October 31, 200916 yr well first off im a total noob when it comes to wiring and all that stuff. anyway heres my prob. (94 legacy) when i would turn on my car (i have my lights on anyway) the passenger side low beam would come on but the driver side wouldnt. now i can switch to highbeams and they always work. i would just get out of the car walk to the front and just flick the head light and it would come back on. i suspected a corroded connection on the back of the light so a friend of mine checked it out. said there was no corrosion on it and now it wont come on at all. im thinking it could be a bad wire, bad ground, or maybe its something in the low beam filiment in the bulb and he finished knocking off the filament when he checked for corrosion. im not really sure. where exactly should i start at to fix my problem? would love to get this fixed since i dont like getting pulled over. already did once so ive been staying off main roads and taking some hardcore back roads. like 4 wheeling trails sometimes lol. its fun except when it foggier than hell and i gotta use my highbeams. and on a side note having nothing at all to do with this post- dont know if its a good idea or not but i just cut the muffler off and piped it. has one hell of a growl now and i like it!
October 31, 200916 yr As far as your headlight concern..Ive run into this multiple times on Subarus where the terminals back away from the prongs on the headlight bulb...what I usually do is buy a pigtail from NAPA and either solder it or butt connect it into the existing harness, along with this i always throw in a new bulb...Of course if you decide to do this check for corrosion in the wires when you cut them...I'm not saying this will fix your problem but everyone Ive encountered it fixed them... I cut off the muffler on my 96 Legacy as well and welded a straight pipe in..I love it also... Edited November 1, 200916 yr by EVOthis
November 1, 200916 yr Likely the bulb filiment has broken. Replace the bulb before cutting wires.I'm with John on this, definitely replace the bulb first; that's most likely your problem.
November 2, 200916 yr replace the bulb, and sometimes doubt your friend. Soobys are known for getting loose connections on the low beam terminal which can cause this (with age). Eventually the plug will melt. I have seen this a few times. the easy repair is getting one from a junkward and soldering in the pigtail. nipper
