I should just go ahead and buy a new one...
  6. Yea sorry not tryin to be rude, just checking all the bases here. I think your thought about being on a slope can explain the high oil level stuff. You already got the motor outta the car on a stand? Or was this before when you were doing the clutch?
  7. And just to be sure, you wiped off the dipstick before reading right? After running the car oil can work its way up the dipstick. Just saying, cuz if you only added 4quarts then I don't know why you have a bunch more than that. Unless you didn't drain your old oil before you added the new stuff... I'm still interested to see how the timing belts and disty are looking...
  8. might be way off, but since it seems to be when your slowing down rather than at higher speeds, could it be warped rotors?
  9. This is for an ea82, but its pretty similar and the video is helpful. Heres a link to a thread where its discussed explicitly for ea81 http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/topic/74755-wheel-bearings-a-photo-essay/
  10. I just did this job last weekend. You can do it and you don't need a press. Just clean up the old bearing, and used it do drive in the new one. Check this video out I went the extra distance to take the whole knuckle out. I trusted myself more to be careful and keep it clean bringing it inside rather than doing it on the car.
  11. My loyale died while driving down the road recently turned out to be in distributor. I'd pull the cap off that and look there. you could also have broke a timing belt maybe?
  12. Well I may have lucked out on this one! I found a pinhole leak in a hose coming off the back of the intake. Swapped it out this morning. Hopefully that's the only place I'm loosing coolant. Not seeing any bubbles now...can a leaky hose explain bubbles before? Note that I saw bubbles coming up from a near empty coolant reservoir after driving a bit... I'm really crossing my fingers on this one! I'll keep an eye on it and report back. And not sure which felpro gaskets I used. Tried to search for an original thread I posted when I did the hg a while back but the usmb search function can't handle it.
  13. How does the surface of drum look? I had a drum brake explode and pieces that broke off gouged up the drum. If it is, and the hardware is all good, you might be fine with just pads and replacing the brake cylinder. If the leak was because of a split boot, you might even just be able to replace those. What else would you anticpate needing to replace?
  14. But I used the felpro gaskets, your not supposed to need to retorq the head bolts i thought...or is that optimistic advertizing? I'll check the radiator cap for head gasket material, but I'm still unclear how to distinguish whether its a head gasket or intake gasket. Haha by the time you get the camtowers off your just about there to doing the headgaskets themselves...I see some white smoke coming out the exhaust but not a ton...
  15. Thanks for the replies. Coolant is not getting pushed into the overflow as far as I can tell. When I checked there was only a tad bit of coolant in the overflow bottle at all, and bubbles were coming up into. I also noticed that the coolant was really bubbly in the radiator too.
  16. Hey there I got a 92 spfi loyale with ea82. I just recently started loosing coolant. Checked the coolant reservoir and getting the slow stream of bubbles. I know this is one of the classic signs of a head gasket failure. But I just did the head gaskets last summer using the felpro kit. I also thought I remember reading that intake manifold gasket failure can result in the slow stream of bubbles too. However, I didn't learn about the importance of using OEM intake manifold gaskets, so I used the cheap ones included with the felpro kit, which leads me to suspect them rather than the headgaskets. Is this wishful thinking? How can I distinguish which has failed? For what its worth, no mixing of oil and coolant. Just loss of coolant. I'm really not wanting to do the intake manifold gasket, haha but compared to doing the headgaskets again its a pretty attractive option.
  17. Thanks everybody for your input. I'll get out the multimeter and do some testing tomorrow and report back. And scooner your right I do have the electronic seatbelts...Did it end up just being a relay swap? How did you take care of it?
  18. The weird thing is how sometimes it holds a charge and sometimes it doesn't. Like friday, it wouldn't start for me without a jump to drive home even though I had driven it 15min to work that morning. After sitting all weekend, it started right up today... So my thought to swap batteries out won't tell me what I hoped with it being all spontenous and what not.
  19. hmmm haha well I just checked its 5years old so that could have something to do with it. I'll swap in the battery from my gl that I know is good and run it today. See if it holds the charge or not when its time to go home.
  20. Hey there gotta new problem with my 92 spfi loyale wagon. Something seems to be draining the battery. The other day, I couldn't get the car to start. When the drivers door was open I could hear a clicking sound from the rear drivers side of the car. Kind of like a relay going crazy, lots of quick clicks then a pause then a bunch more clicks. When I closed the door it stopped?? Kinda weird. But I think it might be something draining power when the cars off. Its my first electrical problem to work out. What are the first basic things I should look at? Thanks! joe

  22. theres a dude on CL in white salmon washington parting out an xt6
  23. yea thanks for all the replies. It was the screw holding on the rotor and he was able to take care of it. Haha the loyale has been running flawless for so long, poor dude just got unlucky with it. good thing I got him hooked up with gloyale on the phone and got him back on the road quick!
