  1. It fits REAL tight Tom. Your hill holder will have to be moved, and your master cylinder may be an issue as well. Adams is higher in the bay than mine so he will have encountered those fitment issues.
  2. Finally got this written up. Working on some others too. http://www.subarubrat.com/frntshk.htm
  3. That GF is so sweet it must be photoshoped
  4. May - Eyesore needs addition! June - Scott Subarubrat's Brat I will email you on that.. I think I have something for you....
  5. Here are our options I pre-ran the farm course and while it is small there is a diversity of terrain, mud, stream crossing, and hills. There is a larger area for us to explore. There is the power line trail..... This one is a "with due warning" place. I run it but it does need some ground clearance and grip. We can hit it, make your own assesment on your ability to make it. The local gravel pit will be locked tight on the weekend but there is the one in Fburg (about 30 min. away) that is generally open but we would be there at the risk of getting told to leave. So I will see you guys at my place around 10:00. Is scrapdaddy going to make it? Tom06305 is working. Are you guys going to eat breakfast before you leave or would you like something when you arrive?
  6. This pic should answer most of your questions. The EA81 tranny may be used. The basic clutch combo is a EA81 clutch disk and a EA82 flywheel and pressure plate. That combo works fine for a stock ER27 but as HP goes up be prepared to pay for a suitable setup. clutchmasters for example. The motor mounts will have to be fabbed. The front of the engine comes very close to the grill and a radiator suitable for cooling the big 6 will not fit in that area. That leaves you with a solution like mine or Adam N.D.J. My radiator flips up for engine access and the fan clears by about a quarter of an inch. This is with a 6 inch body lift so clearly this option is out without a lift. The lift must also be designed to accomodate the width of the ER27.
  7. Always lift it. You will still enjoy a great ride even lifted. Since you want to keep it mild, go with: 3 inch lift, 27x8.5x14 BF Goodrich All Terrain K/O (actual diameter is 26.6)
  8. First things first. Thermos can be bad out fo the box, hapened to me and cost me a head gasket. Did you install it right, spring toward engine? Did you boil test before installing? Check the water pump too. Remove the feed tube and make sure the impeller is spinning with the pulley.
  9. Are you talking about making castings from the stock plastic ones? I would be all over a set for the ER27, but that is a pretty small market.
  10. I am still trying to get the gravel pit thing lined up but at the very least I have a farm back wash with mud and dirt, that one is actually 5 min. from my house. I will keep you posted here. But lets go ahead and set Sunday in stone. DIRECTIONS TO MY PLACE> Come up 29 past Culpeper. About 10 min past Culpeper you will see an exit to Remington, skip it and go about another mile to the larger one with the flashing lights. Turn right into Remington. Rappahannock St will be ust down on your left. Turn left and you will see a row of double spaced town houses. Look for the American flag and the monster BRAT. Lets shoot for 10:00?
  11. Yeah, MD hates cars more than VA. In VA there is a law forbiding nearly every aftermarket part or mod, although pre 1990s domestics are never ticketed. I had to dig around for a very backwoods low rent redneck garage who had never seen a Subaru BRAT before and who's idea of inspection was to check the lights. Even then I had to extend my side pipes by 5 inches because that was his inspection fetish.
  12. Absolutly, come by and we'll have some breakfast pizza and play some Space Invaders or Galaga for a few. Hey Tom60503 (I think that's right) come on out too if your not working.
  13. There is one in Fredericksburg I am trying to arrange that right now. It is about 20 min. down the road from me. I will keep you posted, Sunday looks good for me.
  14. What are you doing this weekend? I am headed to the gravel pit most probably.
  15. Try simply unplugging the ECU if it is carbed. My EA81 in the BRAT had driveability problems from the ECU triggering functions on the carb. I unplugged the ECU and it ran just fine and got better gas mileage.
  16. You probably unplugged or loosened a connection from the ECS to the engine ECS is the ECU.
  17. In general, I would expect you could use a 2000lb on a Gen1. Gen2 would be about 10% over the rating so depending on mud suction, grade etc. you might not have enough, but then again the stock winch was in a similar position. The 3000lb one should do fine for either one but again, mud suction could still dictate use of a snatch block. But still, a 2000lb winch, snatch block and additional wire would run you well under $100 and while it might not be the ultimate winch solution it would be fine for most situations and certainly worth the money.
  18. Never recieved it! I have been meaning to email you about it. I deleted the email with your addy in it so I was just going to send the cash using the return address, but nothing showed up. And as I said, I have been meaning to get back to you about it.
  19. I am trying to put together an east coast meet in Orange VA at the first rally cross of the season (march-ish). Lets hope for lots of rain and lots of MUD. The basics on the suspension: King springs, re-indexed rears. Rancho adjustables all around, adjustable tortion bars and cartridged front struts. DL strap mounts are on but I don't run the straps most of the time. I need to get some details up on the axles and brakes, please bear with me. The gearing is 3:9 diff and EA81 D/R tranny. Just overcome by more power!
  20. Not the most powerful but similar to what the stock one was. They have a 2000Lb single line pull for $50 (let the pop up load when you go to their site it is on that) and a 3000 Lb single line pull for 159.00. Naturally with a snatch block you can double the pull and let your reach be the snatch to anchor line. The shipping is usually very low as well, like under $10. Just pointing out that they are out there.
  21. I have tried to expain the handeling to people and they just can't wrap their minds around it that something that big can be that smooth or nimble. The handeling now FAR excedes stock. It is all fine and good to throw out theorys about tire tread block squirm etc. but the absolute truth is that it handles like a fair sports sedan. Off road handeling is even better. For example, today I was making a grocery run and took the BRAT for fun. There was a bumpkin that had gotten out of his truck at a intersection and was tying his shoes (I have no idea what that was about). So I just looked over at the muddy construction area to the right and didn't even bother to slow down, just rolled through at 30. When I weighed it at the gravel pit the fellow there let me have the run of the back slag lot. All I can do is offer a ride because that is the only thing that can explain it. Building the suspension as part of the whole makes a world of difference over just leaving it stock. Oddly enough, my only real handeling anomoly is toruqe steer, something it never really had stock! As for get up and go, it drops 2~3in. in the rear and rises as much in the front and it pulls hard all the way up to speed. I can turn the fronts over in 2wd with no problem. Braking will put you against the harnesses firmly. Again, I offer a ride to any takers, those who have ridden in it have been pretty shocked at how it performs.
  22. Blaster88 shot these on a road trip the other day, sort of neat to see how it looks to others. I can't go anywhere without someone walking over and asking me about the truck. My number one joy in those things is when I explain that it is NOT a Toyota drivetrain or some other swap and that the core suspension is 100% Subaru. I also get asked about the engine allot, again, the pride is in explaining it is 100% Subaru.
  23. It's tommorow. If you plan on going and want to meet up PM me, I will check PMs about midnight.
