  1. Hello, Yes your assumption is correct, the front pulley seals often leak and most will point you to the oil pump as it's the easy answer. the pulley boss also wears but can be repaired by sleeving back to original specs, if you do not address this no amount of seals will help. l have done many of these repairs for customers, most of which have been told to replace oil pumps, boy, if l only had a dollar for every time l've heard this, just to be clear, it's rarely the oil pump and nearly always the seal/pulley. hope this helps, good luck. 2. My work Brat has 286k on the speedo, then the speedo drive gear in the gearbox crapped out, that was a year ago, don't have a clue how many now but l can tell you it's still on the original motor, regular oil changes, every 2000k with filters and keeping her in tune has allowed this motor to remain vertually untouched, a couple of alternators and a carb is all l can remember going wrong with it, cv's on the other hand are a different story. 3. have you looked at a Gregorys manual, (no. 501), it covers models from 79 - 94, 1600 + 1800, 2 & 4 wheel drive, it does distinguish between EA-81 & 82. hope this helps. Redskin
  4. l have towed over 2000lbs often in my work Brat and recommend you buy a bigger car to tow as not only is it the best way to destroy your mechanicals but as no one else has mentioned this l will, check your towbar mounting holes, these will elongate causing your towbar to drop, l know this because mine did and the reason is the rear frame is not built to carry this type of weight, Redskin
  5. Yes, l have experienced the same problems with these carbs with an 82 wagon and an 87 Brat. l found that changing the accelerator pump made no difference, the problem appears to be overall carb wear and the cure is to throw the offending item as far as you can and fit a Weber 32/36 DGEV. If your car is correctly tuned and this problem remains check the output from the fuel pump, these also have been known to play up, hope this helps. Redskin
  6. Thanks for your reply Will, yes this is possible and please forward your postal address to my e-mail address, redskin@dodo.com.au, so l can arrange delivery to you. l was impressed by your Brat, it looks like a well used weapon, mine is undergoing a full restoration at the moment but will post photo's soon or as soon as the paint goes on. This one is number 5 for me, why would you want to drive anything else. redskin
  7. Hello Submariners, I am writing from Australia in the hope somebody can help me with info to help me with the restoration of my 89 Brat, yeh, you heard me, 89, we got them new down here until 92-3. First of all some background info on the car, my Brat is not exactly stock, it is fitted with twin carbs, ported and polished heads, lightened flywheel, dual unrestricted exhausts, Bosch electronic coil, 4 wheel disc brakes, 14" wheels, etc, etc and yes she goes like hell unleashed which is where my problem begins. As l am quite fond of windscreens, (they keep bugs out of my beard), can anybody please supply me with a diagram of the rear cage or rollover bar fitted to these to combat body flex. My second question is, how can l get hold of a Brat/FWD sticker for the tail gate, we called them Brumby's down here, hardly a fitting desciption for this devil, so any information would be gratefully received. l can be mailed direct at redskin@dodo.com.au.
