  1. that was what i was afraid of ive never drilled a broken bolt before. im afraid to drill into the transmission.
  2. ok now i need some help. the transmission i just put in had a rusted out pan witch was why i swapped the pan form the start. the trans i put in had a bolt broken in the corner one of the ones that does not come through the case and out the other side but it never leaked there so i thought it would be ok. the first time i used the rubber gasket and it leaked from the corner with the broken bolt. then i took the pan off and used just rtv copper gasket maker let it dry 30 hours before filling its still leaking from the same corner with the broken bolt. will i ever get it to seal again with this bolt being broken ir will i have to drill it out? im afraid to drill into the transmission casing.
  3. i just took the pan back down and got rid of the stupid rubber gasket used rtv copper gasket maker. do i really need to wait 24 hours to refill with fluid? right now the pan is on but not fully tightened down so the gasket maker will cure a little before tightening fully. will i be able to fill it back up later tonite or do i really need to wait a full 24 hours?
  4. you are correct they were different ratios that is why the diff got swapped too but the diff that is matched to the original trans had a whine the one i installed does not.
  5. the trans diff and driveshaft are in i drove it home but i was stupid and used the rubber gasket that was on the transmission pan i took off and it blew out driving it home now the fluid is leaking out in the driveway from the gasket so tomorrow i get the fun task of getting more trans fluid getting back under there and redoing the pan gasket this time im just going to use the dam rtv gasket maker witch i had but was just lazy. i did swap the trans computer at first but it started throwing the at temp light blinking i plugged the original trans computer back in and the light stopped.
  6. ok i lied one last question. will i need to swap the transmission computer into the outback when i swap the transmission? i did save it and do have it will it make any difference?
  7. Last question how much fluid will I need to refill the legacy transmission? It was drained when I removed it.
  8. not sure if this will help or not the legacy l's transmission has tz102zaaaa-c7 on it the outbacks transmission has tz102z2dba-kf on it.
  9. so im planning to swap the trans and diff on the outback with the trans and diff from the legacy l wagon. the oil pan on the legacy l's transmission has rusted through and leaks will the oil pan from the 98 outbacks transmission fit the legacy l's transmission?
  10. it stopped raining tried to put it in broke the dam thing got mad at myself and went back to the junk yard and got another one. 2nd try worked out and got it installed and working.
  11. i think the teeth are whats broken on mine because i can here the motor turning and skipping on something inside. i got another mast form the yard today i think the motor was bad on the unit because my battery would not run the antenna motor while it would on another car that had something wrong with it and chose not to use that one. it started raining so now the cars out there with he rear taken apart and the antenna ready to come out.
  12. i have actually done what you want to do using over the counter parts. i took my old part into the store and sat there piecing together a few bends and straits until i had the whole section from half way back to the muffler and it cost somewhere around 40 bucks then i took it all to mu uncles and had him weld it all together. the hose clamp is just holding the exhaust mount to the new pipe. here is a picture of that autozone exhaust part isle piping on the car. the bends were cut smaller to fit the area. this car was just scrapped 5 days ago due to the rust and after donating all of the drive train to a newer car.
  13. how can i test a power antenna at the junk yard? what wires on the unit would i have to jump to test it?
  14. i was hoping to find a spot after the door so i wont have to get throgh the door rubber. i was also hoping the wires dont run throgh the ceiling would anyone know if the wires run throgh the ceiling or if they drop down and run along the floor? i have no issues tieing a fused relay in somewhere.
  15. i want to install a set of small fog lights under the rear bumper for extra reverse lights so it really lights up behind the car while reversing. where is the easiest location to get access to the wiring so i can tap into the reverse light wire and extend it down to the new lights?
  16. well i took it apart and re did it and now its very close im going to leave it like that i think its one tooth off on the splines and ill fix it when i decide to replace the rack. already have the new rack just dont feel like doing it yet.
  17. is there any bad effects of just removing the steering wheel and putting it back on strait?
  18. it is a 1998 outback. i think someone replaced the windshield in the past with the wrong one because the heating strips are definitely not there.
  19. i dont think so. i had a 95 and a friend of mine has an 02 both cars are different i think the 02 is wider tail lights are different shape how bad is it can it be bent back? ive done some crazy things with a come along and large hammer.
  20. i do not have a picture of it but i will explain. my car has heated mirrors that button is next to the mirror switch it has heated rear window button on dash it has heated seats 2 buttons near e-brake then it has another button in front of the heated seats with what looks like a heated wiper but my cars window does not have the heated strips in it. the switch lights up if i press it but nothing happens anywhere. is it a switch for heated wiper and someone replaced the window with a non heated version? where would the wires connect to the windshield? im guessing if i wanted this back id have to replace the windshield yes?
  21. abs is fixed. i installed a tone ring and put in a missing abs fuse. for future reference you can cut a tone ring in half and install the 2 halfs and have it work.
  22. well i learned the reason for this sensor code. today i pulled the rotor off to inspect and clean the sensor and i found there was no tone ring at all. the previous owner told me he replaced the drivers side hub im thinking he used a non abs hub or simply forgot to put the tone ring on it.
  23. Dam. Guess I'll have to buy one of those for the outback was really hoping to salvage that one.
