  1. Yeah sorry don't know that much about them but will take camera and get pick next time i go to the yard. It surprised me it had the EA81 as well. No promise on the time as between kids and work I hardly get to go there!
  2. Just went to my local u pull it. They never have anything normally but sometimesa a surprise. A Subaru special (looked kinda like a fiat!) A 73 DL Sedan with all the interior intact, a Vortex with an EA81 and SPFi, and a EA82 touring wagon with MPFI. I guess besides just interest (esp the special). It pays to visit the yards regularly to see what they got.
  3. Found this carb advertised on ebay for ($180 US) he has offered to jet it as well and has an adaptor kit for ($35 US) does this seem good, ok? Is it ther right carby? http://cgi.ebay.com.au/WEBER-32-36-DGV-CARBY-DATSUN-COROLLA-SUBARU-SIGMA-GOLF_W0QQitemZ230039792433QQihZ013QQcategoryZ32624QQcmdZViewItem
  4. Hey old sooby enthusiasts. I noticed this for sale on ebay 1974 1400 coupe - only wants $300 aussie dollars. Thought it might be of interest to someone here. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Subaru-GL-1400-Coupe-CHEAP_W0QQitemZ320015890521QQihZ011QQcategoryZ136005QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
  5. Hope this is the right spot for this thread. Noticed a 4wd Sherpa RS for sale on ebay, I found it interesting a tiny 4wd like this. This is the link http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Subaru-Sherpa-no-Fiori-no-Justy-RS-4WD-yes-rare-uniquie_W0QQitemZ330017477545QQihZ014QQcategoryZ50142QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
  6. Hey Dude This has all the symptoms of carby problems. I would say that you have a blockage in the idle circuit of the carby. Simple rebuild/clean should fix it. Runs fine when going cause uses the other passages. Can sometimes see fuel leaking if idle circuits blocked as fuel trys to find a way through, can't and goes elswhere. Also check the small vacumm hose on firewall side of carby, but this shouldnt cause it to stop, just to run crappy. Finally if you do rebuild carby, which is not qa hard job just time consuming. put in extra fuel filters, it's extra insurance to stop carby blockages.
  7. HeHe - if you want you can give it to me, I need another Subaru:D PS if it is the one from last year, he mentioned that it needed new front wheel bearings
  8. Thanks all for your replies. I should have been more specific, the fluid is fine, it is not the brake fluid warning light, it is the stop light warning light. It is telling me that my brake lights are not working, yet they are! Maybe they are working 'just' and there is a loose or poor connection. I suspect this as the stop warning light is not on every time i use brakes, just intermittently (every 2-3 times i use brake). I will try cleaning up the connections and check bulb resistance. In fact might check all bulbs as indicators seem a bit fast as well. Thanks everyone, any more ideas welcome
  9. My stop warning light keeps coming on in my dashboard (84 ea81 touring wagon) when I use my brakes. I know the brake lights are working. Any ideas, it is rather off putting. Could it be the relay for this circuit? The previous owner did splice in a back window brake light, could this cause it?
  10. Just being different would not mean it's not a 72. I have regularly found that the model and what it has is very different here to USA or NZ, etc. For instance breakerless ignition since 1979 in states, breaker points until 82/83 in oz. Can think of many many differences. All aussie released cars since the late sixties have been in km/h, and looking at interior of car this one has been in the shed and riven to the shops and back. I think this is the same coupe that was advertised on ebay last year for $3000 (aussie $$), it is now $500 and still no bids The eventual owner may get this smick coupe for a steal)
  11. My first sooby (82 4wd wagon)had the number plate URP-638 hence subURPy. Since then my 4 yr. old son has been naming my cars and we have had three superrooies (like super kangarooies), which is good cause we live in OZ. They were Superrooie (81 4Wd wagon 2" lift), Superrooie 7 (93 4Wd GL) and Superrooie 58 (84 4Wd touring wagon) - he is only 4, so dont ask me why. On a different topic the things you guys call brush guards we call 'roo bars', they stop you hitting kangaroos and emus (done that suburpy did not like it). It's somewhat ironic that the superrooies need kangaroo bars.
  12. Pretty well spot on, suburpy not even know how to do pdf (but I will try to ask the one that does) and we will see how we go. If I can will post it here.
