  1. Cant find any marks on the Flywheel. Its weird. I was talking with Jason, We are going to get the timing better this Saturday... I am going to test the advance and see if it is working properly. Thanks. -Daniel
  2. 1980 Brat with a 1978ish EA71 Ok, I need help, I have found several good things to go by. This weekend I will be changing the plugs and adjusting the valves... hoping to get a little more power as My car runs fine... But I think it is far from optimal as I can barely do 58 MPH... So any tips would be very helpful... MAIN PROBLEM! There are NO timing marks on my car.... Not at all. I just have it timed where it will run.... But It needs more advance in the upper RPMs and Its slow. I am thinking I will just make my own timing Marks on the Front Pully. ALso I read this on a web site: Bypassing the vacuum between the carb and the Distributor? is this a good idea... Any suggestions are welcome! -Daniel
  3. wow. That is One Clean Subaru.... Very Nice... -Daniel
  4. I think The settings in Picasa are restricting non friends from viewing the pictures... -Daniel
  5. http://dallas.craigslist.org/ftw/cto/1326951612.html Looks Cool... Also a Brat... http://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/cto/1327027181.html I have NO money -Daniel
  6. Thanks. Backwoods, How did you set up the Locks? So far no one has messed with my box, but I need to lock it as I am not always nearby the Brat to Shoot the punks... I am still debating on riveting on a stamped lock loop that will stick thought the slots in the handles and just Working up a Big Bolt that goes though the lips of the LID with a Lock. I couldn't find a whole lot of pictures of this install w/ locks on the web... Just a few good examples... I have friends that are about to do the same thing (one with a 72 Chevy Pickup long bed, and one with a 80's Ford ranger. As the price cant be beat... Plus it looks cool... -Daniel
  7. Thanks... Ya the seats are Awesome, $200 at the junk yard... They came out of a wrecked 2002 WRX Wagon... I want to find another set like them from like a newer 07 or 08 for my 2003 Nissan Frontier... The mounts are very similar... Was easy to mount as well, Just made new mounts out of angle, They only fit in the Brat with all the sliders and all adjustment taken out as I am 6'-2" 250lbs So the seats are fixed position now... Also took out the head liner.. Also the Passager seat had this big switch in the seat for the airbag. so the passenger seat sits about 1" higher than the driver seat. -Daniel
  8. Very Cool!! Ummm... Is there a Moab Like place in Dallas... j/k -Daniel
  9. Well I finally got my New skid plate installed and installed some ammo cans on the Bed walls above the wheel well for storage... Thats the only thing bad about the Brat No inside storage... Anyway have pictures here: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=22068&id=1344730058&l=84d66fb20b The new stuff is on page three and Four of the Album I don't know exactly what the original skid plate looked like, but Its going to have to come off every time for an oil change... i used SS hardware, so should be easy to get off each time. I ended up using 12 ga 36ksi steel plate (its about 16 Pounds)... My bar already had intermediate bars under the oil pan, but kept getting big clumps of mud and dirt / grass that would sit right on the cross bar and get the crank pully all muddy. I've made a cad drawing if anyone wants to do the same... I had mine fabricated, but it would be easy to make at home except for the 10 degree bend that is necessary for it to fit. -Daniel Oh And I also Jacked up the front end by about 7/8" by screwing up the Struts... Now the front is almost level with the rear... Needs about 3/4" More.
