Bad 2.5 in 2007 Subaru Outback
I am looking for all options for a replacement engine for my son's 2007 outback wagon with a standard EJ- 2.5. The block is bad, the head are ok. I know that engines from an outback and legacy work. If someone can confirm which years exactly and do Impreza 2.5's or forester 2.5 blocks work? If so, which years? Thanks in advance.

2006 subaru outback in Atlanta - fixer upper but has potential
A friend of mine has a 2006 Subaru outback with 121,000 miles. It is at a Subaru dealer there and they say it needs rear brakes, brake line repairs, emergency brake failed, some exhaust work and a rear o2 I believe. They gave him the it leaks oil at the head gaskets quote for $3400.00, but they were just replaced two years ago.so I bet they are seeping a little. He did not see any leaks or top off between oil changes in the last 2 years. I think they wanted to sell him a new Subaru, which they did. He did not trade it in and I was going to go rescue it, but it is too far for me.He would take $1500 for it. I wanted to throw this out there to the group before it goes to Facebook marketplace or CL. Anyone out there looking for a pretty clean low mileage fixer upper. It runs really well and and is very clean all around.

Funny Story
Just bought a 2006 Outback Wagon that had bad tailgate wiring. Wires on both sides were broken,so I just replaced the entire harness. Replaced the harness and the circuit that powers up the radio, dome lights etc kept popping as soon as fuse was installed with the car ignition off. Crazy, thought the harness would have taken care of that, but no. Did some reading and some testing and thought, what the hell, pull the radio based on what I was seeing. Well, when the radio came out, it was rattling like a box of nuts and bolts in an empty box. I shook it for a few minutes gently to see what it was and all of the sudden, coins start coming out of the cd slot. .37 later the radio is empty but dead. No more circuit popping. Put in a 05 Radio I had on the shelf in and I am off to the races......with a radio. I have never seen that before. LOL

transmission compatibility?
3Pin replied to sirtokesalot's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThat is a lot of time & $ for a maybe it will work in my opinion. Look at car-part.com and check out compatibility of what you are looking to do. Try to get the same trans code that you have so that it drops right in unless you are into Frankenstein projects. My two cents

1995 Legacy wagon -- name that part...?
3Pin replied to bendecker's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIt should be under the bumper cover and is maybe associated with the charcoal canister. Between the rear wheel well and the bumper. There might be one on each side.

h6 engine swap in 2001 outback
3Pin replied to hm1's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXagree with idosubaru get a low mile JDM and swap it in using your intake and call it a day. an 02 3.0 is a bitch to take apart and put back together.Timing chain, two covers with like a zillion bolts on the front to deal with. You are way ahead with the JDM.