  13. I found this book when I bought my 84 touring wagon. It is called 4WD with Subaru. It is about 50 pages and covers the vehicles 4wd options, tools, technqiues, trip preparation, driving in different terrain, etc. Has anyone seen this before? It looks like it might have been an Australian only release, as it is published by Subaru Australia. If you want to look at some images I took of it they are in my album here: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showgallery.php?ppuser=11974&cat=500
  14. The heater went cold - all of a sudden, one of the coolant hoses to heater core must have come off or your heater core struck a leak (look for puddles in the car!), this would explain no heat getting to T/stat and top hose as well, and empty radiator. The no start may or may not be relatedl
  15. For mine - classic symptoms of blocked idle circuit in carby (if u have a carby?) I have just had both loyale and 84 wagon die when pull up to lights etc. On one I could see that the idle circuit in carby was so blocked fuel was leaking into the secondary circuit and going everywhere, pretty easy to spot that petrol outside the carby. Rebuilt them both and they idle fine now. I think this is why many people opt for the weber carbys?
  16. If it's power your after then maybe this isn't the sooby for you. Not that soobies are terribly slow, but they are not a performnce vehicle. If you get a good one try to keep it that way (except put a lift kit in it!)
  17. Yup, this is called diesling - could be a number of things, check that ignition timing is set correctly and that idle speed is correct. If this doesnt stop it could be the anti-diesling solenoid on the carby, get one from JY and see if that changes it. Mostly I find this has occured due to timing.
  18. Yep couldn't agree more. Started out working on soobies 8 yrs ago. Only just done second TBelt. Get used to easy things - find TDC and take dizzy in and out, reset timing. Take out radiator and flush cooling system. Do your brakes. etc. Then start on some suspension and other stuff (you need time to assemble all the tools and parts needed). I'm still not quick or particulary handy, but will attempt just about anything now. Tools needed are 36mm socket (for wheels), The USMB forums, a manual, basic ahnd tools 10, 12, 14, 17, 19 mm sockets. Others might be pickle fork, timing light, multimeter, tachometer, spring compressors, etc. Good Luck - subys are easy take your time, do your research and all should be good for many years of motoring.
  19. Yeah have to agree, never liked the old tourers that much, the high roof thingy. But this car is too hot to say no. Subywreck has got some sets of these wheels. I'm at O'Halloran Hill, not that far really, but I'm no fisherman.
  20. The split rear seats are 50/50. Unlike a normal wagon you cannot lay them right down (unless remove back seat first). They are velour trim and really bulky with padding. They are carpeted on the back. This model does not have the rear ride height adjustment ( ie I think touring wagon means - not to go offroad in).
  21. Yep has the split rear seat, and also still has the rear parcel blind thingy (with the springs still working). Also has cruise control. Even has carpet (which is nice in an ozzie sooby). Most of the early soobys here were subjected to extreme tarriffs, so they were mostly fairly basic to keep the $$ down
  22. Chrome wheels are virtually the same as the white wheels, I have not seen them on a wagon, but there is a GL-5 Coupe and a sedan I've seen around with them on. Our Subywreck wreckers have a few sets, so try some JY. Australian cars never had turbo EA81 (have seen one with Jap import motor), so no turbo (unfortunate). As for the condition it really is a credit to the previous owner, he did all the hard work. Now I just enjoy driving around (I get WRX owners with their jaw dropped or a thumbs up, when they see it.) The previous owners (it was really hers) took great delight in telling me that they washed the car every fortnight on the same day (Wednesday). They also never ate food or drink in it and never took it off road or on the beach!!!!!! They both cried (literally) as I drove away. I should mention that the purcahse price was a cool $2000 (aus) or about $1200 (US). I think good price for a car in this condition.
  23. The marks are on some EA82 dizzy, not others. I think the Hitachi has the marks and the ND doesn't.
  24. I once had "frapacino" all under the lid and all over the inside of the rocker covers. One bottle of GOSS chem-i-weld (there are other similar brands) into radiator repairs the water passages. After thinking HG change, new motor , etc. Ended up driving car to sydney (3000 km) and then for six months, then sold car and the bloke that has it is still driving it. Not bad for a ten dollar bottle of goo. Would often see steam out exhaust in mornings as condesate is turned into steam.
  25. Thanks guys, yep she is a smick wagon. This is not photoshop, I'm not that hi tech, had to get someone else to do the photos. Has only done 70K Miles or 120K Kilometres, thats 10,000 KM (6000 M per year). There are no 'plans' for this. I want it to look original as possible, it is only three years from being a 'classic' car!! I have got another ' rust bucket' to go in the dirt with . The thing now is how I convince the family to keep all the Subarus.
