Why not? what would be unsafe?
-
That's what I was thinking, but the fwd 5 speed is sounding like it might be a better choice than trying to run it rwd. ~again, thanks eveyone~
-
Tops out because it is at redline. Starter is on the top. to swap the tranny I would have to cut out holes for the shifter and don't want to do that. I was thinking about just running it in 4wd with out the front axles, thus making it rwd. The question I have is if I change the rear diff. to do this, would every thing fit right in place or not? I have plenty of power to push higher gears. I'm not really looking to go fast, the speed limit is only 65 mph in Oregon, I'm just tired of having to take back roads everywere to get good gas mileage. It was suggested that I just get bigger tires, but I just put $380 worth of TOYOS on original alloys I found, bigger tires are not in my restoration plans. ~james~

I have a 1980 brat, 1600, single range 4wd, and I top out at 85. I want to get a little more out of it than that. I think i have 3.90 gears, but am not sure. I can get my hands on a 3.70 rear diff. i think but would it work if I took out the front axels, and ran it in 4wd, making it rwd? What gears did subaru make? ~thax, James~

My Ea71 powered '80 brat will spin second, and pull all the way to 85 mph but then thats it; it's tacked at about 5,750 rpms. :-\ (I love the look on peoples faces when an old subie go screaming by them with all its got)

Subaru had something like that for the high topper on the gen 1 brats, I found one for my 80 brat.
-
Very Nice, but are the mirrors stock, I have seen similar ones on a 82 gl brat, and was wondering.

New look for the Brat

I like it, a improvement for sure. -
Would it be safe if I rebuilt it first with forged internals? I'm only planing on using a small amount of nitro. Or will it still do catostrophic damage?

So, does enybody have a Nitrous Oxcide System on there gen 1? I ask because I am kinda thinking about it. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

On my old 77 wagon I used vice-grips on the edge of the piston to get it started, but be careful of the boot. On my 80 brat resto project I went out and bought new roters, pads, and calipers (piston came pushed in). -
Anything look out of place?

I bought that same fuel pump for my '77 It is in the original pumps place, but it is a pusher not a puller. I think the instructions said it needs to be 6" below the tank and aimed up at a 45 degree angle. I put mine right were yours is and I get that same ticking. but I kinda like it. -
my '78 wagon needs a trannie

Yep, check the hub. -
A poilce report has been filed and they said its about 85% chance that they find it. I was thinking it might be an inside job, I mean how do you know it is gone and then not call the owner. It was an abandoned vehical, set to be towed and a frind tried to contact the owner, but coulden't so he/she took it to save it. couple months later I bough it off another friend and went through the leagal prossess. I would love to recieve a new STI, but I 17 the ensurence would be over $500 a month.

I took the '80 brat to the dealership to have them fix the tranny and come to find out its been missing for four days. FOUR DAYS and nobody called me or anything. Stolen right frome the dealership. I have to file some poilce files, and hope that it is found. my computer has been down, but I'll try to keep you posted. What do I do If they don't find it? sue? or have them cut me a deal on a new STI? or what. I worked 5 months to get the brat in my name, because it was kinda taken without asking, and I ended up with it, now its gone.

To my knowlage it looks like a stage one to me, some body could have swapped engines. -
Bump

I Have, Well it is accually a fog lamp from shucks, but I switched the bulb with a 75 watt brillant blue APC bulb. I took the subaru emblem out and cut out AROUND the stars. The lamp housing is welded to the support beem behind the grille and fits Perficlty, I'll try to get some pics for ya.

Brother just gave me a D/R 5 speed, was to go into his car, but it got towed (DUII) will it fit?
-
there is just one thing that I dont like about them. The head lights. Head lights should not be just a bulb you replace behind a rectangler piece of plastic. It's probbibly just me but I like four head light setups and round ones are that much more better looking in my opinion. any hoo It is still a subaru and relayable and fun what's not to like other than the head lights.

When I swaped intakes I got water in the heads, and It wouden't turn over. It was like the pisten just stoped. I solved it by turning the crank backwards. it woulden't go forward. it gave the engine some momentome to work past the point at which it stoped.) Not smart of me I know but it worked.
