A few years ago one of the Australian guys put a supercharger from an older Toyota MR2 on his ea82... In theory you could make almost anyone work as long as you found a belt that would work.

There is a big difference between the smiley flipoff that a LOT of people use, and the regular flipoff... Sure, there is a lot of smiley flipoff, that means it's all in good fun... Obviously it's very hard to convey exact meaning through type, that one is used a lot to convey that... The moon rover setup has become popular as of late because of Tiny, the first buggy run by Jon Bundrant of All-Pro Offroad. After he came out with Tiny (built by Nelson and Nelson Offroad who usually do Baja trucks), a lot of people came out with their own versions. The rigs work very well... A lot of the people there are of the go big or go home attitude. But once again, it's not jeepsunlimited.com. There are a lot of the competitors of the rockcrawling circuits there, and they all go big. PBB runs the gamut though. It's not all 44 inch tires (there are some bigger and more smaller), and not all 2.5 ton rockwell axles. Really though, once you get past the facade, there really are a decent bunch of guys (and girls) over there. They are doing a lot to try and keep trails open also, more than you would think. Actually, the Con is in danger of being shut down if they aren't careful, and a lot of PBB members try and watch to ensure that the trail is being taken care of properly...

1. PBB is approximately 5x as big as the USMB. It's known for not putting up with (for lack of a better word) stupidity. There are several other not as hardcore sites that are more appropriate for that. It's not asking about "what's the best lift for my jeep that I can buy", it's more of "I rebuilt the suspension on my jeep and am having trouble with anti-squat". I have learned more there than I could ever imagine. It's just not an easy board. They are trying to remedy that, but it's not easy. 2. There is a difference between Pirate4x4.com and the Pirates of the Rubicon. Originally P4x4.com started out as a board FOR the Pirates of the Rubicon club, but slowly grew into what it has become today. There are really only about 15 or 20 members of the Pirates of the Rubicon. So one does not necessarily represent the other. Sure, I go to Pirate4x4.com, but I'm not a member of the Pirates of the Rubicon Club. Some people don't necessarily make that distinction, however.

While you find that funny, Pirate is the same way in that respect. They are asked not to actively search out and start flame wars. Sure, the HP caught crap there. I know you and Eric (mainly) caught crap, along with MudRat about going on the Con. Despite the crap that goes on there, I would trust most of the main posters on that board. I've met MANY PBB board members through various events, and they've alway been stand-up guys. Sure, there are guys on there I wouldn't trust. There are guys on here that I woudln't trust. It goes both ways. Back to the subject: The spotter of the team the buggy is being built for has always had respect for the WRX engine, and has wanted to use one for several years. Now they are getting their chance. Will be interesting to see how it goes.

Will be interesting to see how it does. Now, I also know some of you don't like Pirate4x4.com. I am not posting this to turn it into a board war. I think it's cool as hell, and the people building this particular buggy are cool as hell. So, please do not go over there and start anything.

hmm... to lower mine, all i have to do is turn the struts down... course it helps that they are adjustable.

BTW, for anyone wanting to install Toyota axles, I can make a connection for you. With the information I've been given, I'm not entirely sure this is true, but this is what I was told, so I'm going with it. Nippon-Denso is one of the largest Japanese car parts makers. Toyota owns Nippon-Denso. Nippon-Denso parts are in Subes. There ya go.

I'll agree with you to a point. And I'll back up what I say also, with an analogy to this board. Pirate is different than most other boards, this is true. I'd say half of those guys are cool as can be, and half are just plain jerks. You run into that type of thing on most boards across the world. As Pirate is more of an extreme website, they get more than their fair share of noobs and trolls that ask ridiculous questions without first searching. Why, even here, on the USMB, we get questions that come up constantly that people are telling others to search for, that the answer was actually just posted last week. I've met probably 10 or more people off of Pirate through various wheeling events, and they have ALL been cool as hell. Much the same as I'm sure the Hatch Patrol, and just about every other board member would be. I'd trust most of the board members to help me out in a jam as I would any USMB member. Over there, you just have to have a *little* thicker skin. And as Zap (and I believe subarubrat) said earlier "I didn't build it for you". Trust me, there is a lot of flaming that goes on there, but there is also a lot of comraderie. Keep in mind, there are about 10x as many members over there, and there is a lot more to police...

