well the pump was replaced and was told some other disturbing news..tank is pretty rusty..$400ish for new tank (dealer price) i may just drive it for a bit and if the tank is really bad,i may sell for parts unless i could get it replaced cheaply..Interior is in perfect shape (well except for the cargo cover which doesn't roll up),body is pretty good (couple spots along rear fenders and a section of rocker on one side) sure it has 200K but it doesn't look it..well kept up by original owner..

i called em at like 5pm (it's been there since noon) and tech was still working on it (soaking, etc) and should be all set by tomorrow.service adviser said it wouldn't effect cost either. i should have em change gear oil in trans (or check it at least) while driving it home,i thought i was hearing a gear noise only while on the gas and in gear or if i down shifted.kinda a whirring noise..i had a 92 Leg that i had to run a little heavier weight cause of a throw out bearing (or something like that)

well i did buy it...the rest of it isn't bad.couple spots of rust on fender edge and a small section of rocker to patch. i looked at it twice and it didn't look like to bad of a job at first but it wasn't till i got it home and looked into it more that i found out how bad the nuts are rusted oh and also found out where exactly it's leaking from.one tube has a bad rust hole.. so i'll soak the fasteners in PB Blaster and see if i can carefully remove em.. otherwise,i was thinking of calling the dearlership and see how much it would cost.(without dropping the tank)

That's the thing,he said timing belt was done.didn't mention pulleys though.yeeah, not to thrilled about the fact that it's a interference engine.. I wonder if i was to go to the dealership that did the work,if they'd be able to give me the records of all work done on it..? Can't see why not,not like i'm asking for personal records of previous owner..

I'm looking at a 97 Outback 5 spd,2.5 with about 200k for 1k (has it listed as whole parts car for best offer) and seller says it leaks from the top of the fuel pump.how common is it to leak from the hose connections (metal) or could it just be the hose itself ? That'd be sweet if i could just trim the fuel hose an inch or two instead of replacing pump.. He bought a fuel pump but hasn't installed it yet.also just needs a small section of leftside rear rocker.interior is beautiful.he's original owner and said he has had it serviced every 3k miles (oil changes mostly),new brake lines, rear brakes/rotors,new muffler, belts (including timing belt),new alt and battery and one wheel bearing up front.(will post pics in a bit..) oh and he said he had the head Gasket problem taken care of at about 100k.all work done was done buy Soob Dealer i believe..

When you dont trust the bumper "guards"
subie94 replied to Idasho's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
speaking of recovery points..both my front tow hooks rotted off.. -
yeah, only reason he used stick weld was cause at th time,he hadn't set up his welder for mig/tig..otherwise he would of mig welded.

Nice looking Bumper.. on a side note, what's the bar below the bumper for ? my brat has one too and it looks like something was welded to it on both ends, was that for factory brush guard or something ? -
front wheel bearing type in 86 Brat.?
subie94 replied to subie94's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
thanks for the reply. (so straight bearings, not angled right ?) sorry for silly question but when you say cone washer and mating surface, you talking at the axle nut ? (i probably should get repair manual) -
i figured i'd ask here what type the front wheel bearings are so i don't have to take things apart first.. i get a slight grinding/squealing sound from front wheels (mainly pass side for squeal but i seem to hear a grind from drivers side) not to mention a slight wobble feel at slow speeds. no clicking or anything from CV and boots look good (no rips/tears.) Thanks in advance

i Think i gotta stop driving it right now and either replace wheel bearing or re-grease if possible.getting a little squeak going straight or turning left. i had to disconnect hill holder,it wouldn't let me move for a sec..also thinking that was cause the squeak from the brakes.. probably wasn't best idea to buy a 25 yr old soob in current condition as a daily driver..but then again,i do really enjoy driving it (and the looks and complements i get..) -
i may just patch em for now and get with the guy that did the ones on my XJ.he does welding for a living but his personal welder is a small mig and when he did the xj,he used stick welding..and had issues burning through the thin steel along door sills.. only cost me about $200 (steel/labor)

well speedo cable seems to be seated fine at trans,i guess i'll have to replace it (unless it came loose behind gauge..) The needle will bounce from 20-40 mph when i'm roughly doing 30...bounces alot less when i'm up to about 40-45 and even less at 50 and above (though i'm not exactly sure how accurate it is..) would bad speedo cable cause odometer/trip meter not to work ? -

Nice looking Brats.. -
(thought i'd put this in the offroad section, but maybe belongs in different section) I did it on my Jeep Cherokee when the rockers were to rotted to be patched.i didn't know if anyone here has done it with a Subaru (or thought of doing it)

Thanks for the replys.. i think i'll have to wait and see if i can get by with seat covers for now.maybe i'll find someone selling decent seats that'll be direct bolt ins in the future.. -
