  1. doubt its a modulator. are you seeing wierd smelling white smoke out of the exhaust or losing trans fluid? these are tell tale symptoms of a bad mod... its possible that the bad trans governer has done damage to the shaft that it rides on inside of the trans.
  2. as listed in the posts above, the newest engine is coming back out. i havent figured out what went wrong yet, nor did i decide to try to repair the current block or risk installing a used one i just picked up. the new one looks OK, but then again so did the one we just put in there... the cams from delta cam in today with the specs included. they dont seem to be too radical but they look like a big improvement nevertheless on paper, i guess thats another story all in its own once its finally finished. anything is an improvement over stock and im hoping that the gains are more pronounced in this car because of the other stuff that has been done as well. hoping to begin on monday...
  3. 2/4/04 - i have combined the other recent thread about the XT with this one...ill keep my info and progress with the car in this one rather than have a bunch of different ones flying around about the same car. the following was posted last month: well after 800 miles, shes about to quit already. a friend donated what we thought was a decent block but we were unsure of milage...he found it here at work and it looked basically brand new. it was solid and in shape aside from a little bit of cylinder wall rust. after the cylinders were honed and clean - the car went back together...for about 4 weeks. a few days ago i heard what i thought was a typical ea82T lifter tap, as the days went on the noise got progressively louder and more metallic. today i was over at the shop during lunch checking things out and its definatley a noise inside of the block, not the head or cam case. well at least now i can do the cams... ugh, thank god for EJ22s.
  4. no problem man, good luck and keep me posted. as for the trans Q...i seem to think that theyre all going to be able to interchange with eachother. i have eyed up what im pretty sure was a version 6 RA trans and it looked to me like the bolt pattern was the same as all EJ (legacy, forester, impreza) series bellhousing...looked like it used less bolts? i know there were quite a few versions of them with lockable center diffs and some were adjustable, so maybe keep an eye out for something like that? WRXs trannys are said to be made of glass as well as previous USDM impreza gear boxes, ive witnessed one implode personally on an RS - not pretty. if you score a front clip, youll get a trans too...JDMs were built to accomodate the increase in power, ours were not. try to contact scoobie steve on the board, or through email. he swapped v.6 type R drivetrain into an impreza L and would probably prvide good insight.
  5. EJ20s were all across the board as far as HP numbers go... heres an informative link about them and the different versions that were offered: http://www.importcarparts.co.uk/tech/model_codes.htm JDM EJ20 engines go way back into the first gen legacys then found thier way into the impreza line up when it was introduced in the early 90s. youre looking at 220-300hp depending upon which version you find...i think corky is selling a version 4 front clip, try to PM him about it.
  6. guys, the count was for cars. 25 cars and they give us a section - thats all we need to make a dent on the car scene. they have rows and rows of the most obscure cars ever built - and virtually no subarus except the 4 that i mentioned above and a brat that a guy was trying to sell for an unreasonable, astronomical amount. everyone that can sswing it this year should...theres plenty more to do than sit around and looking at cars all day, i.e. swap meets, an SCCA course, wierdos selling parts for cars youve never even heard of and so much more. i will post a thread in the OLD GEN forum in about 30 days to shake the leaves on this tree, this will be the east coast meet this year...at least the one i generally try to arrange. this place is about 2 hours from our normal pine barrens meeting place. stay tuned.
  7. cool man, im sure we'll be sharing stories of frustration... just waiting for the cams to arrive, and im planning on having the thing back together within the month.
  8. it was his SVX...i have a pic of me walking him by about 2 car lengths off the line there. that was with the old bored over engine i had in there, man that was a fun day. WJM, im going with a stock engine. nothing other than the cams will be aftermarket as far as internals are concerned.
  9. the date this year is 5/21-23/2004 heres a link if anybody was wondering what the hell were talking about: Carlisle Import/Kit car show and also a schedule of events: Carlisle Event schedule last year there was like 150 pontiac fieros, and 4 subarus. i think 2 of the subarus were cars that people drove there and parked and werent really on display - we can do alot better than that...ill bring the XT and ill see what else i can swing.
  10. i ordered part number 677-260 yesterday - $170 before you send the cores back. they say 10-15% increase from the feedback theyve gotten...nice power to dollar ratio...ill let you guys know once i get this POS back together.
  11. the rain out was still kind of fun...so was handing ben his rump roast on the track - just kidding dude. i ordered the cams yesterday so they should be arriving at my work with in a week, pretty excited. also ive found at least one block for replacement...
  12. should have gtech'd a 1/4 mile run, that would have been a riot.
  13. you have too much time on your hands country boy... what was done to the EJ25 to squeeze 200 out of it?
  14. even the XT6 clutch isnt enough for modded EA82Ts in my opinion, mine will sit and burn through hard launches and i still havent figured out how im going to get around that at the track. its alot better than the stock unit though...ive smoked brand new ones at mild boost levels before with out really trying.
  15. thanks man shooting to have everything done for it for the next east coast shootout up by your way later this year. kinda frustrating when you put blood, sweat and tears into something only to find out that its not going to work out...ah well, its only a car.
  16. dj72 your posts are officially starting to make my brain hurt, please stop BSing us to death and give up this subaru fantasy you have...nobody is going to think more of you until you post evidence of what youre claiming. its funny that the guys who are really into (or were) the ea82t game (myself, tex, WJM, steve) cant keep the engines from self destructing - but then this dude adds an oil cooler and an MBC to his car and it gains 200HP and burns tires at 70mph. something doesnt sound right...
  17. its the turbo found on the 91-94 legacy turbos... a decent upgrade from the stock EA82T unit
  18. so this will be engine number 5? in the XT...a little history and some interesting facts: 1st - previous owner boosted to 17PSI with no IC, perhaps scoobie steve could share inside info about this one. 2nd - over heated, cause unknown (see also scoobie steve) 3rd - the bored block, was .050 over and had stripped threads. didnt like having heads bolted to it, nor did it like coolant of any kind. 4th - looking like a bad wrist pin in cylinder 4, sounding like world war 3. in between 2 and 3, the car was sold for $50. an RX trans and rear diff was installed, the big engine was built, a VF11 added as well as an intercooler, custom made piping, BPV, boost controller and 5 lug swap. never garaged, yet has no body rust. has mind of its own.
  19. make 150 to the wheels with the stock turbo and ill send you a cyber pat on the back.
  20. well after 800 miles, shes about to quit already. a friend donated what we thought was a decent block but we were unsure of milage...he found it here at work and it looked basically brand new. it was solid and in shape aside from a little bit of cylinder wall rust. after the cylinders were honed and clean - the car went back together...for about 4 weeks. a few days ago i heard what i thought was a typical ea82T lifter tap, as the days went on the noise got progressively louder and more metallic. today i was over at the shop during lunch checking things out and its definatley a noise inside of the block, not the head or cam case. well at least now i can do the cams... ugh, thank god for EJ22s.
  21. nope, dont recall hearing of him...is he on iclub? i dont think anyone can make over 150whp with the stock turbo, theres just no way unless im missing something.
  22. we still have yet to see any real, honest proof of what hes claiming. this thread was started way back...id think you could come up with some cold, hard evidence by now.
