1990 Subaru GL Turbo 2WD ? Exists?

Featured Replies

I was curious if this car existed. theres one in craigslist.. but i didnt think that they made a 1990 GL wagon with a turbo, and only have it 2WD.

i very well could be wrong :)

thanks!

It would be a GL-10 not a GL but yes they did exist. Or when did they change over to the Loyale name? My EA82 knowledge is somewhat lacking.

If it's a 90 then it would be a Loyale not a GL. They did make the turbo Loyale's in '90 only so it's possible that it exists and the owner is confused.

i wonder what this dude has... i cant get a straight answer out of him

Yeah if its a 90' then its a loyale and they did come turbo, the owner might be confused cuz it changed the name from gl to loyale in 1990.

What are the odds the owner bought a imported GL from Australia or the U.K that another owner imported? Since both countrys used the "GL" name till '94 (The last of the EA82s) And yes, even a GL imported could have left hand drive (I've seen a few GLs on the Aussie board that were still LHD) So this could be a possability aswell. :)

If it came from anywhere but the US, it would probably say "Leone" on it somewhere. AUS got the Legacy in '89 and I don't think they were making the EA82 body cars alongside them over there. I could be wrong about that. The Brumby's were made till '94 in some places.

The Leone's were mainly in Japan, the GL was more popular in AUS (aka L-series) and from what I've seen they were still made till '94 along with the Brumbys.

But I guess the likelyhood of anyone importing one to the U.S would be rare when you can just get a Loyale or a late 80s GL here.

It would help if the owner would give you a picture since he seems unsure.

-Tom :)

The Gl's even in the states were Considered Leone's by Subaru (I was calling SOA about some Warranty work that had not been done to my car.. (my 81 wagon,) and the guy was like your seriously calling me about an '81 Leone?

They were, yes. But only internally. They were not marketed as such. In other countries the EA82 body was also known as a Leone. I have a picture around somewhere of an '85 EA82 with "Leone" on the side trim instead of "Subaru".

Yes, I've seen many - many pictures of EA82 Leones.

Just search for Subaru Leone on google and you'll see them, some of the Leone's were FT4WD

What I meant was that I have a picture that I personally took of some side trim on an '85 GL-10 that says "Leone", and it was here in Oregon. Some kind of fluke I suppose. The other side of the car said Subaru so maybe it was a replacement or a screw-up at the factory. I really don't know.

GD

Oh ok :)

Well the point is, the Leone was a model - not just a nickname people called it e.g (L-Series)

Thats all I was trying to clear up :)
