liftkit question...
thanks Fox... instead of spending $450 on a weber carb, i'm gonna get headers, 2.5" exhaust with a high-flow cat, a k&n air filter, and a 3 inch lift. and I got under the car and looked on the back of my diff..... it said it was a 3.9 but i couldn't see anywhere that it said LSD... if it's a 3.9 does that automatically mean it's an LSD?

My"new" wagon just won me over
there's an empty lot near my friends house that is used mostly as extra parking space. muddy, and there's a big dip where the edge of the road meets the worn, muddy ground. I used to park there with my '93 soob all the time, just pull in and put it in park. maybe even give it some gas and sling a little mud around to get my car nice and dirty . the first week that I was forced to drive my sisters 1990 Honda Accord coupe I went to his house and pulled in, and the front end hammered into the ground and I couldn't move. tried to reverse, stuck. i decided to shove some bricks behind the wheels and try to reverse that way, and that worked. I hate Hondas.

liftkit question...
does putting a lift on a Subie make it any worse on axles? it seems like it would since the angle between the middle of the wheel and the differential is more extreme... yet I haven't heard anybody whining about it. And do I need to get my gas tank cleaned out cuz it sat for a year and it seems to be clogging fuel filters kinda fast... and it won't hurt a carbed engine to completely run it out of gas will it? thanks, Jordan

Has Subaru Peaked?

Has Subaru Peaked?
Subaru_dude replied to 9098's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI very rarely hear about 2 cars hitting head on. Most of the time it's collisions with trees or, in an SUV's case, rollovers. Rollovers, obviously, are deadly because you could very easily be ejected from the vehicle. Possibly even crushed under the vehicles own immense weight. This won't, most likely, happen with a car because of the lower center of gravity. Especially if you're in a Subaru with a boxer engine:grin: . When a much larger and heavier vehicle hits something like, say, a tree... there is much more cumpling and deforming of the frame because the vehicle is so heavy, the sheer momentum alone does a fair amount of it's own damage to the frame. In the real world cars usually run into ditches, hit trees, or in many cases vehicles will collide. But it isn't too common that it's a head on collision. I think instead of worrying about how safe we are and how high off the ground we are, we should worry about something called Global Warming... sound familiar to anybody? It's that thing that could throw off the delicate balance of the earth's climate and cause a major misbalance in the planet's ecosystems. Ever wonder why tomatos are so darn expensive? I'm not bashing all SUV owners or anything, but I'm sure everybody's seen the lady on her cell phone driving her Suburban or Excursion... right? Yeah, you've seen her. The lady with 2 kids and room for 9? Yep, that's her... not even so much as a trailer hitch. Is excess bliss or just wasteful? You tell me. supply..... DEMAND I may not be a rocket scientist, but something tells me this isn't the most intelligent way to run our country. If you drive an oversized SUV to feel safe, maybe it would be a good idea to quit being so selfish and give our country a fighting chance to be truly independant, if you know what I'm talking about. Sorry to anybody who took offense to this post. Tell me if this post could get this message board shut down... I'll apologize and respond accordingly if need be.

EA82 MPG numbers
when I had my '93 Loyale, I was getting 21 around town and 26.5 highway. in my GL, I'm getting 23 around town and 30 on the highway. maybe paying for middle grade gas isn't so bad after all, lol.

making my GL faster
i don't think i got your pm WJM... how do I know I got one? NO MAF, or one from a MPFI, TWE header, EJ engine & tranny and get MS to run it well, TWE DP, WRX TMIC <-------holy crap what's all that..... I'm fairly new at this ya know, lol

making my GL faster
and oh yeah..... what exactly is the difference between ohc and ohv? right now i just want some power to pass with. when I get a full time job though, i will think about putting alot more mods on it. I really don't know much about cars, I never have any time to. I work 40 hours a week on top of being a senior... but this summer I'll finally be free. I only make $5.75 an hour, so I can barely afford to pay for gas and insurance being that gas is $2.00 a gallon just for medium... once I save up more money I'll add a turbo, and whatever else needs to be done with that. How long would it take me to put a weber carb on it? and oh yeah, i found out how much a freakin carburetor was. $460.00!!! shat... lol. maybe i won't even get that yet, i dunno. I just want a little extra oomph so i can pass some Hondas, that's all. I don't wanna make it a speed demon, I just want a well-rounded off road, but not too slow wagon. I don't really want a byb kit cuz that would just make the car that much worse on axles. but I do want good sound, and at least 10 more pound feet of torque. moving from a Honda with 140 lb ft of torque to a subie with only about 95 is kinda getting on my nerves.

