  1. Does anyone know if a 2000 Forester L has a cabin filter ? ~Howard
  2. I've had two episodes involving the gas cap. They take a LONG time to clear. Both were my fault because the wife refuses to fill up the Forester. I put on a locking gas cap which my better half doesn't like to use. ~Howard
  3. The web site states that it will NOT work on 1996-2000 Subarus. ~Howard
  4. I was in my car a lot today and noticed something strange. I keep getting a clicking sound when I hit a bump, the road dips a bit or I brake. It doesn't happen everytime. It sounds to me that it's coming from the rear of the car. It isn't something in the cargo area. Has anyone had this happen ? Does anyone have a clue what it might be ? Thanks in advance for your help. ~Howard
  5. The tires I mentioned have a good rating at Tire Rack. I just feel that GY was unresponsive to my problems. ~Howard
  6. I would not use GY tires if they gave them to me. I had a set of 4 on my old Mercury Sable. Right out of the box I noticed "dimples" on two of the tires. The manager of the GY company store told me that was ply separation and that they would be replaced free under the warranty. The next month I noticed the same problem on another tire. Another manager told me that was caused by the way they were stored and it would be resolved in x miles of use. YEAH....RIGHT. Next up GY closed all of the company stores in the Philly area. I had to call corporate and find out where to take my car. Independent dealers would not honor my regular warranty or my road hazzard warranty. Just Tires is owned by GY. I spoke to the manager at Just Tires about the same problem which happened on another tire and he said to bring the car in which I did. He would only replace one tire with one that did not have the same thread pattern (my model was discontinued) and he would not give me a break in purchasing another for the same axel. GY tires in my opinion are nothing but JUNK. ~Howard
  7. Bridgestone Turanza LST OR Firestone Affinity LH30 I'm using the Bridgestone on my 2000 Forester. They are a very good all season tire. This is my 2nd winter with them and I have no complaints. My wife uses the Firestone on her Camry. They are fine but I think the Bridgestone are a tad better in the snow. ~Howard
  8. Want to know what really makes a difference ? I used Rain-X on the rear window. I am going to try the rear wiper in the cold weather this week. Monday it was 69 here in Philly. We should be into the 30-40 range by Tuesday. ~Howard
  9. If I got 19 MPG, I would do hand stands ! Right now in Philadelphia we are using the special winter fuel so it hard to tell but the last time I checked I was getting about 14-15 MPG all city driving. ~Howard :-\
  10. Here in Philadelphia I keep seeing more and more Foresters on the street. They out number by at least 2 to 1 the number of Outbacks I see. Has Subaru peaked ? I don't think so. My podiatrist bought a 2005 Honda CR-V after owning two Foresters. He can't stand the CRV ! It rides like a truck and handles like one. Plus he says he misses the storage compartments among other creature comforts. The CR-V is higher and harder to get into. Now here's something interesting according to him items that were standard on the Forester are optional on the CR-V. I think he can't wait to get rid of it ! Moral of the story: he should have gotten another Subie. ~Howard
  11. I posted this before in another thread but I never got much of a response: Gee..........someone else with the same problems as my 2000 Forester. I replaced the fuel filter, plugs, PVC valve, air filter, FRONT 02 sensor. I'm still only getting 14-15 MPG in city driving. We do use special winter gas here in Philadelphia so I'm waiting until spring to talk to my independent mechanic. By the way there are NO CEL's. My tires have been replaced and are at 35 lbs. I also got a 4 wheel alignment. Someone told me to replace the throttle position sensor but that's an expensive part just to see what will happen. I'm clueless at this point. Everyone tells me I should be getting higher MPG's. ~Howard
  12. I had my mechanic put in Akibono ceramic pads for my 2000 Forester. They are great. Well worth the cost. ~Howard
  13. I got the same e-mail a week or so ago. A dealer will ask for proof of ownership unless you are known in the dealership. ~Howard
  14. I'd go for something less than high end. There are all kinds of aholes out there waiting to do harm to your auto. Pioneer or Sony would be my first choices with Blaupunt or Panasonic coming in next. Let a dealer tell you how much damage was done to the indside of your Subie ~Howard
  15. I got the instructions today from SOA to install the dual outlets. It is NOT a "prewired" application and it's more than I want to tackle. If anyone wants a copy of the instructions, please PM me ~Howard
  16. JT95: LUBEGARD ATF Protectant is approved by Saab, Volvo and BMW. I'm using it in my Forester and in my wife's Camry without any problems. I've also seen this additive under Aamco Transmissions name. As far as I'm concerned it is a good product that works. I also use their oil additive.

  18. Does anyone know if this is another "prewired" application ? HELP ! ~Howard :-\
