  1. Yeah but at 10,000 feet, I reckon me and me mate could get it going again before we hit the ground But yes the EA81 would be choice over a EA82 :-\, If I had an L series I would find a nice EA81 for as fast as I could... or EJ
  2. Install a vacuum gauge and make sure it always reads as much vacuum as possible ofcorse that will slow you down a little, but it will really help with economy. I found that while crusing at 100kph (60mph approx) I was getting about 5Hg then I let my foot off a little and managed to get a constant 8Hg of vacuum, now I keep a good eye on the gauge to make sure I'm not wasting fuel. I don't think changing the diffs will help too much and like the other guys said, the money is probably better spent on something else, like a new air filter, oil filter, oil, tune up, spark plugs and so on, all those things might get you even better economy.
  3. how much difference would it make if you removed the sway bar from the front of a sube? I always had an inkling that it would give better individual wheel travel. I might just be confused :-\
  4. Well I had the thought of using L rear shocks with the top hat from the fronts and using a set of honda accord springs in the front, this is what my mate Luke would like to do with his L.
  5. My brother and I found some shocks that could be modified to fit in the L rear end, they were from a Nissan Gazelle (pintara coupe I think) looked like they just needed the spring perch welded on and longer springs made up, the Honda Accord (commen upgrade for rear L) springs we found were about 4" too short so I would have to say these nissan shocks would be a good upgrade, when colapsed I think they were about 1-2" longer than stock L rears.
  6. I got some rear shockers from a holden jackaroo, they are about 4-5 inches longer than a MY series shock when extended and about 1" longer when colapsed, my question is... Do I keep my strut lift (about 3" at the top of the shocker) or just bolt the shock on without it? If I do without the strut lift should I wind my torsion bar up one notch to get more down travel? maybe I could even take out my rear lift blocks, whats better up travel or down travel? note: my car has a 2" body lift and the diff is only dropped by about 1". Any suggestions?

    at the beach- photos

Looks soft! unlike goolwa beach in SA where I've done 100kph, but soft is more fun and safer Nice wheels, what size are you running?
  8. I've only ever driven 2" lifted subes, but I think you would have to push it really really hard to roll it on the road, mine (2" lifted) handles quite well on road and off with its crappy van tires and I would think it would handle better with ATs. I say go the lift! just to get bigger tires on and a little more clearance on the body.

    My sube

This is why I drive a Subaru Which car made it up the steep sand slopes??? the Subaru! 83 MY, EA81 with EA82 manifold and larger type EA81 carb, 2" Lift (mostly homemade with aluminium blocks), LT (read van) tyres, welded diff, and cut fenders. Late model Landcruiser with suspension lift and MTs. Note: The Pajero with the diff locker did better than mine though :-\ what more can I say, I am pleased lots of fun was had at Derado Downs, South Australia. now... time for some better tyres me thinks. Roger
  10. My Bullbar aint that cool really, but my new 12,000lb winch (cheap one) made it all look good. the bullbar is from a VL Holden Commordore I think. P.S. I still need to chuck some real tyres on it to really finnish off the look and capabilities.
  11. I've seen at least 3 different ea82 manifolds, mine has one sensor by the thermostat and the other one I've seen has two by the thermostat and one neer the other end of the manifold, all the sensors looked the same so they shouldn't be hard to spot
  12. my first thought was maybe your steering extension is not straight, jack the front wheels up and have a feel on the steering wheel to see if the steering is lumpy or pulls one way when you centre it, it could just be in the first 1/4 turn of the steering wheel? :-\ could be a number of things really.
  13. Soo many answers... but has no one ever used these, I guess not. I will have to find someone who stocks them so I can have a looksee and a feel, I would like to know how bad they ware onroad and what they are like as an allrounder offroad. I don't need anyones opinion on what they "think" this tyre is like, maybe I should have said thet ealier :-\
  14. 27x8.5x14" anyone know what they are like?
  15. will do, but I don't think it should be too far off because the engine still goes great at higher rpms (over about 2500).
  16. ok found the power loss and noise was not the oil, the oil level was fine! it was water loss and overheating, fixed the hose and topped it up and she runs and has power but the idle is about 600 and lumpy and low end power is really lumpy (makes the engine shake, like its firing on three). any ideas on what to do next? I thought I would check the valve clearance first.
  17. My oil is slowly coming out of my oil cap on my ea81, in about 300kms its almost emptied the engine, and today caused it to loose power and tap like crazy on the drivers side bank. Its also putting some of the oil into the air filter. What could cause this?
  18. Good pics, also good to see some subarus blending with the croud. As for the too much jeep thing, I would rather drive a jeep offroad than my subaru (its a jeep thing), but most of my offroading is just dirt roads and I think my sube does just fine on dirt. thanks for sharing
  19. I say just buy a 4" kit from any of the popular suppliers (you would know who they all are already I assume.) They should supply you with the extra parts you need (i.e brake line extentions, steering extention, fuel pump do wacky, radiator hoses, ect ect) or they may just tell you where to get these extras. Email them and ask what else apart from fitting is needed with their lift kit. I run a 2" kit (legal limit where I live) and with some fender cutting and bashing I got 27"s to fit fine. With a 4" kit you should be able to fit 27"s without much or any trimming or bashing... After M/T's and a lift, I think you'll want a LSD/welded rear diff. I know I do. EDIT: Ooops, logged on with my brothers account. This post was posted by me, Phizinza.. Shouldn't happen again, just need to fit my computer.
  20. Looks like I will have to give it a go. Turns out that most of the things I want to do on my cars no-one else has done before (mostly because they think it wouldn't work) but I will still try. And hopefuly it does, then I can stick my sweet wheel on with a MX6/626/TX5/TX3/Probe/323/Laser/Meteor boss kit.
  21. bump. I would like to fit a aftermarket steering wheel and swaping the column and using a mx6/626/323/telstar/laser boss kit sounds easier than finding a boss kit for the ea81.
  22. Can I put an EA82 steering column in my EA81? Simple question hopefuly...
  23. grant 6596 momo 7302 found these with the search, anymore? I don't think we get grant in Auatralia.. SAAS??? Autotechnica??
  24. Just after some boss kit (steering wheel adapters) numbers from different manufacturers to suit my MY wagon, just to make it easier to search for one on evil-bay. What other cars have the same fitment? if there are any... Cheers, Roger
