  1. Now that the summer months have been coming I have noticed that my 87 subaru GL hatch has been almost always heating up to a hair below the red mark on the temp gauge. The strange thing is it doesn't ever blow its cap compared to my other wagon which would if it even got near 3/4 to red. It has plenty of coolant and I have the fan wired up to the ignition so its getting plenty of cooling to it. You think its possible the temp gauge is just inaccurate?
  2. Well as far as the hitachi goes for reliability its not bad at all. Its just that a weber will increase your horse power by at least 20 (some have said upwards of 40.) One drawback though is that your going to see about 2-3 mpg less with a weber. If the extra power you get is worth 2-3 mpg then go for it. If not stick to the hitachi.
  3. If you really have a ton of time and money at your disposal you could do what some have done and install a divorced transfer case and then mount on a set of axels. But as far as running 31s on a stock wagon you could do it but its going to lack torque and is arguably less offroad capable than one with smaller tires because of this. I am running 31s on my subaru dune buggy which struggles with torque anyways but being that it only weighs around 900 lbs it gets by ok.
  4. My ea81 has no exhaust and when you rev that to around 6 grand it wakes up the whole neighborhood. Not many things that sound better than a high revved boxer rumble.
  5. Welcome aboard, ive been to that area a couple times. Pretty nice little town though i barely get to see it as it seems whenever i pass through in the morning its always fogged over.
  6. Hey man how have you been doing? I read below how you lost your living space and everything. If you ever need to come by to get on the phone or computer for a while or otherwise need any other help you know where to find me.

    thanks Jeremy

  7. I run 31s on my buggy and it gets by alright though it does only weigh around 900 lbs. But with a frankmotor you should have absolutely no problem pushing 31s. Bout the main thing id worry about is how well the DR 5 speed would handle that kind of torque buts thats a different subject.
  8. Ok cool, i wouldnt mind getting me an old suby sooner or later. Right now I have a dune buggy made out of an 84 subaru wagon so that is pretty cool.

  9. Dude that happened to me on my old wagon as well only i was going like 20 and it took out the oil gauge screw.
  10. Hello, welcome to USMB. If you could post some pics of that wagon that would be awesome. You dont see too many of those old wagons on the the road these days. I used to have one like yours only it was an 81 so different body style.

    thanks Jeremy

  11. Well in theory just about any internal combustion engine could have a turbo but i dont think it would be particularly easy to do on this model. If you want more power i suppose you could do a delta cam but even that isa lot of money and work for a motor that although is good and reliable honestly doesnt make much hp very easily. Also if you did want to do it first things first you would need to do a fuel injection swap. In my opinion (and many other forum members as well) the best increase in power for the cheapest price wouldbe todo an ej22 swap. the ej22 has no problem making 140 horpsepower bone stock and does it reliably as well. You can do some mods on the EJ like delta cams and a good exhaust and make even more. And if you want to make your wagon more offroad capable id say one thing you could do that fairly easy and cheap is to drop in a 4 speed dual range (5 speed if it will fit easy one this model) so you can have more torque to climb hills.
  12. It would vary a lot depending on who wants to buy it. Im not even 100% if such a thing actually exists but i suppose JDM or a similar company might be able to help you.
  13. Well i sold my mazda for $500. I know you probly would want any really nice suby you see for an amazing price but i was gonna ask if you happen to see any 4wd subaru for sale in the $500 range let me know. I miss having a subaru car LOL.

  14. I would love an AMC eagle. Kinda a lot like a subaru on steroids.
  15. Sounds like the symptoms of a fuel filter. Start with that which is a the easiest and that dont work try different things.
  16. With my luck if id probly get drunk and wake up with a mitsubishi emblem on my forehead
  17. I also still call even the new ones hilux, i like the names they have in Aussie thus brumby420.
  18. http://www.free-ebooks.net/files/pdf/676SA.pdf Here is that sabot assassin article i was telling you about. A friend of mine on a gun forum wrote it. Let me know what you think.
  19. well i call it a buggy but it is basically a subaru wagon/brat. It has an ea81 with a 4 speed so its fwd when not in 4wd. Yeah its true a frankenmotor would do nothing but spin the tires on this thing, it only weighs like 1,000 lbs. Im planning on going EJ once i get the funds and of course ill have to use a dual range 5 speed cause ive managed to destroy 4 speeds with just stock power, i can only imagine what doubling the power would do. I now need to do some measuring to determine whether an EJ will even fit in there without modifying the frame
  20. From what everyones been saying this motor must really smoke the tires in a light vehicle. Im getting some money fairly soon here and am putting into consideration swapping an ej into my buggy. it currently has an ea81 with a 4 speed and i know one thing is for certain it would need at the very least a 5 speed dual range though it might be wiser to just go to a new generation transmission. On thing that differs though is with this swap i would be mainly using it for offroad so i would likely be running 31 inch tires so i think it wouldnt have a much of an issue burning up tires. i dont suppose id do a frankenmotor swap unless i could find one at the junkyard but i know that one of those in my 1,000 lbs buggy would be absolutely neck breaking speed. For now though id like to see about putting an ej in the buggy.
  21. So im getting prety close to getting a title for the mazda and selling it and one idea came into my head on what i could spend it on.... an ej22. You think it would be a worth while investment to get on of those to drop into the buggy? One thing i need to figure out is if it would need the frame modified to fit in there because by the looks of it that ea81 motor is already fairly tight in there. Im not really 100% sure if im going to go this route or not but i figure the buggy would be nice with a little more power. Do you think this could be done withing a budget of around $600?
