Gas Saver Chips/Modification

Featured Replies

Does anyone have any good ideas or suggestions on the topic of adding a fuel saver chip or modifying anything on a 1998 Subaru Outback Impreza 2.2L??

Thanks for your thoughts

Don't waste your money, those are marketing gimmicks. You would be better off giving your engine a tuneup that includes a new air filter, plugs and wires, PCV valve, etc.

keep your foot off the gas a little. The EJ22 is pretty good on gas, I get about 26-28 with my legacy. I think the new FB20 is going to be a hit among economy conscious people.

I changed my old gear oil and got a nearly 3 mpg boost in mileage. No change in driving style, just clean gear oil. I wonder what's going to happen when I get around to doing the transmission fluid?

That must have been some nasty gear oil.

I didn't think it looked that nasty, but apparently, it was!

Moderate gas pedal allowing the transmission to upshift quickly, otherwise realise it is an AWD car and will have good to rotten around town mpg depending on how many stop signs there are..... like here

Buy a Scangauge 2, set it to read instant MPG and velcro it to the dash where it's easy to see. Then use that to modify your driving style to maximize your fuel economy.

Or, install a vacuum gauge and keep the needle between 10" hg and 20" as much as you can.

I'm getting 25mpg in the city right now which is about as good as it gets for the 98 outbacck impreza. I was just wondering if there was anything that I could do besides personal adjustment.

Thanks for all the replys!

Thats great, i get 19 - 21. I think we have more stop signs per square mile then a stopsign factory.
