well gary I think you are a lonely old man that likes to *************** about little things. sometimes when you are a frustrated subie owner all you can say is HELP. Your negative remarks to some posts, (ie about saying things the way people should post or how to title a post) really makes for unenjoyable reading. if your that grumpy about this stuff stop reading the posts or learn some patience. I am speaking for myself of course. sorry to all other readers for jumping this post. Jim

headjobs are so fun????????????
jimpon replied to jimpon's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
so do you see possible problems with this? if so what are they? Jim -
well just finished putting new heads on my 88 gl10t. even after reading all the posts on this subjectI neglected to blow out all the galleries on the cam towers. I learned a lesson though . just because I was very careful in putting on the sealant between the cam tower and head didn't mean that it was a cinch, not by any means. after pulling r head I found no (visible) reason my lifters wouldn't pump up. so I started to blow air everywhere in the oil system, and behold a blob of three different colors of sealants came flying out of the main journal for the cam tower. this must have been in the system since before I got the car. I really didn't like the thought of having this possibly happening again so I found a way around the goop. I went to the oring building kit and got a long oversized piece, some superglue gel and some clamps. I placed a small dot of glue and began stretching around the groove placing dots of glue ocassionaly. the I placed my support oring with a couple more dots of glue. put her back in the car , not a problem yet.

jimpon replied to torxxx's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
had that nasty clunk and it turned out to be a broken shock. couldn't see any damage, even after removing it. replaced it and no more noise. -

jimpon replied to TheSubaruJunkie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
with my 88gl10t I have had to go around and repair the ground wires. I use a shakeproof lock washer in between every wire and the body with some anti corrosion grease. works quite well. Jim -

Diagnostic confirmation help (coolant on an 87 ea82)
jimpon replied to hush777's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I had the same problem on my 88 gl found out that the head on one side was cracked into the water jacket. she would heat up right quick. I had no signs of coolant burn on the plugs, valves looked quite different. Jim -
thanks I'll try your suggestions. you any relation to glenn gross?
-
I just put rebuilt heads on my 88 gl-10 turbo, I had it running somewhat rough and then lost it. I checked to see that # 1 was inline with where it should be it was correct she has spark to the plugs. can smell enough fuel in the exhaust to get a buzz, yet plugs aren't wet. thoughts? oh it's an ea 82 mpfi Jim
-
have you checked the rear drive line?
-
first thing I would check is for compression leaks into the cooling system. have you tried to torque the heads? as far as the blinking effect on the lights it sounds like you have a bad ground some where.

whilst driving down the road at varying speeds it feels like the car loses gas flow until I step on the gas and the turbo kicks in, car runs fine for a few secs then the process starts over again. any Ideas Jim
