  1. my oil pressure sender hasn't worked in ages... I didn't have any tools or anything with me last night, so I couldn't check it. It seems like you're talking about the disty screw? I think I have a pretty decent idea of what you're talking about, and will check that.
  2. U joints in these are not rebuildable. You basically have to get another driveshaft...
  3. it almost seems like this is the case. It would just be running off compression and dieseling...
  4. it actually seems like it may be the passenger side, but without looking, I can't be certain. If I'm sitting in the car and try to start it, it does rock to the driver side slightly... I guess I'll take some tools and try and check it out...
  5. ea82 wagon. has about a little over 300k on it. was driving home last night, and the car just suddenly quit. Thought I heard a small pop, and it just died. Thought at first I lost a belt, but they were intact. Car tries to turn over, and sounds fine for the first second, then it sounds like the starter isn't quite catching (my second thought for what may have happened). When this all happened, I was on the highway doing about 65 (maybe a little quicker), but by the time I stopped (fairly quickly), the engine was dead, no idle at all. Just went from chugging along to dying. My thought this morning may have been timing belts or something distributor related, but the fact that it's trying to turn over a least a little kind of nixes the disty... Any ideas???
  6. I've got 300,630 miles on my 1985 GL wagon (ea82). It's been parked for almost 2 years, and the speedo and odometer may be off some due to the larger tires I put on it.
  7. I catch most of that. I already have the oil and air filter. what is the slice n spline you speak off??
  8. don't go with the bumpers. bushings shouldn't be bad, but I know the Air struts are highly priced...
  9. The sound of a boxer engine... mmmmmmm... remembered how much I missed it when I started the soob the other day...
  10. Was thinking about it the other day, and was running down the list of things I've done to my vehicles... I've changed a halfshaft in the soob. Converted the Soob to rear discs. Changed the unit bearings in my jeep. Those are some of the bigger things I've done, but.... I've never changed my own oil... I'm so ashamed...
  11. One thing at a time. Plus, I'm going with some aftermarket wires/coil for a little more power. Will need a new cap and stuff though... BTW, does anyone have a part number handy for the cap and rotor? The dudes here are complete morons...
  12. got something sittin in the passenger seat of my wife's cherokee... 4 Genuine OEM Subaru (NGK) plugs and a Genuine Subaru Oil Filter. Going to pick up some oil in the next day or so. Probably be Castrol... Any recommended weights? **EDIT** If I run SeaFoam through, do you think I should do it before or after I change the plugs? I'm thinking before.
  13. http://usmb.net/gallery/view_album.php?set_albumName=album140 put some explanations in there... pics were taken after I had aired the tires up. The worst problems I had were the tach was funny for the first few minutes. It would go up to about 3k and then just die. Put the clutch in and it would be fine again... Like I said, going to do a few tune-up type items for now, and try and get the interior cleaned out of all the presents... Maybe shampoo those carpets, get the bumpers cleaned up eventually, and then the paint. All the clearcoat has come off the hood, and is slowly peeling off the rest of the body too. Going to try running a tank of 91 through there just for grins also. What spark plugs does everyone recommend? Probably just go with factory wires unless someone has another suggestion. Definitely going with an aftermarket coil though...
  14. no, the jeep didn't fail me... I've just been driving my sis-in-law's old escort back and forth to work (60 mile round trip), and it blew a tire the other day, and then she sold it to her cousin, so I'm without a daily driver. So I figured I should get it out of mothballs. Surprisingly the gas is good. At least it seems to be. Was hard to get it started at first (battery was DEAD), but I sprayed some carb cleaner in the carb to clean the gunk out, and it also helps to start the vehicle. Got it started, and let it run. Drove it about 20-odd miles to charge the battery. Runs good, clutch is toast, and I'm going to do a tune-up on it. Gonna do plugs, wires, and coil at the very least. Definitely an oil change using an OEM filter. Might see if I can get some SeaFoam to clean the interior of the engine out... I'll post some pics later tonight of what the engine compartment and stuff looked like...
  15. I think the main thing is the battery... Clutch is on the way out, but not gone... I drive mostly on the highway, so I should be alright there... gonna see how bad it runs, then do a tuneup over the next few months...
  16. Well, tomorrow I try and resurrect the 85 wagon... It's been sitting for a little under 2 years (due to clutch going bad, large amounts of work, and no money). So, I'm going over to my in-law's house where it has been parked to try and slowly resurrect it. I'll make sure to take pics for everyone... Wish me luck.
  17. can someone give me those two specs. I'm at work, and need them for something I'm trying to figure out. would be for an ea82 with 5 spd and dual range 4wd
  18. there was an article in hot rod magazine a month or two ago, and it was supercharger vs turbo, and they used a carb. Basically, if you put the carb in a sealed box, it basically flows twice what it normally would... I'll get the magazine and type out specifics later tonight, but they made the most power with the turbo.
  19. I'd actually have to say that I don't see any invading going on. What I originally saw was a comment made at the wrong group of people, and then defense of that by several others. And then that wasn't for around 15 different replies. Now, if there was an invasion, it would have already happened. There are 20,000 plus members on pirate. We have what? 4000? Quite a sizeable following, but still, we're outnumbered 4 - 1. 3 people does not an invasion make. They are simply expressing certain opinions here, and mostly in defense. There are also a few clarifications in there also.
  20. Just found out something. One of the threads (the one brian started) in Rubicon Trail Talk was closed there was so much fighting on it. The wheeling community as a whole does not need in-fighting and board wars. Let's just all try and be cool with one another, sit back, and chill.
  21. Here is the main link that you should read. This was made towards the end of the week when I was wondering your progress. There is a quite a bit of support. And btw, the smiley flipoffs means they are joking, not being serious. Read into when he says a little, and you'll get it. http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=170181 Here is an EXCELLENT post by Zap. http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=171187 Here is one that is not so great. However, there is some support, but at the same time there are some anti-Sub people. http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=137239
