  1. l have one of the 3.7 part time 4wd d/r boxes from an RX sitting in my shed awaiting fitting. From what l could gather these were available on 85/6 RX's here in Aus and run the bigger Turbo cv's as opposed to the standard type 5 speed dr 4wd. So, getting back to the subject at hand, where does the vortex/xt rear disc set-up slot in?
  2. Have you checked out Kiwi Subaru's add for two sets he has for sale on the Ausubaru site. He is offering a set for $350 - 365 delivered to Aus, this is about as cheap as you will get a set and at least worth checking out as the freight is covered.
  3. l got mine from N.Z. the price was very reasonable and they were in very good condition, postage however was quite expensive as the complete set-up is quite heavy so try to factor this in before commiting yourself. They do however make a difference and are well worth the effort.
  4. Thank you, it's your fault, you know it and have admitted as much and although l do feel sympathy for you killing a defenceless animal would only leave you feeling worse once your anger subsides.
  5. Helps Heaps, thanks Ross, This is a replacement turbo for my VF-1 which was air cooled and quite ill so l have nothing to go by and am making the fittings to suit as l go along. by the way, l did look up your recent thread regarding this conversion and the photo's you posted were excellent and very helpful running the top hose, thanks for that.
  6. Can anybody please post pictures of the feed or lower line to a water cooled turbo on a ea-81. l have figured out where the top hose goes and have done a search for these pics but cannot find anything clear. The areas that are of main interest are, where does the supply come from? what does the joint look like, and can l use a standard t piece to connect it? Thanks for any help in advance.
  7. l figured it couldn't be that hard, l do as it happens have a EA-82 turbocharger on the shelf, this also needs a rebuild but is water cooled so with this in mind it's obviously the one to do up. The only problem this presents for me is where the water goes when it leaves the turbo, by that l mean, not the connection but rather, where the hell does this pipe go and what does it attach to and how, any pics or info would be of enormous help to me.
  8. The Turbo unit on my EA-81T has decided to start making a loud horrible grindy type noise as it starts to come on that increases in intensity as the rpm's rise, bugger, l assume this means it's time to either rebuild or replace this thing and am wondering, just how hard is it to rebuild a Turbo unit? or better still, is this a do-able thing from home or does it involve some rediculously expensive machine, anybody know?
  9. Agreed, it should look stock standard from the outside, be that pretty or not and have a firecracker under the hood.
  10. Don't know if you guys can get these over there, (US), but down here, (Aus), We use King aftermarket mainly, some use Lovells or 1 or 2 others. Kings have standard and heavy duty types and are manufactured locally to suit our conditions, (sometimes severe), and are used by rally drivers and serious 4wd'ers, l've never heard of one failing so maybe worth inquiring, you could do alot worse. Sorry if this sounds like an add for Kings, l don't work for them, l just use them like alot of others down here.
  11. Thanks Turbone, l am asking because l was about to recore mine and have been offered a 3 core as a heavy duty replacement but at $100 dollars dearer, ($400.), l am wanting to make sure as one can buy alot of 'Jack' with $100 which l agree might not keep the Brumby very cool but it sure might help the driver.
  12. Can anyone tell me the difference, (if any), between a turbo radiator and a N/A engined EA-81 type, thanks.
  13. Yep thats what l think, they must have the years mixed up as l always thought the EA-81T engine was offered only in 83-4, not 86, they had well and truely been replaced by the EA-82. Anyway, rather than trying to educate the RTA, ( ), on the differences between an 81 and 82, l looked at them and said, " yeah, it's one of them, what you said, thanks for the help," and promptly hung up.
  14. l decided to find out about the history of the motor, (EA-81T), that l fitted to my Brumby recently and was told this by the RTA,(Road traffic authority). it's a 1986 Subaru RX Turbo engine. Excuse me? l thought, it's a bloody EA-81, 86 RX's were 82's. Or were they? Anybody know for sure if Subaru in there infinate wisdom decided to use up any spare 81T's in the L Series, (loyals where you live l think), thanks.
  15. Yes you can fit the standard alternator mount but it also involves using the standard N/A harmonic balancer and water pump, l know this for fact because mine is set up this way. If you want to run power steering you could use the standard double, (not the turbo type), harmonic balancer and you should be able to connect your power steering belt to the outer track. If you list your e-mail address l will post you photo's of my set-up.
  16. Check the wrecking yards that specialise in European cars and somebody will have a set.
  17. Don't know about nuts but if they fit an early Subaru and by the pic it appears they do they will also fit an ea-82 as the stud pattern is the same.
  18. Ok, l'm guessing you have already removed the tie rod end from the steering knuckle, if this is the case, put it back on, crack the locknut on the tie rod and then drop the tie rod end from the knuckle. lt should now unscrew without difficulty.
  19. Loose intake manifold bolts can also cause the manifold gaskets to fail allowing water to enter the inlet ports.
  20. Plenty of them down here and yes they are cool.
  21. Yep, l'll third it, l have a 3.7 d/r 5 speed out of an early RX in my shed, the later ones, (post 87, l think), were 3.9.
