March 2, 200422 yr Hi everyone I have replaced the oil filler tube o ring, valve cover gaskets and rear cam cover plate o rings. The 93 impreza awd still leaks oil around the cross member area and drip on the exhaust where left and right pipe joint. Smoke will be coming out of the hood and it smell horrible! Can anyone let me know any other gaskets/o ring need to be replaced? 93 impreza auto awd with 113,xxx miles Thanks a lot!!!
March 2, 200422 yr Author Thanks for the reply. Is it easier to remove engine OR transmission to get to the plate? Any advice on how to do this job? Thanks again!!!
March 2, 200422 yr Depends on the equiptment and experiance your have. I would probably pull the transmission. But it may be easier to pull the engine, just may take longer. Not sure when they went from the aluminium plate to the plastic one, but I think you probably have a plastic one. If so you need to get a new one from the dealer. If you have a manual transmission and are still on the original clutch put a new clutch in while it is apart. Replace the rear main seal for good measure while you are in there also.
March 3, 200422 yr I used the Gold Eagle oil stop leak when mine started leaking. It had around 100,000 miles on it at that time it nows has 277,000 and still not leaking. (please be aware many here will not recommend using any of these products.)
March 16, 200422 yr its a suby, get used to oil leaks, but the rear maiun seal leaks like a busted dam. the crank and cam seals go a lot. they are just oily cars. but other than that, they are great.
March 16, 200422 yr oil seal...had it done...dripped a bit. cam seal...had it done...i'd lose 3 quarts of oil at every stop and it smoked and smelled really bad. they were like $800 each...shoulda had them both done at the same time.
March 16, 200422 yr On my 90 Loyale there were these rubber boots or gaskets that fit around the bolts holding the valve cover in place. Leaked like hell and dripped and found their way back to the lowest point (gravity is so predictable). First aftermarket set leaked and so I switched to SOA and voila the leak was gone. If'n you got that type of bolt through design, check for leaks around the bolts.
