My Brothers 97 Impreza OBS has the flashing AT Temp Light, 16 times and torque bind. When he put the FWD fuse in, the FWD light did not come on.

 

This tells me it's the C-Duty solinoid. If you are in SE WI and have changed one of these before, you help would be appreciated.

 

I've changed them and they are not that hard, but if it's your first time it can be difficult. A heated shop is available for the work.

Did he confirm the TB didn't change w/the FWD fuse in (in case the light is burnt out)?

 

Just would want to make sure it's the Duty-C and not the clutches....although it has to be opened up either way.

we're over in SE WI, i havent dug into the duty C solenoid at all on these, but i think its right up inside the trans fluid pan. IE. remove fluid, remove trans fluid pan, remove and replace solenoid?

 

where you located?

Not inside the pan.

You have to drop the exhaust and the drive shaft out and then take the rear housing off to get to the solenoid and the clutches.

just did this on my outback sport.

Not any where close to you though, sorry.

You can rent a bay there and even pay one of the mechanics to help. I worked at this garage (but in school during the year). It's not too far from SW Wisconsin and you can do the job in one night. I started at 11pm and finished at 6am when replacing my Duty C Solenoid.

He's in Watertown, the heated shop is in Sullivan, WI just off I-94 west of Milwaukee.

 

I'm sure he could do it, I just know from doing this in the past it's much easier the second or third time.