  10. That would be great, as a lot of us arrived a little too late...
  11. Nope... Only a Tow bar (that I still haven't adapted to the Brat)... I wish I had a tow dolly! I will have to rent from Uhaul. -Daniel
  12. Nope... Has a distributor that is in like 10 peices... carb is supost to be rebuilt but looks really bad... _daniel
  13. Todd, Ya its severely Beat: Back end is wrecked, all four axles are bad, the big Longhorn looking metal on the rear suspension is bend (like to about a 100° angle) The wind shield has like 7 huge cracks, no good plastic (except for a good grill) I think it was vandalized, and has not been registered since 2000. But all that said, I want the motor transmission, wheels, and all the rotors and hubs and suspension parts and what not... Ya I am going to call him this weekend and Offer $150 cash again. Also all the tires are unroadable... So I will have to tow on a dolly with two of my Brats wheels. -Daniel
  14. Thanks for the pics... That is quite a lift! I just want to go up a little in the front to match the unloaded rear and Also fix a bent front strut. It looks like I will probably leave the rear where its at as it is a lot of work... -Daniel
  15. Very good Information, I am in the process of lifting the Front of my 80 Brat... do you have any pictures? I have not even though about the rear yet...:-\ I am only going 2 Inches or 2.5 Inches for the front square Tube Method... Also how was the rear done? Please provide Pictures. as I only want to raise the rear about 1" or so... Thanks. -Daniel
  16. Dustyrider, Sorry to revive a dead thread... Are these pics and videos available anywhere? Would love to see them. -Daniel
  17. Ya, I agree, But this guy is trying to hold out for $450... there is no way he is gonna sell it. So I am just going to Offer $100 and Wait him Out. -Daniel
  18. I found a Brat for sale in Dallas. Went and saw it today... Its really odd. The guy says its a 1977 Brat(four head lights), no title, Also the Vin Number Plate has several more digits than mine! Info Shifter boot is square, not rounded, Speedometer goes up to 120? (mine stops at like 80 or so? The interior was very different than my 1980... Looks just like mine on the outside except for four headlights. This is the second brat I have ever seen except for mine here in Dallas. The car is white, all the plastic has been busted out, (even the side lights) The tail gate looks like a truck rammed it... The engine turns by hand, and 4wd will engage, tranie will shift, All the wheels have been turned inside out???? WEIRD??? and it has a roll bar in the bed. He wants $450, But He wont be able to sell it for that here as everyone is afriad of them. I offered $150... Anyway So anyway what the hell is this thing??? why is it so different Than by 80? Sorry I didn't get any pictures. And Should I buy this thing? I want the struts and engine and such... -Daniel
  19. Ok, I put in seats from a 2003 WRX wagon. They work real well, It is necessary to make custom mounts from angle though. Its not too hard. Only downside is that if you are tall, the new seats require the head liner to be removed. (I'm 6'-2" -Daniel
  20. my favorite color! Its crazy, The Baja New... Doesn't Sell.. Then Used, Well, Its going to hold its re-sale value... -Daniel
  21. haha, I am alone in Texas, Except for Todd... -Daniel
  22. Andy, What year? Also this is the best place for this... I bought my 1980 brat almost three years ago, and it was running on two cylinders, Learned everything from this site, fixed it up and its been my daily driver for over two years now... They will go, and go... pictures: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=22068&id=1344730058&l=84d66fb20b -Daniel
  23. Man, ITs crazy at least here in texas: Look at this: autotrader I want that car so bad, But 17 Grand!!!
  24. Man, Baja's are awesome... I have been trying to find a used Turbo Baja that isnt 17 Grand for quite a while now...
  25. ok, almost all the parts ordered from Subaru where the wrong parts... Nothing fit right, Ended up going to the local mom and pop hardware store. Go some 7MM hardware (very hard to find!!!) and some Aluminum Tube that just fit over this. The shaft from the transmission is very soft! its a very poor design... But was easy to fix, although my fix will have to be repeated every year or so. I am soo glad to hear in the other posts that this design is not used in the new Gens... I used a 7MM Stainless bolt that is about 3/4" dowell and the rest is threads. about 1.25" long or so and made bushings / spacers with the aluminum tube, use the bolt and nut to mold in the aluminum in the gaps between the 7mm bolt and the existing rod as the aluminum tube was way to big to fit inside the hole. The aluminum will wear instead of the Rod... So here is to hoping it lasts a year or more. This fix gave me like 1/2" clearance between the shifter and the transmission, so Will have to check every so often to see how it does long term...
