95 Legacy making some weird noises
Hey guys, just picked up a 95 Legacy for a winter beater. Its got a 2.2 with around 115k on it. I noticed yesterday while at idle it is making a weird almost rattling sound. The sound quickly goes away when the car gets up over 1500RPM's. Seems like it just started and I have been driving it for around a week. Also seems to go away when the wheel is turned completely to the left or right. What could this be? There is also a weird whirring sound coming from the rear when driving down the road...What coulod these be? Any help would be appreciated!!

buying (maybe) an '03 Outback....help please!
John, a carfax reprt will give you a better idea on were the car has been and how many owners it has had. Hopefully it was a one owner! Make sure the mechanic drives the car in a figure 8 sequence in a parking lot to check for torque bind and or lurching. Also, make sure the car has 4 matching tires.

Outback Computer
Looking at a 96 Outback 2.2 with 5 speed. The place says that the main computer burned out on a test drive and now will not start and will need to be towed. My question is, would a computer from a 96 2.2 Auto trans fit right in? How difficult and time consuming is this whole process??

98 Outback Tranny engage delay
Hi All! Just got a 99 Outback 2.5 with 95k on it. When shifting into Drive it seems that it takes longer than usual for the tranny to engage into gear. Did a fluid flush and still hasn't done the trick. Also, from time to time the speedomter does not work.Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

2006 Outback Paint issues
jeep5.9litre replied to dirk109's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI agree that it may just be road film. Go to an auto parts store and pick up a claybar and some quick detailer and see if the contaminant will come off with a few swipes of the claybar. You can also try a heavy duty tar and adhesive remover to rub the film off.

89 GL Tranny probs
Skip, I will try all of the above before I put serious consideration to the 5 spd D/R, but if I can get my hands on the tranny and components I will be going that route

89 GL Tranny probs
Well, Id love to do the swap. I just don't have the time to go about doing it. I know I can defintely do it at my shop, but time can be an issue, along with getting the tranny and various parts needed.

89 GL Tranny probs
89 GL with the 3AT pushbutton 4WD seems to be having some issues. Car takes a few seconds to engage in any gear, once it engages car still does not want to move once the accelerator pedal is pushed. The car will move but not like it should. I guess with having 190k I cant expect much more from this tranny. I just dont want to give it up because it still runs great and for a Northeast GL the body has been holding up well. Anyone know of a fix?

Anyone ever heard of CRS?
I was looking under my parents 00 OBW and found a plate on the tranny that reads Remanufactured 3/30/05 by a company called CRS in Mahwah NJ..Anyone ever hear of this company?

What's the best way to clean the engine compartment?
jeep5.9litre replied to 211's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI usually clean engines with the engine off, but make sure the alternator, coil, fusebox, and ECM if visible is covered over with a plastic bag to avoid any problems. If the spark plugs are situated in a way that will "pool" water, I will usually give a few quick sprays of WD40 to chase it away if it does try to enter. Then blow the engine off with some compressed air to dry, then start the vehicle.
