Hi, i have a Subaru Leone STW EA82 1800 year 1989. the steering rack is leaking at the rack ends and the seal at the steering. i need a new one and cant seem to find any in Kenya. i was wondering is there is any new model that i be able to fit into my vehicle. i have posted a picture of the vehicle i have and here is still the picture. mine is a power steering.

I was looking into this as I wanted to install a quick ratio Q-rack in my loyale.

 

an EJ-series subaru steering rack will fit, but some modifications will need to be made to clear the fluid lines, and make sure the steering shaft comes out at the correct angle.

 

also, EJ cars have a wider track than Ea82s. so the inner tie rods are a bit longer. you may want to swap your EA82 rods on there.

i use EJ rack mounts on older subarus (EA82) - so the mounts are the same and they look nearly identical.

 

swap inner and outer EA82 tie rods onto it and i bet you're really close.

 

like chux said the only possible issues are with the fluid lines and output angle of the rack input shaft (connected to steering wheel). seems like that should be workable since the fluid lines are just lines and the input side has a ujoint so you have some flex there.

 

be nice to measure/size one up. but if you can fab and play with some metal and stuff you should be fine.

 

might be easier to just take the rack out and try to replace those end seals or have a machine shop do it? that's generally not recommended but in a situation like yours i have no clue what your options are as far as parts go.

thanks guys for your great suggestions and ideas. i was told by one of my mechanics that i can use one from a subaru impreza with alittle modifications. i will try and see if there are any other options i can try.

His car is RH drive. Don't think any US LH-drive rack will work. Maybe someone in Australia can find one.
