  1. totally the wet side although its not bad today. clutch went out on the way over, managed to get it to the parents to use their garage though! ya its kinda a crazy little piece, could have just fallen in through the access hole which has never been covered since Ive had the car. Kinda looks like the outer race of a bearing. its got a groove down the middle. thanks B. Ill hit ya up sometime this summer. My baby needs to grow a few inches:grin:
  2. Im doin the clutch in my 84 Gl wagon and In the procecess of cleaning the bell housing I found a small round ring broken into four pieces. Its got a small lip on the inside and is about as big around as my pinky finger. Any ideas as to what it is, and do I need to replace it? Seemed to be working just fine before, minus the slipping clutch which was worn down to the rivets. also its been a long time since I did my last clutch, Is the pressure plate supposed to have a gap before you tighten the nuts or should it sit flat on the flywheel before tightening. There was about a 3/8" gap before i tightened the bolts, now its flat against the flywheel. thanks, Brian
  3. Yeah Im alive. An I really miss the sube world. quarter and a half left of school till Im back! I wish I could find the pic from the back going down that rock. Sorry for the talkin. More pics. Thats a pretty nutty WRX!
  4. well then the guy told me the wrong year cause its mpfi. An ej would be sweet but ...$$$$ not so much.
  5. Or should i ditch both engines and go ej...probably.
  6. ok I have a good 92 ea82 MPFI and an 85 ea82 carbed wagon with a bad motor. The guy Im getting it from said its all fubar inside. Should I just swap out the good block from the MPFI making a good carbed motor, or put the whole MPFI in the 85 wagon, which is in beautiful shape which is why I wanna save it. So tear the whole engine apart or rewire? I think it might be less headache swaping the blocks but it would beal cool to have 92 MPFI in an 85 wagon. Any thoughts? This will be my first large project as well. Thanks Brian
  7. ya for real. We just let it evaporate out, worked a lot better after that. Turned out his plugs were loose and really dirty.
  8. Its an Acura integra. He sprayed down the engine with the hose the other day. It was then running rough. He said he thought there might be water in the disty so I told him some WD-40 would fix his problem. I gues he sprayed it in the disrtibutor its self. Now it wont run. I didnt think it would cause problems. Any thoughts? Thanks, Brian
  9. I suppose so. Just wasn't sure. Thanks how did you get so old noah?
  10. I missed a keg last year?! oh well, I did miss going though so Im gonna try to make it this year.
  11. Hi everyone been out of the sube world for a while. Im picking up an 85 for $100 with a bad engine and there is an engine on craigslist for 500 but its from a 91 loyal. I would have to swap the wiring harness too right? I dont really want to do that. If I was going to go through the trouble I would stick an EJ in there (which would be really cool.) Has anyone had luck with those cheap import motors? I cant seem to find a good distributor. Im looking for cheap here (aren't we all.) Ive been keeping my eyes on ebay craigslist, and the board. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks Brian
  12. Well its been in the teens and below occasionally. My headlights decided to not work. Ended up being a bad ground. Water pump froze cause I didnt do a flush like an idiot, and there was to much water in the system. My windshield wipers suck and only one of my wiper fluid squirters works. Oh ya dead batteries too. but I have four new siped snow tires=not getting stuck
  13. Thankyou for the ideas. I ended up changeing the filters. I also bought some carb cleaner. They did help I think. Another possibility is that the old gas was still in the line. I added some new gas. So between those things it starts much better now. The things that Im still curious about is that it usually starts right after I stop cranking it. In other words it starts after I release the key in the ignition and it returns to the "run" position. But for now Im happy. I just hope I can make it to the other side of the state in it.
  14. once I get it started its fine but I have to crank it for a long time. I called a subaru mechanic in my area and he said the throtlebody was worn out and there was nothing I could do about it. He also said there was no place that I could buy a new carb but I know thats not true. I was wondering if there is some sort of choke adjustment that would help it start better. It acts like there is no fuel to start it but after cranking for a while it will start then run fine. I got the car a while ago for free. It barely ran then. I re-attached some vacume tubes and it ran. Thanks for any ideas or comments Brian
  15. Thanks for the info. I will be doing a compression test today.
  16. I dont really like the bubbly oil thats sitting in the air filter of my carbureted 85 ea82. The car runs well untill 3500 rpm in 3rd gear and 3000 in 4th gear and I harldy get any power in 5th gear. It made the drive over snoqualamie pass a challenge. I really dont know what the problem is. Head gasket? oh and my ea81 84 gl wagon has a really hard time starting. I have to crank it forever multiple times and sometimes it starts then it runs great. Any ideas on that would be great too. thanks Brian
  17. Gosh it was hard to find my old pictures. But heres one. Zap this is the mud pit you told me not to drive through. Figured Id throw this one up just for fun
  18. well good to know. My grandpa has a an 83 vanagon and needs some more gusto for going up hills and such. My grand parents like to travel with it and want something reliable. Thanks, Brian
  19. I was wondering if there has been an ea82 conversion done, is it possible? Thanks Brian
  20. looks good. Ill be in school but whateve. Yes its a family event. Um here is a quote from the site "The Trail Jamboree is a great family event. It offers something for everyone!"
  21. Providing I get a steering linkage in time Ill be there for the meeting in northgate at 10 am. I will have a CB. CH. 5 sounds like. My cell phone was stolen and Im too cheap to buy a new one. so its the ol' 10-4 for me See ya there(I hope) Brian
  22. Ok I swapped my PK lift from my 91 loyal w/power steering into my 85 GL without power steering. All the blocks where fine and swapped over but The last thing I did was the steering linkage and it doesnt fit. The linkage that came with my lift is too long for the 85 w/manual steering, because the spline and U-joint that comes out of the steering rack is longer than the one in my 91 with the PS. So am I just doing something wrong or is there a diffrent linkage for the PS vs. the non-PS? If it is different, does someone have one they could ship to me real fast like? Thanks Brian
