question regarding Outback/Forester strut swap..
subie94 replied to subie94's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
thanks for the reply.i'll have to look into the different lift blocks available.don't want anything extreme, maybe just a 1-2" lift (wanna put 27s on eventually..) -
cool, thanks. i wonder if 1" spacers with stock outback struts would allow me to clear 205/75/15 (stocks is 205/70/15) or maybe get the spacers for a forester and use Forester struts.. *edit* Hmm..i just read on my other post about Forester/Outback strut swap and was told to just use lift spacers and not bother with strut swap..Hmm..

they're 1" machined strut spacers http://www.subtle-solutions.com/product_info.php?products_id=137 i don't have ability to create my own spacers (tools, etc) and was thinking of just using these for mild lift. if so,how were they to install ?

question regarding Outback/Forester strut swap..
subie94 replied to subie94's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
Oops..they're going into my 97 Outback. -
I'm sure i know the answer but would it be a big deal if i got the 4 Forester struts from multiple Gen 2 Foresters ? only yard that has all four that i need, only has one or two from a 03 and the other 2 are from a 04 (i believe) only difference would just be difference in mileage right ,i assume..? I'd like to have at least the swap done before May (spring Vermonster event),doubt i'll have the bigger tires (was hoping for 215/75/15s if they'll fit with just the strut lift) (size i want is in attached comparison pic, gonna swap free tire to stock alloy and use for test fitting)

ah ok..Thanks for the heads up about it just being a wire..thought i smelt a wiring burning the other morning but couldn't pin point where.. i wonder if the one from my 94 would work.( pulled everything from the box when i scraped it..now if i could find it **Found it** ) I just hope the wire wasn't put in there cause something kept popping the link..
-
And started to melt the plastic cover.previous owner said he had alt/battery replaced when alt fried (which also damaged something in the gauge cluster, which was also replaced) jacket on fusable link looks discolored but not melted..Just the black plastic cover of the box link is in.. besides the stock radio losing half the lights and most of the lights out for climate control,no electrical issues to speak of..should i replace the fusable link to be safe or should i not worry right now ? (i'll try and get pic tomorrow)

*To Original poster-Not trying to Hi-jack with my question* but since everyone is talking about the benefits of Synthetic oil..would it do my 2.5 (with over 200K) good to switch ? gotta do another oil change soon (silly me,i put 10w-30 in last time and it calls for 5w-30,lifters tick a bit) i have thought of using Royal Purple (which would cost about the same as Synthetic i think) Thanks..

ok so according to this page,my 97 Legacy Outback and the 02 Baja's plugs are wired the same way (wire placement in the plug, just different colors..) http://ae64.com/Legacy-pinout.htm Must have bad radio then..he did mention that when he got it,he was told it didn't work but found a cd jammed and it worked fine after that..no cd jammed this time..just won't turn on..
-
ok..does anyone know if the factory plugs are wired the same (as far as power, etc being in the same spots)..plug from the 97 Outback harness does fit into the back of the 6 disc cd player which came out of a 02 Baja and was used in a 02 Impreza. when i plug it in,i can hear (and see it with top removed) the changer mech move but won't power on or anything.. i was like when i got it..now i'm now if my Outback didn't come with one (standard or optional) ,could that be the reason this one doesn't work did i get a bad radio..

your friggin awesome..( i mean, what are the chances of someone having rust free items that i need..) how much do you think it'd weigh ? i'll check to see if i can have it shipped to my work (Home Depot in Concord,N.H.).will check tonight when i go in and will send you a P/M with exact address shortly after about 10pm..

it sits/bolts to the top of the gas tank on drivers side.I'll see if one of the computers at work (which i'm on right now) will allow me to upload a pic and i'll try in a bit to come back and edit this with pic.. what is in question has one hose to it and a electrical connection. I got it taped up and jb Welded..drove to work and i can see that gas is seeping alittle out from under the P*** poor patch job.. *on a good note,i'll be picking up a factory multi cd player from a guy for $30 tomorrow night..*

Friggin a..just got off the phone with stealership..$400 for the fuel pump assembly..all because what needs to be replaced doesn't seem to be available at parts store and parts dept can't order just that part (where it attaches to top of tank and has two elec connections and a single tube coming out the top..) guess it'll just be getting patched for now.. now the unit on pass side..it that just the sending unit (fuel level) or is there a main fuel pump in there..?? (wondering if me and parts dept got things mixed..)

Welcome aboard.. any pics ? I got a 97 Leggy Outback that i plan on lifting in the future also.. -
i already had the main sending unit/pump replaced when i got my 97 Outback and i was trying to locate where i'm still getting gas smell/leak from and upon pulling the cover from above the secondary sending unit (which fell apart in a pile of rust..) i noticed there's only one line connected.. guess the question is-is this unit for a reserve for when tank gets down to a certain level on gas ? couldn't tell if it was a high pressure line cause i'm not even seeing a clamp of any type (which concerns me now that i think of it..) (may have to have that unit replaced to cause i slightly touch the metal tube and rust came off (and i think i created tiny leak hole in tube) frigging a..the car is just about perfect (rust/trouble free almost) except for fuel tank and connections..

Jarl,no worries about posting a link to another site..(actually helped me out) it has been awhile since replacing a stock radio and the link let me know a 97s radio comes out differently then in a 94 legacy.. i got a lead on a 5 disc cd player from a Baja..double din style..for $30.just waiting to hear back from the guy..

My 97 Outback has the factory tape deck in it and was wondering if there were some models that had factory cd players that would fit in my Outback..? sure,i could pick up a after market one but it'd be nice for something that was plug n play..(no wiring harness, install kits needed) *i did a quick search but nothing exactly popped up* Thanks,Matt..
