June 28, 201015 yr When turning one direction, I have this annoying grinding sound coming from my driver side front brakes/suspension. It sounds like metal on metal, or like my brakes are rubbing, or something. But when I take it apart and look around, I can't figure out what it is. It doesn't seem to be affecting anything, but I can't stand the annoying sound. Oh, and the car is a 94 loyale
June 28, 201015 yr broken front brake hardware clips, at least that is what was making noise on mine.
June 29, 201015 yr Might want to look into a CV joint. Mine does the same thing. If it is you will want to get it fixed ASAP. Metal on metal is bad and will only get worse.
July 1, 201015 yr could even be something like the parking brake cable binding and its effectively applying the (front) parking brake when you turn. Does it happen in either direction or only one??
July 2, 201015 yr +1 on checking the wheel bearing. I know mine are due for replacement and and everytime I turn the rotor rubs the shield. Guess I should just go bend the shield out a bit until I come up with bearing $$$. Jack up the car, grab the tire top and bottom and see if you can wiggle it. there with be a definite small *clunk clunk* back and forth. Now, slop could be a ball joint as well so inspect good. Also note if there is any growling when going down the freeway. Mine just started that up last time I drove it. I'd then start with checking the torque of the axle nut. I'm not sure on the Loyale, but on mine (EA81), the bearings are not adjustable. They are sloppy or they are not. My axle nuts are properly torqued and still the bearings are loose. So in my case I just need new ones. Your results may vary.
October 25, 201015 yr Author It was my axle. But the car has been parked until next summer, so it's not going to bother me much now.
