  1. youre crazy. and youve obviously never driven an STi before. making an RX faster than an STi is possible but not with an EA powerplant, and certainly not in the twisties. oh and before i forget...why?? youre boosting an ea82T to manic levels when they barely take kindly to anything over 12psi, for what reason? also think of the financial dilemma. SOA had all the money in the world to sink into an est. 300hp rally RX in the eighties and couldnt keep the thing from going to hell... drive any turbo impreza and youll forget all about wanting to boost the hell out of a motor that eats HG's at 7psi.
  2. its a boost leak. manny, pull the intercooler off and check the hose that connects the turbo to the bottom pipe of the intercooler. might be a good time to replace the hoses for the bypass valve and mass air flow meter pipe as well...all of this might cost you $20 at home depot.
  3. wow. i just read all this...is this the "i have no idea what im talking about but feel the need to comment on everything" thread? its a shame the justy gets such a bad rap here, every subaru guy i know holds a higher regard for them then the EA82 cars, its pretty sad to see all the negative and uneducated comments about them. justys were great cars...how can you hate something that is built like a tank, gets 35mpg, doesnt rust like the ****box loyales, is a blast to drive, simple to work on and is relatively quick? the 4wd's were also the best subarus for snowy weather as well...maybe all of the experts should own one before being so quick to comment on them?
  4. keep it alive, its a great car. i sold it to tony by the way...
  5. i dont know if this has been posted yet or not, a search yeilded nothing. Subdriven apparently took pictures of our Carlilse group and wrote an article about the annual show... heres a link: http://www.subdriven.com/artman/publish/article_183.shtml
  6. bigger is better in this case. the stock unit is better suited for a paper weight - the purists can keep them. the easiest way to do is to go all out and find an intercooler, a WRX down pipe and turbo back exhaust. youll spend maybe $200 on all of this, goto www.nasioc.com - guys sell stock exhaust systems for $50. the VF11 will bolt to your exisisting uppipe, then from there will go to the WRX downpipe. you will have to grind a bolt hole out on the turbo but that will take 5 minutes. yes you will have lag. but the gains will outweigh that when its all said and done.
  7. VF11's are kind of hard to find... try doing a google for "legacy BBS" - thats the legacy message board equivalent to what weve got here. alot of those guys are replacing the VF11 on the Legacy T's with the Mitsu 16G from the version 3 or 4 STi's. youll find them for about $60... good luck.
  8. ill be rolling in about 8am too...ill try to lay off the alcohol tonite. see you guys tomorrow.
  9. hey scott... i got your message this weekend. i tried calling you yesterday and today but i didnt get an answer at the 439-XXXX number. is there a better time i can reach you? let me know and ill give you a ring so we can go over some stuff...i should be around tonite if you are. also, im going to bring at least a case of beer and some subaru stuff to hand out to those in our group. anything i can get my hands on in time will be coming with me...ill try to bring some parts to sell as well.
  10. cougar... its crazy to say this but 13mpg is actually to be expected with how much work was done to the XT. cams, bigger turbo, timing, etc. leads to a 225mi range for a full tank, so maybe 15 mpg. public enemy number one is probably the modified MAF that enrichens the air fuel mixture. the car runs very rich at idle and light throttle, i even get the pulsing rev idle after a 13psi blast when i come to a stop. im thinking the car could use a new rad, and i should probably have the fan going full time as well... we shall see after this heat wave breaks. not in any real danger just yet.
  11. hey guys, so its been in the upper 80s - low 90's recently in the philly area. sitting in traffic the mechanical guage shows a hair over 200 - 210 when the car sits and bakes in the sun...what is normal under these circumstances? the digi dash gauge sits at 1/2 way (dd - i know, i know) when the mechanical guage is in sitting in this range. how hot are your cars getting keep in mind i dont have any A/C components left in the car and i have an XT6 (3 stage) thermostat in it...what can i do to keep thins thing cooler? for those who dont know, this Q is for my modded 86 XT. also the thing has been sitting because $2.27 p/gal for premium is stupid, and this POS only gets 13mpg.
  12. scott, i just read your PM. ill do my best to get the flag in the mail, so this way you can put it on the brat...think itll arrive in Va in time?
  13. amen. its been 90 degree here the past few days and im totally afraid to even think about driving the XT anywhere...i have a zillion things i need to do to it this weekend also. scott (subarubrat)...sorry about the flag man. my life has been hectic and i havent had much time to even check this thread. ill give it to you at carlilse, its yours.
  14. allow me to add what i know and have heard...most of it from the horses mouth. i wont post anything i know not to be true. "Subaru" was never really a brand or title until it was brought to America. Malcolm Bricklin visited Japan in the mid to late 60's and entertained the idea of importing these bizzarre micro cars into the USA via the west coast. He tapped one Mr. Harvey Lamm, and they found thier investors and SOA was born with offices based in Philadelphia. Bricklin and Lamm forged foward until the early 70's when Bricklin got a genius idea and struck out on his own to start his own unique brand of cars as if Subaru wasn't odd enough for the USA's taste. Some say that Subaru was struggling around this time and others say that Bricklin simply wanted to do his own thing. If the latter is true, then he did do his own thing - but it wasn't successful, do a google search of his last name to find out why. Lamm was the man at SOA throughout the 1970's and 1980's. They were a pubicly traded company in the US and actually had an ad campaign during this time which said "Subaru, an American company". Their offices found thier way into So. Jersey and they are still based there today. In 1986, Fuji bought up the remaining stock, Lamm sold his shares and "ownership" was sent back to Japan. Subaru is now wholly-owned by Fuji Heavy Industries and operates in the US through the headquarters in NJ, with regional offices in different states across the US. I heard Harvey Lamm founded CarFax, but I'm not sure if this is true. He still lives in the area. Malcolm Bricklin is still doing his own thing, i read someplace that he is trying to bring some version of the Yugo back to the US in 2005.
  15. wild. let me be the first to say that it looks good man, great job. my XT has the same IC installed, you can check the pics out thru the link in my profile. keep up the good work.
  16. robbie, here are some links thatll better assist you with that motor than this one. www.clubwrx.net www.nasioc.com www.i-club.com
  17. hey guys, sorry i havent posted in a bit about this...life intervenes sometimes. anyway, i plan on leaving early saturday morning to make it up there...might stay into sunday too, we'll have to see. if anybody wants to get a convoy together from the philadelphia area, drop me a line at dennisex24@hotmail.com.
  18. the td05-16g is no joke, like legacyT says, theyre capable of 350hp assuming you mod to accomdate it (i.e. fuel, intercooler and ignition). if you go to the legacy turbo BBS forums, youll find quite a few threads about it...
  19. do you have cams in said vehicle? only have about 10-12ins of vacuum in my XT at idle
  20. my 02 is in the WRX downpipe and im having no issues with it... fuel consumption still sucks, as of late im seeing about 13.5mpg around the city.
  21. 130hp-160whp with cams and exhaust can be had, ill believe that, but what happened to 283hp at the wheels? not to mention how did you upgrade the MAF and knock sensor system? you wont make that kind of power without modifying this somehow. im making about 200-210hp (14.6 and 14.7 gtech'd 1/4mi with somebody else in the car) to the crank with a bigger turbo, cams, IC and about a zillion and one other things... i wish i knew your secret...
  22. thanks for bumping this... can we see some numbers now? a dyno graph would be nice, and not one from a small block chevy.
