I've got a 1999 Subaru Forester with bad catalytic converters(according to CEL scan and my mechanic). The last time i had some exhaust work done for exhaust leakage a muffler shop cut one of the pipe-to-cat.convert rusted flanges and welded. My mechanic can't weld so i go to muffler shop. They want $750 to install new cat. converter. They won't consider me buying the part, at way less, and them doing the work. I get the idea that muffler shops won't do that. Any suggestions on who I might get to do that and what about eliminating the flange on the other end with a weld? That would mean removing flanges on the cat. converter?.Should i just bite the bullet and get the work done?? I hope this makes sense. Thanks
Custom Fabricated 88 Subaru RX Bumpers
D3F0 posted a topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...Hey so today I made a cool front bumper for my Subaru RX. Its not done yet still going to build in a custom two piece skid plate into it. All I did to make this was cut the bumper support out until the only thing left was the support. Welding some steel tubing into it untill it started to take shape. I am pleased with how it came out i just need some WRC looking lights to complete the look I am going for. The rear bumper is 4x2 steel frame rail that I stacked onto each other and simply bolted them up to the stock location of the rear bumper support so I can switch back easily. Stock Bumper support cut in half already. Then removed some more of it Welded the first 1x1 steel bar into the beast Welded an interesting shape and stuck with it Slowly started adding more metal Hood closed and fender just hanging on Now moving onto the back I built a custom trunk and frame into the car here it is without the bumper. Looks intense already. Caged intense trunk also another view Custom rear bumper Drilling holes Don't mind the welds =) flux core wire no gas in the winter usually with snow coming in haha Also some trunk pics other side
Welder needing projects
djellum posted a topic in Products for your SubaruHello, Im a certified welder that is attempting to start a business. Right now I have just been working off of craigslist but figured I would shamelessly plug here as well. Right now I just charge $25 an hour, and a flat $25 fee to drive to you if needed (within a reasonable distance). I can also work on a per job basis if it makes more sense that way. I have also helped teach some people how to weld (I worked at the local community college welding shop for a while after graduation) Currently just steel, but going to be getting a spool gun soon to do aluminum. Let me know what projects you may have, ill even show up to your house with all my equipment in a Subaru. David

NickNakorn posted a topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...Part Three of my Left-hand rear wheel-arch repair is now up at: http://www.nagara.co.uk/leftarch3.htm and there's a new pic on the bump-stop bracket page at: http://www.nagara.co.uk/Making%20a%20Bump.htm and, as usual the whole story menu is at: http://www.nagara.co.uk/carhome.htm This week I'll be doing all sorts of minor jobs to get the car ready for it's annual MOT test and hopefully I'll have the Honda in the workshop before the end of the month. After that, it'll be my 'secret' project - a prototype coupe based on a much-loved classic.
