I've got an idea I want to investigate, but was wondering if anyone had any experience removing the bumper skin from the early EA82 front or rear bumpers. There are brackets bolted in the corners little clips on the skin that match up to cutouts on the bumper frame, but I would need 12 arms to compress all the clips at once. My only EA82 FSM is for the 1987 model year, so not helpful on the early bumpers. Thanks!
My flatbed Toyota is missing an engine. I was considering a used later model 40,000 mile Toyota V6 from Japan at a cost of $1000 plus $400 for wiring adapters for California smog. Bill Hinchers thread on the W series transmission adapter gave me hope that I can use a boxer engine. I would move the wiring to the pickup cab to pass California smog. The following is my wishful thinking. I have a good boxer engine from my totaled 2000 Forester. The W series adapter will fit my flatbed 1989 Toyota (former Uhaul) truck in the pic. When I look at the three foot wide boxer engine in my Forester and compare it to my 2 foot Toyota frame rails I can't see how to get the clearance needed to install it. What if I lift the cab a couple inches, build a transmission doghouse, move the engine/transmission mounts up and forward so the left rear cylinder will clear the IFS mounts & steering shaft, ... Maybe rotate the engine/trans a few degrees... Seems wild. Is there a simpler way? I Googled images in vain to see if anyone has a boxer engine in a Toyota pickup. Anyone care to share a list of car or truck models that have benefited from the Toyota W series adapters? Thanks to all for a great forum.
Hey so today I made a cool front bumper for my Subaru RX. Its not done yet still going to build in a custom two piece skid plate into it. All I did to make this was cut the bumper support out until the only thing left was the support. Welding some steel tubing into it untill it started to take shape. I am pleased with how it came out i just need some WRC looking lights to complete the look I am going for. The rear bumper is 4x2 steel frame rail that I stacked onto each other and simply bolted them up to the stock location of the rear bumper support so I can switch back easily. Stock Bumper support cut in half already. Then removed some more of it Welded the first 1x1 steel bar into the beast Welded an interesting shape and stuck with it Slowly started adding more metal Hood closed and fender just hanging on Now moving onto the back I built a custom trunk and frame into the car here it is without the bumper. Looks intense already. Caged intense trunk also another view Custom rear bumper Drilling holes Don't mind the welds =) flux core wire no gas in the winter usually with snow coming in haha Also some trunk pics other side
Hello, I recently bought a 1999 Wagon Sport, which over the last 6 months has needed the usual basic replacements to combat age. I had to replace the original rusted subframe to pass MOT, and it has caused more problems than it has solved. If anyone is able to help me find the root cause of the problem, I would be forever grateful. So, sourcing replacement parts, I took the sub-frame with arms, shafts, diff and shocks from a 1994 WRX, replaced the diff with my original to match ratios, and decided to use my original shocks. The idea was I would end up my original diff and shocks, and the rest would be donor parts to change the existing drum brakes to rear discs and solve the rusty sub-frame issue. Everything seemed to line up and fit into place nicely, no real issues after fitting new flexible brake hoses and rerouting handbrake and abs sensor cables. The issue came once the car was lowered back down onto 4 wheels. Something is causing the rear shocks to rub against the inner arch and against the wheels, but I don't know exactly what is causing it. Comparing the two sub-frames, the seem identical. I wandered if the shock mountings on the back of the 94 disk housing are different to the back of the drum housing on a 99? I've compared the shocks that came attached the to new frame, the are shorter than mine, and have a wider spacing between mounting bolts. Please help!