2 things. 1. It is possible to get the pin almost the entire way in when it's 180 off. It just takes a hammer and some patience. 2. It will come back out if you get it almost the entire way in, it just involves a punch, a hammer, and some patience. Don't ask how i know.

How fun it was to drive an EA-81 equipped vehicle. My jeep is down right now, so I borrowed a friend's hatch to drive for a week or so... It's not a powerhouse by any means, but it's still fun to drive... Wish I could find one close to me for cheap...

okay, I can't get the freakin crank pulley nut loose. any suggestions?? Car is dead, so I can't just hook up the ratchet and go that way...

that's the reason i checked the disty. I figured if something had happened, I'd be able to tell from the disty gear at least. Disty gear appeared to be in fine shape, with nothing wrong. I don't believe the disty turns, which we checked originally. That's the reason timing belt was deduced. I still have to get the crank pulley off to get the timing belts off, so I'm still working on it.

Okay, so I have one timing belt cover screw that just spins and spins and spins. So, time for that to be broken I guess... Oh well, got another set waiting in the wings, and I'm thinking about running without them. But, here's my problem. I've checked the belts without the covers off as best I could, and it doesn't seem like either one is broken. I also took the disty off just to see if the gear was all busted, and it looked to be fine. My question is: Is there anything else that could act like broken belts. Possibly a belt slipped off or something??? I'm off to get a 22mm socket real quick to remove the crank pulley, so I hope someone replies before then. it's an 85 ea82 wagon

Mom and daughter are doing fine. They got to come home today. I spent all weekend in the hospital with them, talk about a boring two days... Getting ready to go to sleep for our first night home.

yup. and he's been holding at 45-50 lbs. for the last 6 months or so.

well, we tested by pulling the the disty cap and seeing if the rotor turned, and it didn't. I tried starting it afterwards, so I suppose it's possible that the belt got wedged up in there.... BTW, it's subarubob... and where ya been, I ain't seen ya online in a while...

Okay, so as some of you may know, my 85 ea82 powered wagon went down several weeks ago, and all symptoms pointed to the timing belt(s). Went out today to start removing the covers (couldn't get the big pulley off, but started pulling the cover bolts still... so far only one is being a pain)... anyways, I can at least get to the belts. the driverside belt seems fine, and in excellent shape... and same for the passenger side... I can't get the thing out yet though, not quite enough room... it's possible the passsenger one is busted, but the driver side definitely isn't, as I have it just halfway out hanging down...

I'm not 100% hardcore Subaru, but I am a die-hard Subaru fan. I recognize cars for more than just what they can do for me. I recognize them for the things that I can do to and with them. I look at Toyotas (I work at a Yota dealer) as one of the best put together vehicles on the road, and some of the longest lasting and most dependable vehicles. I look at BMWs (it's also a BMW dealer) as one of the best factory race cars that exist, especially the M3 and M5. They are also some of the best looking and most technologically advanced vehicles on the road. I look at Lexus (we sell those, too) as one of the most luxurious and best put together vehicles. I'd own each and every one of those cars for a different reason, much as I'd own a Subaru for it's own reason.

Went to check out the soob today (has been sitting on the side of the road since it broke down last week), popped the hood, popped the rotor cap, and tried to crank it. Rotor didn't turn. So, it was in fact the timing belt. So, now the question is: How off is my timing? Since I tried to turn it over, etc... Guess I'll learn some new stuff on my day off when I try to take the soob apart... This ought to be fun.

right, that's what I thought he meant. holds the rotor in place basically? I will check it when I get a chance, which hopefully will be in a day or two...
