nipper replied to ysong's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYou need to remove the cowel cover (haynes manual) but it is only a three step procedure after that, you can do it yourself. nipper

93 Legacy AWD Non-Turbo *almost* Overheating
nipper replied to stevenbriggs's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXActually that is nothing out of line for buying a used car. All those items are maint or wear tiems. Assuming you resealed the engine with the timing belts (you did do that i hope) you shouldnt have a problem till the next timing belt change. nipper

Abrupt Shifting
nipper replied to Lawsonmh15's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThere are two of these threads by differnt people floating around, so i forget who ive said what too. Best case scenario is tired fluid and some gum. Worse case scenario is internal. Usually a weak pump is a tim lag shifting from r to d. nipper

nipper replied to nipper's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXhehehe actually i do . Looks like im grounded for the rest of the year, as there is motor nerve damage, May mean i can never drive a clutch for a long time, but once my back heals i can ride a bike. and bycycle, which would give me an outlet. i SOOOO want to go work on my car again, i cant even replace my speakers myself. i've been getting really depressed so forgive me if i get a little short at times. Anyone on LI have an SVX to see if i can actually get in and out of one without resorting too ANyone in the oceanside NY area? i SWEAR i can smell gear oil but i cant find the leak. i just want to know if im nuts or not. well more nuts then i was. nipper

When i drive it later im going to see if there is a delay on the fly too. The one time i want the cilly CEL to come on nipper

missing and much lower MPG! help!
nipper replied to Zefy's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXi was getting to a bad plug wire, just wanted more information . i dont know if the ecu will throw a code for a dead plug wire, since technically its not a mis (timed) fire, but a no fire. nipper

press gas hard no go
My turn to post a thread My 1997 OBW automatic 2.5L 182K on the car. Today i stomped on the gas from a dead stop.... and nothing. This happened for less then a second, but still it was very disturbing. I've noticed it do this on highway on ramps, and at traffic lights. If the car is moving, stomp on it, and it goes. No check engine light. Any ideas? nipper

missing and much lower MPG! help!
nipper replied to Zefy's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXEven without the CEL on get the car to an autzone and see if they can pull the codes, if any. ALso check it while the car is running, and even better if it can be done while its missing. If it's an intimetant problem it may not trip a code. Also the puter isnt the end all to solve a cars issues, its just another tool. Its going to be due for a timing belt (105K i think), The belt either breaks or jump a tooth, The timing belt is cogged so when it does slip, it actually jumps. Now that your confused on that. Under what conditions does the car miss. Is the car hot or cold or all the time. Is it more likely to do it in the morning or doesnt it matter. Is it missing under deceleration, acceleration, steady speed or all the time.Is this an automatic or manual. DId this start all of a sudden after getting a tank of gas? nipper

Need to Test Ignitor/Ignition Pack
nipper replied to LanceGillette's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThis is sounding more like bad wires. i really should assume nothing before i start posting, my bad. How old are the ignition wires? Do you park the car outside at night? i cant really ask you to do things to diagnose since its in the shop. nipper

93 Legacy AWD Non-Turbo *almost* Overheating
nipper replied to stevenbriggs's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXInternally clogged. Many years of gunk and electrochemical corrosion inside a radiator will cause the tiny water passages to clog. The walls are really thin so i would not recomend having the radiator boiled out when a new one can be had for around 100.00 from radiator.com (i by all my radiators through them and they are good people). nipper

Abrupt Shifting
nipper replied to Lawsonmh15's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXAlmost everyone here on the list has had the first tranny oil change over 100,000 mils, some like me at 180,000 (previous owner confirmed it was never changed) miles with no problems. The trannies arent like the old trannies where it was pure suicide to change the fluid after 80K. On any other tranny i would change this opinion (would have to research it ), but here its been proven the sooby trannies hold up to it very well, and usually thank you for it. nipper

93 Legacy AWD Non-Turbo *almost* Overheating
nipper replied to stevenbriggs's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIve seen more then a few blown HG, and the bubbles are really hard to mistake (sometimes it cna be more like vomiting). Buts like i said, i dont thnk he has a bad HG, he has a bad radiator. nipper

bottom end dilemma
nipper replied to nicuso's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIts a good idea to change the oil. Ifd the blown HG was discovered like most, by over heating, the oil has may have been over heated too, and your bottom end will thank you. Are you saying burnt or bent exhaust valve? nipper

'05 outback rear wiper
nipper replied to pBIIKS's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXits a factory installed feature (in north america), since there isn't a single one that doesnt have on in 2005 that i know of. What makes it look like a dealer installed option to you? The balde can be replaced, i dont know if the arm is a dealer only part. i've always gotten blades a retailer. nipper

93 Legacy AWD Non-Turbo *almost* Overheating
nipper replied to stevenbriggs's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYup, with the car cold, remove the radiator cap, let it wamr up (it will overflow when the thermostate opens) and look for bubbles in the coolant. If there are no bubles, and you swear the system is free of air, my next stop would be radiator.com If the fans are working, all the blades are there, and they are spinning fast, and the ac is off.... nipper

93 Legacy AWD Non-Turbo *almost* Overheating
nipper replied to stevenbriggs's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXok so we have a new water pump, new thermostae, correct 50/50 antifreeze mix, no air in the cooling system, no bubbles in the coolant, cooling fans all work, and a new radiator cap? and you also have plenty of heat when the car is running hot? nipper

93 Legacy AWD Non-Turbo *almost* Overheating
nipper replied to stevenbriggs's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXif you have no bubbles in the radiator (hg) and have reallyu good heat when the car gets hot, the next step would be to make sure there is no air in trapped in the cooling system. If there is no air in the cooling system, and no bubblkes, then i would look at the radiator. Will the car overheat while idleing nipper