-
making my GL faster
wow guys, thanks alot... i got $1500 to blow and i have a feeling after reading all this, i'm gonna go broke, lol. I think I'll stick with exaust for the sound, a Weber carb, maybe even headers... and the K&N air filter. then i'll get a better job and save up money, and...... turbo maybe?

difference in engines...
what exactly is the difference between ea81 and ea82 engines? maybe it's a stupid question, but i didn't learn as much from my first Subaru as I should have, lol. and please explain the difference between gen. 1 and gen. 2 subarus as well. thanks

making my GL faster
I'm planning on putting exhaust and a K&N air filter on my '87 gl but I'm not too sure what kind of exhaust would sound the best or what kind of mufflers would sound the best. i'm actually going for power more than anything, but i've heard a WRX with exhaust and i think it would be something to pull up next to the Hondas in the school parking lot that sound like weedeaters and blow them away in my station wagon. and do they even make K&N air filters for these old Subarus? or would I have to find some way to make one fit? and how much would a good exhaust system cost?

Subaru handbrakes...
Subaru_dude replied to Subaru_dude's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXi would almost prefer to have them in the front just to add on to their already confused look when they see the spair. "The e-brake locks up the front tires too." "What!?" lol

Subaru handbrakes...
Do the new Subarus still lock up the front wheels instead of the rear when the emergency brake is engaged? I found out the older ones locked up the front when i tried to powerslide in the rain and nothing happened. I looked into it and the Loyales and other older Subarus all have emergency brakes that lock up the front wheels. This question has been bugging me for a long time so if anybody knows, PLEASE tell me. Thanks alot.

What should i do to this thing?
my dad's friend welded half a pipe to the front of his subaru brat... and it looks pretty cool too. I'm not sure how he did it but you should try that out. and yeah, the newer bumpers are very strong. I rear-ended a Dodge truck in the school parking lot while trying to make sure nobody was going to try to cut me off and wasn't paying attention and hit him pretty damn hard. I backed up and he must have figured that if it didn't damage the front of my car, it didn't do anything to his. He had a large black groove in his back bumper and he was pretty ticked the next day. He couldn't really say anything cuz he had expired tags, so I told him not to worry about it, trucks are supposed to get dents.

loyale clutch replacement
check your differential fluid, my old Loyale used to make that noise and it was only because it had no differential fluid.

www.cardomain.com sorry, i gave you the wrong link the first time...... lol

sorry, not just 1990 Loyales, but 1990-1994 Loyales

Wagon wisdom. Buying advice.
1990 Loyales did have sunroofs available, EXTREMELY hard to find though. I've never seen one, but somewhere on www.cardomains.com there's a Loyale in there with a sunroof. To help out with your highway commutes, you could get high profile tires put on your car and you can travel faster with lower rpm's..... but you'll be traveling about 8-10 mph faster than the spedo says. Good luck finding a Loyale with a sunroof, I doubt you'll find one. But I'd say a Loyale is the car you would be happiest with. I have an '87 GL dual range. NICE indeed.

new to Da Club
Hey, I just bought a 1987 Subaru GL 4x4 5spd. NICE. Sure beats putting around in my sisters teenie tiny Honda. Man I hate that thing, lol. My first car was a 1993 Subaru Loyale FWD auto with 205,000 miles on it and it ran better than my sisters Honda with 150,000. The starter went out on it and my mom sold it because it was under her name. So I was left with my sisters car for transportation. She doesn't have her driver's license anyway so if it wasn't for me, it would be sitting under a tree in our yard. I got fed up with it and bought the Subaru from an older lady who babied it, but the owners before lived near the ocean and the engine is covered in salt. A good steam cleaning and it should do just fine. I like the fact it rides about 10 inches higher up in the air than that damn Honda. Anyway, I hope to go on a trip with you guys someday, maybe when I'm out of high-school and I have a better paying job. It already has high profile tires on it so it has decent ground clearance as it is. I'm thinking about putting exhaust on it and a K&N air filter on it just for a few more horses. It has very little rust and the interior is in really good shape. I paid $1100 for it and it was worth every bit. I love this car. It's so awesome. I love seeing the look on rednecks faces when I climb hills that their overweight Dodge trucks with the 33" swampers can't climb. But my favorite look, by far, is the look on their face when they see a full size spare sitting on top of the engine. HAHAHA... now that's funny. If you guys feel like it, just leave some messages so I can get to know everybody. I left a thread somewhere on this site stating basically the same things I've said on this post...... but I can't find it, lol. I hope to go on a trip with some of you guys someday, it sounds like alot of fun. There's some good trails down in Chatanooga I believe, but my friend knows of a great one I saw on tape when he was with his brother somewhere in the backwoods of the Smoky Mountains. I hope to catch up with you guys later. I'll put up another post sometime tomorrow I hope. p.s. Honda+speedbump=stuckfergood
